The 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico came to a close Tuesday when Team USA outlasted Spain, 84-70, to complete a perfect 5-0 week in San Juan and finish in first place. The Americans had already qualified for this fall's World Cup, but have now officially received their boarding pass.

As expected, Team USA led all teams in scoring with an average of 95.8 points per game. Their 14-point win over Spain was by far the closest game of the tournament, and their five victories came by an average of 42 points.

... For the tournament, Clark averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 assists on 52.9% shooting from the field, including 40% from 3-point range. Fittingly, she led both Team USA and the tournament in assists. All signs point to Clark being on the plane to Berlin in September....

Oh it's definitely real. Whether or not it's part of the problem with WNBA and Caitlin might be open to discussion, but it's surprising that you would even wonder if it's a real phenomenon, given that you - as well as I and most everybody else here - has benefitted most of our life. It's that some people will always receive some advantage from their skin colour, perceived race, or physical appearance in most interactions with others. There have been many studies confirming the effect, a lot are available in Google. But as an example, a research organization created identical resumes for a group of people, with the ONLY difference being whether the candidates had a "Black sounding" or "White sounding" name. All were sent in application for the same position, and all met the stated hiring criteria. Guess who got picked for interviews waaaay more than the others - yup, that would be the Chads, followed by the Heathers, then the D'Waynes and lastly the Rasheedas. Repeated trials with different resumes for different positions consistently turned up the same results. If all the companies knew about the applicant was their perceived race and gender, they'd take the white male almost every time.

It works for physical aspects other than racial, too. Pretty people get advantages. Further evidence has been shown in aspects controllable by the individual. You're old enough to remember John Malloy "Dress for Success." He conducted extensive experimentation that showed how a person dressed significantly affected how they were treated and most life situations. All because of the perceptions others have. It works whether it's something controllable, like clothes and hair, or not controllable, like race, and there's no question that it's real.

I do not question your explanation. It also does not mean a person should be put on a guilt trip because they are White. People are people and their prejudices will always be there. I remember from the "The Peter Principle" that an ounce of image is worth a pound of performance and I witnessed that theory play out during my career. I have no problem with that as it requires some effort to polish one's image.

With Caitlin, she is an excellent player who just happens to be White.

I'm not surprised. It's typical of White male cons to maintain the myth of individual achievement. This goes back to the slavers and before.

Caitlin has massive talent, and anyone that's been paying attention knows that I sing her praises as much as anyone on BRD. However, she's proved to be not that much more talented than her Black competitors. So, much of the things flowing her way - media, ticket and merch sales, viewership, endorsements, etc. flows from her being White.

Clark's stats are laudable but not overwhelming. The Fever are 11-8 and in 7th place, nearing the Playoff bubble. Then,

The Indiana Fever is a good team with Caitlin Clark.

But without her, the Fever is downright dominant....
