The MAGA-verse could be on the brink of exploding into an all-encompassing constitutional crisis, with Donald Trump’s own inauguration as possible collateral.

The incoming Congress is scheduled to start on Jan. 3, but following a bruising pre-Christmas battle to keep the government open, Republican lawmakers—including president-elect Trump—have turned on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Without a speaker, the House of Representatives could become paralyzed and be unable to certify Trump’s re-election victory, plunging the Capitol and the country into political chaos.

After that, nobody knows what would happen. So, how could things play out?

When the very act of negotiating with/cooperating with members of the other party is grounds for excommunication, you've got a long rocky hill to get anything much done.

Sure Trump twisted arms, but also likely even the densest congresscritter realized that stalling the process and delaying certification of the election served no one well, except Dems. But still, they were rewarded for the obstruction with a list of blather so there's little incentive for them to be more cooperative in future votes. It's gonna be "you need my vote, and it's gonna cost you" every bill that comes up.

You must admit sanity prevailed in this situation. Time will tell about future legislation. If Trump and Johnson remained aligned I expect a lot of legislation will come out of the House. We shall see what happens when it gets to the Senate. I don't know how Thune will do, but I am glad McConnell is no longer Leader.

I must admit no such thing. While I agree the correct political move was to keep Johnson, warts and all, I'd say it falls more along the line of a broken clock being right twice a day or even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

As you insinuated, this vote is to allow the House to certify trump on January 6 more than anything. The thirty odd members that detest Johnson for reaching across the aisle to keep the government open twice haven't changed their spots. They've showed no inclination to compromise on spending in the past no matter who they hurt. I see no reason to think that will change, even with trump who they have bucked previously on budget matters.
