Re: 2024 Elections
How's Steve Garvey doing you may ask?
Turns out he's a total scumbag with no campaign to speak of.
In the months since Steve Garvey, the former Los Angeles Dodgers legend turned Republican political candidate, won a surprise slot in the general election of California’s Senate race, he has continued to run a blank-slate campaign virtually free of substance and mostly under the radar.
But Garvey’s days of coasting along scrutiny-free in this election are over.
In the late ’80s, at the end of his lengthy baseball career, it was revealed that Garvey—known then as Mr. Clean, ironically—was embroiled in multiple extramarital affairs and had also accumulated a staggering amount of debt. The ’90s and early 2000s brought additional, damning reports about how Garvey was racking up more debts with his luxury-filled lifestyle. Now stuffed-away skeletons are once again falling out of his closet.

Re: 2024 Elections
Eww.Opinion
Why the Hell Is This Former Baseball Star Really Running for Senate? I Think I Found a Clue.
... No longer. Garvey is perfectly content water-skiing well behind his opponent, catching waves while sporting a blank stare and a dull smile, until November. That’s when Schiff, a centrist like Feinstein, with boatloads of cash on hand and national name recognition thanks to his prominent place in Trump’s first impeachment, will cut Garvey loose and crush him. And Garvey won’t care. He got to cross off a bucket-list item and own a couple of libs (Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee) en route to a landslide defeat, and he’ll have received a whole lot of press in the process.
Indeed, as far as Garvey is concerned, the only meaningful outcome here is that he’ll likely be more in demand for his next motivational speaking circuit—and able to charge a lot more for his appearances. Maybe Garvey will also increase his Cameo fee when he inevitably unfreezes his account.
All he has to do is keep his head down and continue ignoring requests for comment from the press. As a reward, he can add “general election Senate candidate” to his résumé. I look forward to reading all about it on the next stevegarvey.com redesign.

Money-Grubbing Felon’s Wild Warning to MAGA: Back Off
Looks like someone wants to keep all the “political prisoner” cash to himself.
It’s every man for themselves in the Wild West of the Republican Party, with convicted felon Donald Trump warning other party members to stay far away from his fundraising efforts.
The presumptive GOP presidential candidate’s campaign wasted no time Thursday leveraging his hush-money conviction for its fundraising efforts, raising $34.8 million in a small-dollar haul in the hours after Trump became the first former president turned convicted felon in U.S. history.

In emails to his supporters, a free-walking Trump described himself as a “political prisoner” and questioned if the verdict would be the “end of America.”
But Trump has made it abundantly clear that he doesn’t want any down-ballot Republicans to join his crusade—for fear that they could line their own pockets with donations that might instead have gone to him.
“Any Republican elected official, candidate or party committee siphoning money from President Trump’s donors are no better than Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Trump co–campaign manager Chris LaCivita told Politico. “We’re keeping a list, we’ll be checking it twice, and we aren’t in the spirit of Christmas.”

MAGAts love his greed. The Trump campaign had already delivered an unusual notice to GOP vendors in April requesting that other campaigning Republicans “who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness” share a minimum of 5 percent of their fundraising solicitations with the former president....

Re: 2024 Elections
That hurts my brain, and breaks my heart.
Ever since the repugs took over the legislature back in 2010 or so, it's been a downhill slope for NC. But for this guy to even be marginally competitive is shameful. Reviled segregationist George Wallace was objectively a much better candidate (and person) than Robinson. It's not like Robinson just has anti-gay views. No matter his views, he's not qualified to be governor. Yet that's probably seen as a positive by many. Scary world.

Re: 2024 Elections
The resistance:
Former GOP Official Hits ‘Wailing’ MAGA Republicans With A Harsh Truth
Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) told Republicans who are “gnashing and wailing” about Donald Trump’s hush money conviction that they “can’t deny the facts” regarding the prosecution of the former president.
Trump had sex with porn actor Stormy Daniels, lied about it, paid money to keep it quiet and then continued to lie about it until “a jury of his peers found him guilty” last week, Duncan alleged Tuesday to CNN’s Laura Coates.

Will they outnumber the fascist-leaning independents and Dems that will vote for TRE45QN?Duncan’s dose of harsh truth for MAGA Republicans came after he boiled the 2024 election down to one thing.
The contest will “come down to Republicans like me, Republicans that are lifelong Republicans, conservative in nature, but just don’t think Donald Trump is anywhere near fit to have the office of president,” he said.
“It’s whether or not we’re going to stay at home and just let it happen with the weight of gravity or if we’re going to show up and do something about it,” Duncan continued.

... Duncan, who incensed Trump following the 2020 election with his refusal to support his alleged efforts to overturn his loss, announced his backing for Biden in an opinion piece in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution earlier this month.
“This November, I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” he wrote, adding that Trump has “disqualified himself through his conduct and his character.”

Re: 2024 Elections
This cycle is really just going to be about turnout, especially on the Dem side.
Is there really anyone who hasn't made up there mind? I don't think anyone is on the fence about trump, they love him or hate him.
Joe's problem isn't about losing voters to trump, it's about getting apathetic Dems to block trump, which should be enough of a reason. Hope I'm right.

Re: 2024 Elections
There are two kinds of "undecided" voters out there. There's the people who don't really follow or care much about politics but may show up to vote every Presidential election. Those people will be affected by whatever happens and what ads they see and what people say in the last couple of months before the election.
And there are the one who really really don't like either Trump or Biden and keep hoping a miraculous alternative will appear. These are dangerous in that they are probably the least likely to turn out.

Re: 2024 Elections
The first part refers to the majority of the electorate, which is why I put very little stock into polls this far out. The last two cycles (probably more if I cared to research) have proven that true.O Really wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 10:44 amThere are two kinds of "undecided" voters out there. The second part amplifies my point about turnout. Expect to see a record amount of attack ads this fall for swing state voters.
They have my sympathy.
