Idiot box thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Great to hear George Carlin citing fresh "military intelligence" as a contradiction in terms. It's a commonplace joke now.

If you mean in the top 50 list, was that really a "character" or was that just Jane Curtin doing debate?

If you mean in the SNL50, there was mention of it. Maybe when Bill Murray was counting down the best WU anchors?

EDIT: Also,
'SNL' Calls Out History of Problematic Sketches in 'In Memoriam' of Cancelable Offenses
Five Timers Club member Tom Hanks poured one out for sketches that didn't age well during 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special.'

... And among the called-out numbers were several iconic bits, including Dan Aykroyd's famous Weekend Update debate opener, "Jane, you ignorant slut!" ...
EDIT: Yep.
Bill Murray Takes Over 'Weekend Update' to Hilariously Rank Its Anchors from 'Worst to Best' During SNL50 Special

... Chevy Chase came in 4th, with Jane Curtin and Danny Aykroyd in 3rd.

“I was the first to call Jane an ignorant slut backstage,” Murray recalled. “Danny had the brilliant idea to say it on camera and really, really mean it!”...

Jeff Probst Reveals Fans Will Get To Vote On ‘Key Elements’ of Survivor 50

Viewers can shape the season.

Survivor 50 is still a year away from airing, but the season itself will start filming in June, and Jeff Probst is tasking long-time viewers with some important decisions.

As announced on the official Survivor social media channels, host and executive producer Probst revealed that fans will be able to vote on what twists feature on Survivor 50. These votes will take place during the airing of Survivor 48, which premieres this Wednesday, February 26

UPDATE: CBS has now shared a press release with more details. Some of the elements fans will be able to vote on include “Idols or No Idols,” “Final Four Fire Making: Keep It or Lose It,” and even “Live Finale and Reunion Show in L.A. – or Keep the Winner Reveal and Aftershow in the Jungles of Fiji.”

The results of the votes will be kept secret until the filming of Survivor 50, meaning viewers won’t find out until the season airs in 2026.

mrs hall meets her son

During the episode the name of his ship was mentioned,or maybe it was on his hat or something. Anyway I googled it. It went down with all hands.
I may have missed all or part of Series 3 (2022) I'll have to look for streaming. There were HMS Repulse survivors:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Repul ... 6)#Force_Z
Crew was 967 and there was "the loss of 508 officers and men." Did Mrs Hall learn that he died? I can't find the answer online.

You’re right, I remember now that there “will be” survivors.
Merry Christmas!
Spoiler:
I was waiting for bad news about him, but no. I keep forgetting that the books are based on irl events, not TV scriptwriting.

Otoh, a child is born  . . . and a vet gets bitten on the ass
And Mrs. Hall got a good view.
Spoiler:
His ass healed, apparently.
The fox survived, maybe.
Jimmy has his first birthday party.
Tristan is back, safe and teaching new vets for the Army.
Edward survived. He's injured and in a Singapore hospital. He called Mrs Hall for xmas, tears all around.

Sorry you aren't here to share it. :(

Survivor gets an A+ for autism awareness
That interaction between Joe and Eva was a masterclass in what autism is, how it doesn’t have to be an impediment, being clear and open about the challenges, and open to being given direction on how to help. Eva was so clear and helpful to Joe, and you could tell Joe gave his full attention to being guided. And the cherry on top: he asks for her consent to give her a hug. A+ interaction all around.
Completely agreed and everything we heard Eva say was spot on from my perspective. As soon as she was shown to be grabbing bamboo repeatedly I turned and told my friend "she's hyperfixating on this task for sure" then a minute or two later that's exactly what she said.

It was an incredible scene!!

Binging Yellowstone. Don't know how true this is but it sorta cracked me up.

Kevin Costner was confronting a vegan protester who didn't want them to kill cattle.

Under a Blanket of Red (2021)

John Dutton: You ever plow a field, Summer? To plant the kenwa or sorbin or whatever the hell it is you eat, you kill everything on the ground and under it. You kill every snake, every frog, every mouse, mole, vole, worm, quail. You kill 'em all. So I guess the only real question is, how cute does an animal have to be before you care if it dies to feed ya?

It's true, less so if the crops are organic. Then, it takes multiple pounds of crops to create one pound of animal, especially with cattle. So, the animals still come out ahead with vegan diets. Bet the vegan protester didn't throw that in Kevin's face, it was his show.

I've been watching "The View" lately. When the Signalgate thing was blowing up, Whoopi Goldberg began talking about it saif "Jeffrey Goldberg, my cousin" and just the other day Ana Navarro jumped in to say "no relation" when another panel member was talking about Peter Navarro.

TV Mini Series 2017 TV-MA

Nominated for 4 Primetime Emmys
5 wins & 10 nominations total, List

Storyline

Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's ten-part, 18-hour documentary series, THE VIETNAM WAR, tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive, and controversial events in American history as it has never before been told on film. Visceral and immersive, the series explores the human dimensions of the war through revelatory testimony of nearly 80 witnesses from all sides-Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as combatants and civilians from North and South Vietnam. Ten years in the making, the series includes rarely seen and digitally re-mastered archival footage from sources around the globe, photographs taken by some of the most celebrated photojournalists of the 20th Century, historic television broadcasts, evocative home movies, and secret audio recordings from inside the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations. THE VIETNAM WAR features more than 100 iconic musical recordings from greatest artists of the era and haunting original music from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as well as the Silk Road Ensemble featuring Yo-Yo Ma.
