That's confusing.
But it's actually an example of evolution in action. This whole thing only started less than two years ago. It's spread around the world (our fault) and has mutated several times during that period. It will continue to mutate until it dies out altogether or becomes some kind of certain death no chance version. Or it could be god saying he wants us to die. You got your global climate crisis on the little hand and your little virus crisis on the big hand. And I suspect we're all pigs looking at clocks.
Like I said, "A virus doesn't care if anyone is confused. It just wants to replicate as much as possible. And even that is a stretch. A virus has no thoughts or emotions. It just is."

And what it more or less boils down to, is we are all just the products of chemical reactions. In that respect, we have our existence in common with viruses. Sort of puts a new spin on the old slogan, "Better Living Through Chemistry".
No, professor, the cat is "Stretch" and has nothing to do with this. But you are correct that primitive organisms such as a virus mutate (evolve) at a much more rapid rate than higher order life forms like you and Stretch.

Idk, Useless' cat, "Stretch", is clearly the product of some hellacious "chemical reactions." It would put Ken Kesey to shame.

Trump sought to 'undermine' COVID-19 response, says panel

The Trump administration deliberately undermined the nation's coronavirus response for political purposes, including by weakening testing guidance and championing widespread "herd immunity," according to a new report from the House panel investigating the pandemic response....

In interviews with officials and from uncovered emails and other documents, the committee found that the former administration failed to heed warnings about supply shortages, blocked public health officials from speaking publicly and neglected the pandemic response in order to focus on the 2020 presidential election and on promoting the lie that the election was "stolen" from Trump through widespread fraud....

Tough times ahead?
Epidemiologist on PBS, paraphrased: We're still collecting data, but IF Omicron is 1/2 as likely to cause serious illness for an individual and it's 3 times as contagious we will see an increase in hospitalizations.

Ut-oh.
Omicron infections appear no less severe than Delta; COVID-19 lowers sperm count, motility

... Omicron infections no less severe based on early UK data

Infections caused by the Omicron variant of the coronavirus do not appear to be less severe than infections from Delta, according to early data from the UK.

Researchers at Imperial College London compared 11,329 people with confirmed or likely Omicron infections with nearly 200,000 people infected with other variants. So far, according to a report issued ahead of peer review and updated on Monday, they see "no evidence of Omicron having lower severity than Delta, judged by either the proportion of people testing positive who report symptoms, or by the proportion of cases seeking hospital care after infection."
Opps.
For vaccines available in the UK, effectiveness against symptomatic Omicron infection ranged from 0% to 20% after two doses, and from 55% to 80% following a booster dose.
Ugh.
The report also estimated that after taking individual risk factors into account, the odds of reinfection with Omicron are 5.4 times greater than for reinfection with Delta. A study of healthcare workers in the pre-Omicron era estimated that a prior SARS-CoV-2 infection afforded 85% protection against a second infection over 6 months, the researchers said, while "the protection against reinfection by Omicron afforded by past infection may be as low as 19%." ...

Well, there is a plus side, in that the Omicron variant seems to cause less severe illness than the original or Delta variant. The down side is that Omicron is much more transmissible. So the net effect may be increased hospitalization with Omicron, but fewer deaths. Like Fauci often says, it's probably too early to say for sure.

I still have some lingering effects. My taste and smell aren't quite 100%. And I feel like I get really fatigued after strenuous activity. It's only been a few weeks so hopefully that goes away.

Nope. I took a test at CVS that gave results within a few hours. It didn't mention the strain.
