It's about 70 degrees here now. I figure something bad will happen later on. But I'm ready. There's flash flood warnings for the near counties of KY rolling across the screen and my digital antenna is making the Kentucky / Iowa game unwatchable (even though it's in Miami). I may as well put on my copper boots and take a stroll with my aluminum umbrella.

If you do that, make sure: 1) There are no security cameras in the area, and 2) Have a friend film the stroll so you can sell the video when you get out of the hospital.

The weather bots are warning of overnight freezes in the SF Bay Area. So far this spot is just above freezing; 33F, and is not projected to get any lower. Then we'll start to get some rain perhaps Monday night/Tues-Wed. We'll see. Might be a good time tomorrow to finish the gutters.

Wildfire near Highway 1 in Big Sur: Dramatic photos of blaze in iconic area

... The US National Weather Service (NWS) said it was unusual to see fires taking hold along the damp section of coastline, which has "little or no fire history", especially in January.

"Anecdotally it seems as though the long-term drought is acting like a chronic illness, where even recent rains and cold winter weather isn't helping to keep fires from developing," said the NWS in the small hours of Saturday morning....

The stiff winds that blowed along the coast and into the San Francisco Bay Area at up to 35 mph on Friday appear to have played a role, in addition to knocking down trees and leaving about 30,000 people without power on Saturday morning....

We had 85 today.
And it's a great month to live in SD County. All February, geezers can get into the Zoo Safari Park for free (which we did today, a $120ish value), and about 40 museums are half price for everybody who bothers to pick up a free card at their library or Macy's. And a really cool Van Gogh "immersive" experience. https://vangoghsandiego.com/
Not even to mention car cruises, festivals, food/craft street fairs, yada, all mostly outdoors, and about an 85% vax rate.

Yesterday I had big wind, crazy rain and hail. Today was a record high; 91, beat the previous record high of 89 from 1944.

We've gotten over 7" of rain in May, most of it in the last few days.

A year later, maybe the same for you - thunderstorms . . . in January! Doesn't match CA's feet of rain and stone, but still.

My Middle Tennessee grandmother said if there were thunderstorms in January, there would be snow in May. And sure enough she was right the 2 times we had thunderstorms in January, there was May snow.

Long ago. April snow is very rare her. We'll see if these thunderstorms are a harbinger.

We've got a few days respite between rain rivers, but overall it hasn't been bad here in terms of misery or damage. On the other hand, a bit further north Uselessland is under flood watch, the 1 and much of the 101 is closed, and in southern Oregon a section of the 101 dropped 12 feet in an area where there is no detour route. And Monterey peninsula is about to become Monterey Island.

Strangely, Useless has said nothing on LNF.

My daughter was born here in TN on April 17 back in 83 and it snowed that day. Don't know if there were storms in January that year, though.

Pretty much the same here. Been in the fifties most of the day then this afternoon there was a tornado warning for Greene County and severe thunderstorm warnings for some other nearby counties. I've been keeping a low profile, staying away from people that look like they'd attract lightning (there's many of them around here) and generally making myself as unpredictable as the fucking weather. Hell, you never know what I'll do next.

Not necessarily, but a lot of them look suspicious. As if they possessed a poison sac lizard in their jacket. You can't trust these people. I have noticed a decrease in red hats around here, though. I once considered marketing red aluminum foil for those idiots.
