Re: The LEO thread
Yeah, Vrede has said such for a long time. I've generally said that Hoover's been dead for almost a half century and there were major purges after he left and it's not the same FBI. Apparently I was wrong. Rotten to the core, it seems.

Nah, they should just be able to communicate with other services better and spy on U.S. Citizens. Oh wait....Boatrocker wrote:The FBI culture remains permanently tainted by decades of Hoover. It should be dismantled and plowed under.

Hoover was as much an extreme symptom of our neofascist tendencies as the cause. We can all point to individual bad guys, but I'm more disturbed by our systemic failings.

Wikipedia: James Comey: FBI Director
Sounds like Hillary is stuck with him until well after the NEXT election.Comey was confirmed by the Senate on July 29, 2013, for a full ten-year term running the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was sworn in as FBI director on September 4, 2013.

Nope. Just because it's a ten year term doesn't mean he can't be fired. Bill fired one before.

If obama doesn’t fire his sorry ass on Wednesday, Hillary can't

Re: The LEO thread
I think Obama ought to fire his sorry ass on Wednesday an issue a Presidential pardon for any residual bull-shit allegations against Hillary. Republicans would scream, but what the hell, they scream anyway.

Re: The LEO thread
I wouldn't rule out a Hillary firing, and Obama might be more likely to fire Comey and make a recess appointment than add more controversy to the lame duck session. We'll see, it's not like the GOP is thrilled with him either.

Unlocked and Loaded : Missing Police Guns in Upstate SC
The best target for Upstate criminals looking for a gun might be the nearest police cruiser, a 7News investigation has found.
Dozens of handguns, shotguns, rifles, and a submachine gun are now in the hands of criminals who saw the badge as an easy mark, police reports show.
In one case, not a week had passed before a stolen department-issued handgun was used to shoot an Anderson man at point-blank range in the head during a carjacking....
It’s one of 56 service weapons taken from Upstate police since 2010, the 7News investigation found.
Roughly 70-percent of those firearms are still on the street.
In many cases, officers made it easy for the criminals – half the weapons were stolen from vehicles and homes left unlocked.
“I know the criminal element knows that we have stuff that they might want,” Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said.
The sheriff’s office had a rash of thefts where police cruisers were targeted and both firearms and ammunition were taken.
In the last six years, the Anderson County office had 8 weapons stolen, including shotguns, handguns and SWAT team equipment stolen.
Among the firearms lost is a fully automatic rifle that had been left in a county-owned Chevy Tahoe.
“A wrecker hooked up to the Tahoe and drug it out of the parking garage,” Skipper said. “They stole the whole car.”
... In Greenville County, the 7News investigation revealed nine weapons either lost or stolen.
Reports show seven were swiped from unlocked vehicles. Among the weapons taken were several Glock handguns, .38-caliber pistols and an MP5 submachine gun.
The submachine gun might now be in the hands of a gang, police reports indicate.
Anderson Police had five weapons stolen, including and AR-15 taken from a vehicle left unlocked in the officer’s front yard, reports show.
Along with the firearms, Upstate agencies also can’t account for the whereabouts of missing Tasers, handcuffs, bulletproof vests and police badges....

Manslaughter, yes. Murder one, which he should have been charged with, no.

Re: The LEO thread
I'm beginning to think that these selections for high posts are just too awful to be chance. In most publicized instances so far, he's actually picked one of the worst choices available. In most cases, he could have gotten a better pick by throwing a dart on a map and nominating whoever lives there. The best of the bunch so far might be Elaine Chou, former Labor Secretary with Bush. And that's only because she's held a cabinet post before and is not an ideological extremist. She did very little at Labor but, unless you count lost opportunity, did little harm either. Consider, however, that at Transportation she'll be charged with keeping rail, air, and trucking transit safe - and at Labor (in charge of OSHA), issued not one major safety regulation (new or revised) in her tenure. The others have to be awful by intent. I wonder how long Trump's patience will last with an appointee who is clearly failing - and some if not most of them will.
