We are the Deadskins
Sold down the creek
Who cares what they name us
The team will always reek
We're not from D C
We have no name
Dead are the Redskins
Snyder gets the blame

Re: NFL Football
I had hopes that players would refuse to sign with DC given the racist nickname, and maybe that's quietly happened. However, I think it even more likely that players have shunned Snyder.

Re: NFL Football
Hmmm, turning down a multi-million dollar opportunity to play in the NFL in protest over the team name? I don't think so. Unless maybe you're named Kaepernick.

Re: NFL Football
Yeah, that would be extreme and unlikely. However, players switch teams all of the time, and others let it be known that they don't want a team to draft them or trade for them. If DC wants them almost certainly other teams do.

Re: NFL Football
Leaving aside the racist former nickname, which might only seriously matter to a few, players want to win and Snyder has not been the ticket to doing so.

I doubt there are more than a few, if any, players who really care much about the name, but you're right - everybody wants to be on a winning team and if you had your choice between a cellar-dwelling bottom feeder or a team that regularly is in or close to playoffs, who would you choose?

Re: NFL Football
Most would choose to get paid as much as they can. That's why the Pats don't have a roster of all pros all the time.O Really wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 2:32 pmI doubt there are more than a few, if any, players who really care much about the name, but you're right - everybody wants to be on a winning team and if you had your choice between a cellar-dwelling bottom feeder or a team that regularly is in or close to playoffs, who would you choose?

True that. But I'm guessing more have been willing to take a little less to be on a preferred team than would walk away from the table over the team name.

You kind of see that when guys are nearing the end of their run and chasing the ring before the party's over . Randy Moss comes to mind.

Also, for young players it will generally be more lucrative in the long run to be on a winning team, even if it pays less at first.

If the NFL doesn't put themselves in a bubble they're screwed for the season.

Granted, they're in a larger stadium now, but when I was young D.C. Stadium (changed to Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in 1969) was sold out with season tickets many years in advance. It was a football crazy city, and this was during mediocre years. The Washington Football Team says there will not be spectators at games to start the season, but they will have loudspeakers pipe in the sounds of fans booing.

Seen on TV Guide site: Tony Romo is "now the highest-paid TV analyst ever." Take that, Jerry, Jerry, Jerry.

No respect, get no respect at all.
TV sports chick doing a segment on the Seahawk's final 53 and had highlights for some players. Highlight film for running back DeeJay Dallas (The U) showed him going about 50 yards to score on the 'Heels.
