Veteran Day

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Billy's right; Vietnam was lost by everyone except the Vietnamese. One of my good friends, a Vietnam vet, shot himself in the head on his daughters birthday. This was more than ten years after the war. Who killed him?

lotta blame to go around over that war. it was very close to me in many ways, I reckon that's why hearing a little punk like tag spewing those same old lies about that war that are being used to get more kids killed in this war gets me going -

that said, my vote for who caused the death of your friend goes to Ike for starting the damn thing, mccarthy for the whole red scare bs, johnson for escalating it and kissinger for endlessly promoting it

I also applaud the thousands and thousands who went to canada and protested and resisted the war in many ways, they and the exposure of that piece of shit lt. calley got us out of that war and saved many more thousands

they did start it, but they lost and all was good, free and fair election planned and everything

until Ike saw the polls and his guy - the brutal ruthless dictator - was behind 85% to 15%

then we started it over - all by ourselves

Well, ok, but let's give Kennedy and McNamara an honorable mention. Didn't McNamara end up killing himself, too? Seems like I remember that's how it went; appropriate. it's rare to see any of our leaders exhibit any sense of honor like the Japanese would do.

Vietnam was a gas, gas, gas. The first time that the modern American imperialistas
lost in their bullying efforts. Afghanistan ain't looking too good either.

By this time, the infamous Domino theory was in full bloom; the Reds were already in Cuba and had been run off, were making inroads in Latin America, the Red menace paranoia was driving policy, and off we go, jettisoning money and favors to the chosen all the way in.

Thanks; I for some reason thought he'd killed himself....maybe wishful thinking.

Cuba?
We've not technically lost yet; there's still the embargo, and the (loosening) travel ban. And there's always the thorn in the eye of the regime...Guantanamo.

I've wondered if relations ever normalize if there will be any compensation for property that was nationalized, either to corporate or private Americans....or will it just be bananas and cigars?

cuba and viet nam could have been recognized, but for some reason we seem too insecure with our capitalism to have relations with thoses who choose other methods

seems to me our positive influence on their economy is the quickest and surest way to defeat communism

the only capitalism either country knew was the heavy handed rule by the rich and their exploitation of the poor. castro was an improvement over puppet batista

kennedy blew it when he refused to engage in talks offered by che
ike blew it when he refused to accept offers by ho

Give the Bay of Pigs fiasco half a point, since it was far short of the all out, give it the old
college try that was Vietnam. Yeah, how's that embargo thing working out? It'll have the
Castro brothers on the run any day now.

I've never been to Cuba, but I have relatives and co-workers who have taken vacations there. I do have my name in a draw to win a vacation there.

Are there any lefties on this forum that have any Vietnam skin in the game?

If not? STFU!!!

You appear to be the expert on being spit on. Shall we take a poll on whether it has anything to do with Vietnam?

With a $900 million net worth at the expense of his people, Fidel is a real humanitarian.

Wanted to end it but rstrong just keeps on. You know, the festering sore of Canada and self proclaimed expert of the US. ESAD and keep your counsel to those who prefer the safety of the bench since you and your country know that position better then any country in the western hemisphere.

If you never get in the game you never get hurt.

Where have I ever self proclaimed anything of the sort?

You're obviously frustrated by people who provide the occasional citation and fact-check - the sure sign of a left-wing liberal in your mind - but your pre-election fantasies about what Obama did or said have since become fantasies about what forum members did or said. Get help.

Piss on you Canuck.

This thread is about US Vets, not yours.

Checked your military hardware lately? Where did it come from? Toys r us?

As for getting help. You and your country men are experts at that.
