It's nice to see Republicans rallying around Trump. Even McCain is willing to embarrass and disgrace himself in order to make Trump look like intelligent and reasonable.
McCain has always been able to disgrace and embarrass himself
He learned it when he wasn't tortured in Vietnam

I could have put this in the Can't make this (stuff) up thread:

... “Ed Henson, a highly decorated retired NYPD detective, who was also a 9/11 and Flight 587 first responder, is a second cousin of mine,” Hannity told Adweek’s TVNewser blog....

The Lies of John McCain
In a disgusting moment of ‘straight talk’ from Senator John McCain (R-AZ) this week, the former Republican Presidential nominee claimed that President Obama was “directly responsible” for the violent and deadly carnage at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. The senior Senator from Arizona quickly backtracked, offering a Washington-style apology in which he clarified that he “misspoke” and didn’t mean to imply that President Obama was “personally” responsible, simply that it was his policies that led to the death of 49 people and the wounding of another 53.
The Senator’s comments, despite his attempt to backtrack, are offensive and outrageously tone deaf at a moment when our nation needs solidarity and unity. Worse, his comments are also a distortion of the truth and must be called out for what they are: a lie.
Senator McCain’s argument boils down to the following: President Obama, by removing US combat troops from Iraq and not militarily intervening in the Syrian civil war, is responsible for the rise of ISIS, and thus the carnage in Orlando.
Let’s start with some simple fact checking....

Re: Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread
Once every 3 years in all of FL.How Often Do Alligators Kill People in Florida?
While tragic, the snatching of a toddler at Disney World was one in just two dozen fatal alligator attacks in Florida in nearly seven decades.
When an alligator snatched and killed 2-year-old Lane Graves in June on the edge of a lake at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, many people wondered why Disney didn’t do more to prevent such an attack. Eyewitnesses said there were no signs warning about alligators at the Seven Seas Lagoon and nothing preventing people from approaching the water.
The apparent lack of precaution could be because alligators are almost everywhere in Florida, yet deadly attacks are rare. “There are millions of people living really in the same places where there are millions of alligators,” says Frank Mazzotti, an alligator expert and a professor at the University of Florida. “Alligators are not dangerous. They certainly have capability of inflicting harm on people, but under most circumstances that is simply something that’s not going to happen.”
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) estimates there are 1.3 million alligators in the state. Yet the agency says that between 1948 and April 2016 there were just 23 unprovoked fatal alligator attacks on people there. By comparison, in 2014, 2,494 people died in car crashes in Florida. Even lightning strikes kill far more Floridians than gators do; since 2006, 51 people have died from lightning in the state.
And despite Disney World’s 250,000 daily visitors and on-site staff, police said such an incident had never happened there before. (There was a nonfatal alligator attack on a child at the resort in 1986, according to reports from the time.) ...
Does Disney need "Don't drive" and "Beware of lightning" signs, too? It would be an interesting comparison to see how many people have died at Disney World between its October 1, 1971 opening and now, and what the causes were. For example, choking - at the prices, the long lines and on the food sold there.

That they know about. Would be interesting to know how many people in that time frame are still on Missing Persons rosters. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) estimates there are 1.3 million alligators in the state. There actually are some "beware the lightning" signs. Mostly golf courses.
There are some "beware the alligator" signs in lots of places, parks, etc.
No "beware the sharks" that I've seen.
Beware the old Canadian drivers would be a good suggestion.
