:D Opps, ouch. A Machado gelato?

The Pirates hit so many home runs off the Mets they ran out of fireworks

You can probably tell from the score that the Pittsburgh Pirates' 14-2 win over the New York Mets was a slaughter. You could also probably tell from the amount of fireworks still at PNC Park after the game.

That amount would be zero. Because the Pirates used them all to celebrate hitting a franchise record-tying seven homers.

The Pirates announced the shortage during the bottom of the eighth inning, once they had scored 14 unanswered runs after the Mets took an early 2-0 lead ...

What happened to the 34-38 .472 8.5GB Cubs? Didn't they start strong? :(

Their starting pitching has actually been very good.

They're snakebites with injuries,

Their bullpen absolutely sucks, it's cost them at least eight games.

They started strong on offense, looked like a continuation from last year.

Then......all the motherfuckers forgot how to hit. It's painful.

Wind was screaming out at Wrigley today....they barely scratched out a run. Three game series with the Cardinals, six runs total. :puke-left:
Seriously?
Pitcher suffers broken hand after punching dugout

Image
Colten Brewer was replaced after playing less than a single inning

... Brewer entered Saturday's game with the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning, in relief of starter Kyle Hendricks, with the Angels leading 2-0.

But Brewer was replaced himself before the end of the inning, with the Angels having jumped to a 5-0 lead before going on to win 7-0.

The 31-year-old got just two outs and was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits, two walks and a hit batter.

The right-handed pitcher then struck the dugout with his left hand and the Cubs have now placed him on the 60-day injured list....
Smart.

The immaculate inning was the 114th in MLB history, making the feat more rare than a no-hitter or a cycle, and the second in White Sox history. The only other Chicago pitcher to throw an immaculate inning was the immaculately named Sloppy Thurston on Aug. 22, 1923.

Orioles take over 1st place in AL East, set franchise record for homers in a month
Baltimore is the third MLB team to hit 60 home runs in a calendar month
The Baltimore Orioles took over first place in the American League East with a 6–5 win over the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
Grand slam above.
While that was probably the most important headline coming out of Camden Yards, the Orioles also set some franchise slugging history in the victory.

Anthony Santander's second-inning home run off Michael Lorenzen was Baltimore's 59th home run in June, which set a team record for most homers in a calendar month. With his 13th homer this month, Santander also set an individual franchise mark for most home runs in June.

... With a home run on Sunday, they can tie the 2023 Atlanta Braves, who hit 61 last June. And, of course, with two homers, the O's can hit the second-most ever in a single month....

The Orioles' previous record of 58 home runs in a month was set by the 1987 club during the month of May....

From time to time I may have wondered why everybody I ever met from Chicago was a Cubs fan. I'm not sure I've ever met a White Sox fan that I know of, and, while Cubbie banners are fairly common to see when traveling, I don't know that I've ever seen one for the White Sox. Maybe this is one of the reasons why:

"The White Sox, now 27-87 on the year, are one of seven teams in modern Major League Baseball history to have lost 20 or more games in a row. They're the first team to endure such a futile run since the 1988 Baltimore Orioles, and they're three more losses from tying the longest losing streak of all-time."

Have they always been so awful?

This is historic awful, for anyone. They're a Jerry Reinsdorf mismanaged team (like the Bulls in every year they didn't have Michael Jordan), mostly middling, occasionally successful. One unexciting world series in 2005 over the then National League Astros in over 40 years of ownership plus a dog of a stadium in 1992 that he's already trying to abandon.

The Sox were less of a second class citizen before wgn superstation and Harry Caray.
