Evil Obamacare

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Thanks, Obama . . . ?? :-0?>

"We may still be fighting over the Affordable Care Act and health care in general in America, but there’s one area where things are definitely getting better: teen pregnancy. "
What does Americans bitching about the Affordable Care Act have to do with teen pregnancy? For the most part, teens aren't even involved with the ACA, unless free contraceptives are involved. Thanks, Obama . . . ??

"Teen pregnancy is down because teens are using birth control better and more often."
Again: Thanks, Obama . . . ??
Is Obama there, you reckon, to show them the proper use of birth control, and the correct frequency of sexual relations?

Not ridiculing you Vrede, I'm ridiculing the article, which smacks of encouraging teens to engage in sexual activities. Birth control may be down, but it's not fool-proof; and this article leads to a sense of false security.

I think it was Ann Landers that said it best: The best birth control is a pill . . . held tightly between your knees.

Except that the states that have the highest rates of youth pregnancy and STDs are the Bible-belt states where abstinence-only birth control is taught.

But sure, the relationship between the Affordable Care Act and lower teen pregnancy is circumstantial. Evidence (better health care results in states with the ACA), but not *conclusive* evidence.

Except . . .
"Except what?" What does the holding of a pill between the knees (Oh crap! that was a joke!) have to do with Bible Belt states having "the highest rates of youth pregnancy and STDs"? "Except" non-Bible Belt girls are better at holding the pill? "Except" maybe non-Bible girls in the north are more influential and have the money for birth control? Where are you laying blame?

the states that have the highest rates of youth pregnancy and STDs are the Bible-belt states where abstinence-only birth control is taught.
55% of the American Black population lives in the South, and they are, on the average, poorer and less educated than their northern counterparts. The largest number on ADC and welfare are Blacks or poor white girls with mixed-race children.

But sure, the relationship between the Affordable Care Act and lower teen pregnancy is circumstantial.
Agreed. That why I thought the story's author was blowing smoke up the ass of a gullible public, or else needed something to write to keep her job.

Never heard of it until I looked it up.
Mine was not a racist or hate comment. Get your head out your high and mighty ass; or roll your eyes some more.

Once again, "investigator" Seth Milner shuns hard science in favor of pop stupidity, sees race as the problem rather than the reality of it being one of poverty and poor education, and uses that to belittle improving access and knowledge. From the article, not that his attention span usually lasts to the final paragraph: "The birth rate is down 'in all 50 states, across racial and ethnic groups, and among both younger and older teens.'"

A perfect description of your article.

sees race as the problem rather than the reality of it being one of poverty and poor education,
No, that's your words. I didn't say race was the "problem"; I included race AS PART OF the problem.

and uses that to belittle improving access and knowledge.
Your full of shit . . again.

From the article, not that his attention span usually lasts to the final paragraph: "The birth rate is down 'in all 50 states, across racial and ethnic groups, and among both younger and older teens."
The gist of my commenting was the "Thanks Obama" part. rstrong initiated the belittling of the Bible Belt class of people, who incidently, are comprised of the groups I mentioned. Once again, Vrede fails second-grade comprehension.

I did no such thing. I merely stated a fact about abstinence-only birth control, one which has been posted here with proper citations several times before. YOU made it about race; blacks and white people in proximity to blacks.

Why you did too! You began by disparaging southerners (the Bible Belt) claiming they were leaders in lack of birth control. I pointed out that 55% of the Black population in the US live in the south, aka Bible Belt. Now you and Cluckmaster counter with that racist bullshit. I didn't realize you two were experts on everything, please continue while I take notes.

Go back to stormfront.
I told you, I've never heard of them. You seem to be very familiar, relatives of yours?

Smoking guns: Trump’s transition appointments signal his plans to attack regulations

... The worry for ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) began when Trump chose as his running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who as a congressional candidate in 2000 wrote on his campaign website “Time for a quick reality check. Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn’t kill.”

Kool, that's gonna be a YUUUGE Obamacare savings even before they move in. Dang, this Trump team is good.

His evidence — that “2 out of every 3 smokers does not die from a smoking related illness” — suggested he was stretching the limits of logic to make his case, although he pointedly stopped well short of saying “that smoking is good for you.” In his career as a congressman, Pence went on to collect tens of thousands of dollars in tobacco industry campaign contributions,

Like a cop taking crack dealer money.

according to the liberal watchdog group ThinkProgress, and to vote against the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009 — a bill that even most Republicans supported.

307-97 in the House, 79-17 in the Senate.

Pence is also the head of Trump’s transition team, which includes Cindy Hayden, a lobbyist for the Altria Group, the parent company of Philip Morris.

What, they didn't get rid of the lobbyists?

Hayden heads the Homeland Security team, an appointment presumably owing less to her tobacco industry experience than to her role in killing immigration reform bills as chief counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

And then there is Myron Ebell of the right-wing think tank Competitive Enterprise Institute, who heads the transition for the Environmental Protection Agency, and who, according to this profile by Jeremy Symons of the Environmental Defense Fund, was part of a tobacco-industry-funded effort in the 1990s to make cigarette regulations “politically unpalatable.”

What's harder to make look good, cigarettes or Trump?

Personally, I'd rather be the PR man for a fresh, steaming pile pile of dog shit; it's a much easier sell.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.

The petition to Senate Democrats reads:

"Do everything in your power to block Rep. Tom Price’s confirmation as Department of Health and Human Services secretary and protect access to health care for women, LGBTQ people, seniors, low-income families and more than 100 million people who rely on federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid.”

Obama says Sanders' supporters helped undermine Obamacare

Pffft, we thought it was a rotten gift to the insurance companies in 2009-10, well before we were paying attention to Bernie's opinion of it, and we saw that Senate Dems wouldn't even allow testimony on single payer while Obama let them get away with it. Obama and the Dems helped undermine the healthcare we need.

Plus, Bernie would have beaten Trump but the DNC and establishment Dems undermined him, thus removing the best way to protect Obamacare's gains.

75% of Americans don’t want Obamacare repealed without an alternative
