No disrespect to the man, except he probably didn't wear a mask or take any precautions. He lost his leg, but why are they making out with claiming "staggering medical bills" for a WH federal employee who would have great insurance?

understanding which of these go fund me stories are real is sometimes complicated, but I don't believe for one second that the head of WH security doesn't have full coverage.

If they are collecting to give him a therapeutic hot tub or some such - great, but don't lie to me about his staggering medical bills - those are for the poor and working poor.

There are too many non-WH people who don't have decent or even any health insurance - thanks to the WH.

I could be wrong, maybe trump does use the popular corporate popular alternative to enployees with benefits - the gig worker who has no benifits, for his security chief.

I think mask wearing and other precautions or lack thereof were mandated from above, leaving concerned aides, Secret Service and others with only the option of resigning.

Co-pays, coverage limits, rehab, prosthetic, adaptive equipment, new vehicle, remodeling, other costs? Idk. The GoFundMe, especially the December 7 UPDATE, goes into some detail:

45SHOLE and/or Melania should have already stepped up and said that they would personally cover all excess costs. Cheap bastards. It's shameful that friends of the family have to publicly grovel.

I've been on the patient end too offen to believe that he has any significant expenses.

It's a sad story, but it's at the back of the line for me. After I personally fund health care for the millions without care, I'll send this guy a few bucks for his new boat.

QAnon believers spread false claims about COVID-19 vaccine touted by Trump

...

Image
Vaccine protesters join a "Stop the Steal" rally in support of President Donald Trump in Lansing, Mich., in November.

... “Since QAnon is essentially a choose-your-own-adventure, followers are cherrypicking false vaccine narratives as they wish, resulting in multiple interpretations of and explanations for President Trump’s support of the vaccine,” said Cindy Otis, Vice of President for Analysis at Alethea Group, a disinformation investigations and remediation firm. “Some claim that his comments around the vaccine are actually code for other ‘plans’ coming to fruition. Others have announced a willingness to take the vaccine should Trump overturn the election results and take the vaccine himself. Like most conspiracy theorists, QAnon followers can hold completely contradictory ideas and believe them all to be true.” ...

PBS tonight had a report on how TN is currently the worst or near the worst in the country. The Chattanooga mayor was featured bitching about how the state isn't mandating masks and won't let localities do so.

Louisiana congressman-elect dies of Covid

Rep.-elect Luke Letlow (R-La.) has died from the coronavirus, multiple sources confirmed Tuesday evening. He was 41....
He was a Repug, so he may be a COVIDiot, but this article doesn't say so and I figured this thread was safer. Maybe other articles will give fuller accounts of his pre-illness activities.

Sad story, even if he is a repug.
His Twitter feed doesn't contain a lot of right-wing drooling language, but there are quite a few pics of him with people and very few have masks. I can't see that a repug in Louisiana is going to go out of his way to appear to take precautions against the hoax Chinese flu.

Is Your State Doing Enough Coronavirus Testing? Use Our Tool To Find Out
December 22, 2020

Image
Cars are lined up at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles for coronavirus testing. Nearly 2 million people are getting tested a day in the U.S. A new analysis shows millions more are needed to protect the most vulnerable.
A big sloppy question mark is on point.
... A new analysis that researchers at Brown and Harvard universities conducted for NPR finds that the country may finally be close to doing enough testing to identify most people reporting symptoms and at least two of their close contacts.

The amount needed for that is 2 million a day by Jan. 1. The U.S. is currently conducting nearly 1.9 million tests daily.

Testing simply those who are sick and two of their contacts is a bare minimum to respond to current outbreaks, Jha explains.

(Jump to our look-up tool to find out how your state is doing on testing.)

The analysis finds that the U.S. should be doing about three times more than that — or nearly 6 million daily tests — to stop outbreaks from growing and protect the most vulnerable. This approach would proactively screen key groups of asymptomatic people, including college students and school teachers, for example.

"There's no doubt that we've made progress," says Jha. "But testing in this country is still really inadequate."

Even that progress is spotty around the country. Only 12 states plus Washington, D.C., are conducting enough testing to reach the bulk of symptomatic people, according to the analysis. Those states are: Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Vermont.

Another nine are very close, and the remaining 29 states fall short....
NC sucks. How about your state?
