Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Judge rules against Georgia in legal fight over Israel oath

... Requiring people who want to do business with the state to pledge that they are not engaged in a boycott of Israel is “unconstitutional compelled speech,” U.S. District Court Judge Mark H. Cohen wrote in his recent ruling....

The law is similar to others passed in recent years in more than 20 states, including Texas, Arizona, Arkansas and Maryland.

Yair Lapid receives mandate to form (center-left) Israeli government, oust Netanyahu

Fingers crossed, buh-bye Nuttyyahoo.
My finger crossing sucks.
Israel's "change bloc" collapses, leaving Netanyahu in charge

In a dramatic shift that comes amid fighting in the Gaza strip and clashes between Jewish and Arab citizens in Israel, right-wing kingmaker Naftali Bennett has announced he will no longer seek an alternative government to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Nothing suspicious about this deadly timing, nothing at all.
Please, please, please.

Unlikely Israeli Political Coalition Poised To Oust Netanyahu

However, it's like sausage being made:
... The attempt to put an end to Netanyahu's rule, publicly announced Sunday night by hard-right party leader Naftali Bennett, has been welcomed by a surprising cross-section of left-wing and right-wing Israelis, as Netanyahu and his allies fight fiercely to keep him in power ahead of a looming Wednesday deadline for a new coalition to be reached.

If lawmakers succeed, Bennett, a one-time Netanyahu aide who now heads Israel's tiny Yamina Party, would take the prime minister's seat as head of a coalition government sharing power with centrist politician Yair Lapid, a former TV news anchor and finance minister whose Yesh Atid is the second largest of Israel's many political parties. The two would take turns as prime minister if the fragile coalition manages to hold for long enough, with Bennett going first.

The coalition would combine parties from across the political spectrum that normally disagree on many political issues but have apparently united on the need to move on from the Netanyahu era. Their success may depend on the culturally conservative Arab party known as the United Arab List or Ra'am, which would be the first Arab-led party to participate in a coalition government in Israel.
It's not a done deal:
... After Bennett's announcement Sunday night, Netanyahu made a nine-minute appeal to right-wing Israelis, characterizing the budding coalition as a threat to Israel's security and warning lawmakers not to support what he called a "dangerous, leftist government."

"If you are a right-winger, you do not vote for a left-wing government. That is the simple truth," Netanyahu said. "Don't cheat your voters and yourselves."

... Israeli media reported that Knesset guards decided Sunday to increase security for Bennett ally Ayelet Shaked after 300 people protested outside her home in Tel Aviv, some with signs reading "leftist traitors."

In a statement to his faction released Monday, Lapid called Netanyahu's speech "dangerous and unhinged" and added that he, along with Shaked and Bennett, have faced threats of violence and murder in recent days.
Sounds familiar.
... But for many Palestinians, Bennett — a former settler who once vowed to "do everything in my power to make sure [Palestinians] never get a state" – is viewed, at best, as unlikely to change Israel's stance toward the long-running stalemate.

Another of Israel's Arab political parties, Balad, said in a statement that Bennett had "more right-wing, extremist and racist views than Netanyahu."
Sigh.
"He is definitely a dangerous politician," said Mkhaimar Abu Sada, a Palestinian political scientist based in Gaza. "But his hands will be tied with his coalition partners and [the] U.S. administration, which will not tolerate extreme right-wing policies."
Fingers crossed <gulp>.

It won't be long before Nuttyahoo bleats out "Only I can fix it" and then proceeds to make several "perfect" phone calls, one of which will be to his party officers in the newest "annexed' settlements instructing them to "find the votes" that will make things right. Hold on to your hat.

Speaking of the 'fog of war':
Shireen Abu Akleh: Al Jazeera accuses Israel of shooting dead journalist in West Bank

An Al Jazeera correspondent has been shot dead while covering a raid in the occupied West Bank town of Jenin.

The Qatari-based broadcaster said Shireen Abu Akleh, a well-known Palestinian and American female reporter, was killed by Israeli forces.

In a statement, Al Jazeera called on the international community to “condemn and hold the Israeli occupation forces accountable for deliberately targeting and killing our colleague, Shireen Abu Akleh”.

Another journalist, working for the Jerusalem-based Al-Quds newspaper, was also shot and wounded in the incident.

The Israeli military disputed that its forces had shot the two journalists.

It said Israeli soldiers came under attack with heavy gunfire and explosives while operating in Jenin, and that they fired back. The military said it is “investigating the event and looking into the possibility that the journalists were hit by the Palestinian gunmen”....
PBS called her a "household name" across the region for her years of quality reporting. I'll bet that the IDF killed her, but -0-? . I am certain that if the IDF did kill her there will be lots of bluster but no significant repercussions from the US govt.

"Israeli police confront with mourners as they carry the casket of slain Al Jazeera veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh during her funeral in east Jerusalem, Friday, May 13, 2022. JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli riot police on Friday pushed and beat pallbearers at the funeral for slain Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, causing them to briefly drop the casket in a shocking start to a procession that turned into perhaps the largest display of Palestinian nationalism in Jerusalem in a generation.

The scenes of violence were likely to add to the sense of grief and outrage across the Arab world that has followed the death of Abu Akleh, who witnesses say was killed by Israeli troops Wednesday during a raid in the occupied West Bank. They also illustrated the deep sensitivities over east Jerusalem -- which is claimed by both Israel and the Palestinians and has sparked repeated rounds of violence.

Abu Akleh, 51, was a household name across the Arab world, synonymous with Al Jazeera’s coverage of life under Israeli rule, which is well into its sixth decade with no end in sight. A 25-year veteran of the satellite channel, she was revered by Palestinians as a local hero.

Thousands of people, many waving Palestinian flags and chanting “Palestine! Palestine!” attended the funeral. It was believed to be the largest Palestinian funeral in Jerusalem since Faisal Husseini, a Palestinian leader and scion of a prominent family, died in 2001.

Ahead of the burial, a large crowd gathered to escort her casket from an east Jerusalem hospital to a Catholic church in the nearby Old City. Many of the mourners held Palestinian flags, and the crowd began shouting, “We sacrifice our soul and blood for you, Shireen.”'

Well that was too much for the thug police who moved in and beat the people in the mourners, including the pall bearers.

"Shortly after, Israel police moved in, pushing and clubbing mourners. As the helmeted riot police approached, they hit pallbearers, causing one man to lose control of the casket as it dropped toward the ground. Police ripped Palestinian flags out of people's hands and fired stun grenades to disperse the crowd."

Isreal, where only jews have rights.

"Police said the crowd at the hospital was chanting “nationalist incitement,” ignored calls to stop and threw stones at them. “The policemen were forced to act,” police said. They issued a video in which a commander outside the hospital warns the crowd that police will come in if they don’t stop their incitement and “nationalist songs.”'

And of course everyone on both sides with a phone had a camera, but no one has stills or video of the poor riot police being hit with stones.
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”
