The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Point proven....you're obsessed with gays.
Three day weekends make me feel gay in a non gay sort of way.

Almost.

I'd also be a proponent of organized religion for permanent three day weekends.....almost. But actually, it's just something else to pray for that will never happen

India recognizes all (most?) major religious holidays - Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, etc - so my buddies over there get a three day weekend almost every month because of some religious or state holiday. Jealous...

I'd venture to guess they set aside a day to commemorate the birthdays of those sacred cows and sacred macaque monkeys too.

If I didn't know better, I'd think that sounded a lot like ridicule of someone else's religious beliefs. Surely not. Glass houses and all. ;)

Unsure whether or not it's a real serious religion thingy, never bothered to look it up.

However the monkeys are considered to be some sort of sacred doober-flitch-it, along with the overwhelming numbers of rats that roam the temples and streets of some of their cities....well.....since they are given their own temples, I guess you could say it's a religion thingy, :-|| and I shouldn't have slung them there rocks. (glass houses and all that)

As far as that cow wandering somewhere in the street, and the possibility it might be their late Aunt Matilda or Uncle Rufus come back to ......
oh shoot, never mind. :silent:

So uh.... how do you know they aren't right if you haven't looked up all the religions? I don't think believing the first one you come to is going to be a valid excuse for god.

One neat thing about Hinduism is its relation to pre-Christian European paganism. The gods of the Hindu pantheon have similarities to the gods of pre-Christian Europe. Present day languages spoken in India and Most European languages come from the same root. There are many words that bear similarities. Some time ago Europeans and present day Indians split apart and went their separate ways, keeping some similarities, and developing their own distinct flavors (like Chicken Korma).

Not going anywhere with this, this stuff is just interesting.

Book recommendation time: http://www.amazon.com/Heaven-Heroes-Hap ... +happiness

Hot damn. When I got that book it was <5 dollars. Oh well it's an interesting book.

Self loathing hipsters also love Hinduism (see Asheville).

I don't see him. Oh, God, no. God, nooooooo. I'm doomed. Something is wrong.....I don't see the vision. Either my computer is not working right or it's God's will. He knows I loathe self loathers anyway; I guess.

That forms an infinite loop of self loathing.

Recursive self loathing.

Well, Jesus is all right with me, too, but I must be missing your point. Interest in Eastern religions is less than or not equal to "hipster." Hipsters are not exclusively self loathers; lots of others self loathe themselves.....Michael Jackson so self loathed himself that he tried to be someone else. I'm fine with who I am, and think Michael Jackson is funny.
