POTUSes

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Donald Trump fumes over flag flying at half-staff to honor Jimmy Carter during inauguration

:crybaby: Perpetual victim, awww.

"half mast [sic]"

Moron.

"They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves."

DonOLD accusations always describe himself.

"Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years - It’s a total mess!" Trump said.
LIE, as usual.
"In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast.
LIE, as usual. Fta in my prior post:
... This isn’t the first time that a presidential inauguration occurred as flags flew at half-staff to honor a former president.

Then-President Richard Nixon — after the death of Harry S. Truman on Dec. 26, 1972 — took the oath of office for a second term on Jan. 20, 1973, as the D.C. sky was “heavy with gray clouds” while flags flew at half-staff and the sounds of a protest could be heard faintly in the distance, Time magazine reported.
 During TRE45QN's adulthood. Opps.

Not that I'm a Nixon fan, but this is how a real POTUS behaves out of respect for the office:
Nixon’s predecessor, former President Lyndon B. Johnson, would go on to die of a heart attack just two days later, which caused Nixon to call for flags to fly at half-staff for another 30 days.
What's good for the goose . . . Shortened period or no half staff flag flying when DonOLD croaks.
Nobody wants to see this,
LIE, as usual. I want to see it out of respect for Carter and tradition.
and no American can be happy about it.
LIE, as usual. I think it's hilarious that the period of mourning coincides with Dolt .45's inauguration.
Let’s see how it plays out."
:wtf: The flags WILL fly at half staff, delusional crybaby.

It may be a surprise to some on this forum, but most folks could care less whether Michelle missed the funeral and why.

That's undoubtedly true, and most folks could(n't) care less about Trumps every random whine, either, but that doesn't keep him from being covered and reported ad nauseum. If I had my choice, I'd rather have a situation where I had to look for political news instead of having to sort through tons of trivial politics to find anything else.

Quite frankly, I did not watch it. I understand she basically ignored Trump. Her choice. No opinion.

I think a person, including a President, should be given the degree of courtesy and respect he deserves. An objective person, with no US political bias, would look at Trump's daily behaviour and likely determine that he has earned none. I wasn't a fan of President Carter, but I became a fan of ex-President Carter. Look at the difference in what he did after he left office, and what Bush the Younger did, and what Clinton did, and compare that to what Trump has done since he left office and there's really not much to respect other than the title of "President" that rings pretty hollow right now.

He's mostly stayed out of politics, though he made it clear that he's not a MAGAt.
He's done some charity work.
He paints and hangs out at the ranch.
He's not engaged like Jimmy was, but what makes him a "disgrace"?

Why Michelle Obama skipped Jimmy Carter’s funeral

All five living presidents and their partners attended former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, except for one person: former First Lady Michelle Obama....

It’s not entirely clear why the former first lady was absent. However, CNN’s Chief National Affairs Correspondent Jeff Zeleny reports it was due to an extended vacation in Hawaii.

“I’m told by her advisors that she has scheduling conflicts,” Zeleney said on Thursday morning. “She’s still in Hawaii.”
 Separation from Barack?

IMO:
1. Michelle is not afraid of sitting next to DonOLD, nor would she be petty enough to shun it.
2. She's the former FLOTUS, outside of the first 3 rows where her seat is specified by protocol, she could have sat wherever the hell she wanted.
... Other attendees included President Gerald Ford’s youngest son, Steven Ford, country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood and former Vice President Walter Mondale’s son, Ted Mondale.
Ummm, Al Gore, the Pences and maybe the Quayles, too.
... “What I find extraordinary about Jimmy Carter, though, is that millions of people all around the world, all over the world, feel they lost a friend, as well, even though they never met him,” Biden said in a statement following Carter’s death. “That’s because Jimmy Carter lived a life measured not by words but by his deeds.”...

Have you ever known an ex president wo has done less (except maybe Nixon, but he gets a pass for being a disgrace and also maybe Reagan who also gets a pass for early alzheimers)?

Not being MAGA isn't good enough when a fascist is about to take an oath that means nothing.

LBJ - nothing
Ford - nearly nothing, except for some GOP pol promotion
Daddy Shrub - some international charity/relief work, but not much else
Bill Clinton did a lot, but he was still young
Barack - politically pretty active, but that's a bad thing to non-Dem Americans, also young.
Shrub - left in disgrace, only exceeded by Nixon. I'm kinda glad that he stayed out of the spotlight. I did not want to be reminded of his war crimes.

Jimmy is the exception IMO, not Shrub.
