But, but the fiction and nonfiction forensics TV shows tell me that it's a slam dunk.

So one could make the argument that even if they got the right guy, the prosecution didn't really prove their case because of questionable evidence. But defense gave it their best shot at discrediting the tool matching and the jury rejected it. The standard is "beyond reasonable doubt", not "beyond any possible shadow of a doubt."

I've seen people convicted on "Dateline" (admittedly heavily edited), on way less evidence.

I'm more interested in the questionable science in general than I am the particular case.

Escambia cops fired off fifty or eighty something shots at a non-violent distraught man who had his gun in his mouth. It happened shortly after school let out. Shots came from all directions from cops who had surrounded the vehicle and were found in the walls of two of the three hangout fast food restaurants at the intersection.

I could be wrong, but the negligent cops injury decription sure sounds like an - Oh I hurt my back - type of fake injury.

Could be, he's certainly asshole enough, but the wreck was also severe enough to cause real and permanent injury. The silver lining is that he'll never be a cop again whether the disability is real or fake.

Ex-Weirton cop sues city after being fired

... Williams’ family said through their lawyer Tuesday that they support Mader.

“We thank him for trying to do the right thing,” said Jack Dolance, a Wayne County lawyer who was hired by Williams’ parents after their son’s death. “We’re happy he could be there with R.J. that night, since his family couldn’t be. R.J. had someone there who was talking to him, as a human, not a suspect.”

I don't see anything at the Charleston Gazette-Mail or the ACLU about the family also suing. Might be too hard to win given that Williams was armed.

Suit: Homeless man jailed after trying to eat at Burger King

Emory Ellis, a black homeless man in Boston, was hungry so he went to Burger King one morning in 2015. But instead of breakfast, Ellis got a ride to the police station and more than three months in jail after he was wrongfully accused of using counterfeit cash, he says....

Ellis was arrested in November 2015 and charged with forgery of a bank note. His arrest triggered a probation violation and he was held without bail until his final probation violation hearing, according to the lawsuit.

He wasn't released from jail until February 2016, when prosecutors dropped the forgery charge after the Secret Service concluded Ellis' bill was real, the lawsuit says.

Ellis, 37, never got his money back, the lawsuit says....

No one expects Burger King clerks to be the sharpest tacks in the box, so I'm not sure his suit against it will go anywhere. Otoh, the cops owe him whatever is fair for 3 months false imprisonment.

There are no mulligans when an officer spits on the 1st Amendment and advocates violent terrorism, period. Brian Valenti must be immediately fired and charged.
