I read the dead mom was driving 25 in a 25 zone, but in an area that most people exceeded the speed limit. But apparently she was the initial hold-up even though that doesn't excuse the shooters actions.

Re: Gun Legislation
Yeah, I saw a photo of the guy they arrested. He had no shirt on in the photo and looks awfully white to be living in Las Vegas. Maybe they got the right guy; the one who spends all his time driving around looking for a wrangle on the road, avoiding the rays of the sun. Or he could just be a vampire and was shocked and surprised to be rousted up in the daylight.....he was looking down as if to avoid bright light.Vrede wrote:They caught the other driver at home about 1 block away, not know yet whether he was the shooter.
Comments:While it is sad that this woman died, it is unfortunate that her son and daughter will be able to contribute this rich genetic heritage to the species.

"She was a local Republican official, [...] The obituary also describes Bond as having been "on fire for the lord","
Some times I wonder if the gun culture is actually a long-term left-wing conspiracy to suppress any hereditary propensity toward the Republican Christian right.A celibate clergy is an especially good idea, because it tends to suppress any hereditary propensity toward fanaticism.

So....which of you Upstaters is named Ryan Rucker?...... Boatrocker?--billy.pilgrim?--how about it JTA?--sometimes lefty?
FEBRUARY 16--After having her “sexual advances” rejected by her live-in boyfriend, a South Carolina woman allegedly threatened to shoot her beau, cops allege.
Ryan Rucker, 33, was sleeping early yesterday when Michelle Smart, by her own admission,** “attempted to make some sexual advances toward” him, according to a police report detailing the 2 AM incident.
(** Does that mean "smart" by her own admission?
)
Rucker told cops that he pushed the 30-year-old Smart off of him, which prompted an argument during which Smart “told him she would shoot him because she has the gun.” Smart told officers that after Rucker “rejected her and pushed her off of him,” he punched and kicked her multiple times.

(I believe I would have pulled the gun on myself for waking up to that!)
Cops noted that Smart “continually was changing her story throughout the investigation,” adding that, “For these reasons, Ms. Smart’s account became less believable.”
Smart, judged the “primary aggressor” by cops, was arrested for domestic violence since Rucker “feared for his safety when Ms. Smart pulled the gun out and threatened to use it.” Cops seized a Ruger handgun and six bullets, which were placed into evidence.
Seen in the above mug shot, Smart spent about eight hours in custody before bonding out of jail Sunday afternoon on the misdemeanor charge.

Re: Gun Legislation
So here's the range where I shoot around Tampa, the Florida Firearms Academy. http://www.ffatampa.com/
Nice place, good instruction, generally good clientele, knowledgeable sort of gun-lovers. Notice how they encourage training about guns. Notice how they have special ladies days with free range fees. Notice how they have concealed carry license classes. Then notice their rules - all guns coming in have to be unloaded and in some kind of case or bag; no concealed weapons. Anybody else find it ironic that people running a firing range (who are almost surely NRA members) understand that it's not a good idea to let people carry concealed loaded weapons into their place of business? I doubt they expect shoot-outs by "bad guys." It's just a matter of safety. I don't think anybody has introduced legislation to allow loaded concealed weapons in Congress or state houses yet. I wonder why.

Re: Gun Legislation
At the Florida Firearms Academy where I shoot in Tampa, they get a lot of cops in there practicing or just having fun. I wondered, exactly what is the required "qualifying" that cops have to do annually. Just how good with their gun do they have to be. Turns out it varies from state to state, but overall the answer is, "not all that good." Qualifying involves more than just hitting a target most of the time, including handling the firearm, cleaning, etc., but not including anything about not shooting unarmed black people.
In fact, even after all the trouble other organizations have gotten themselves into, most police departments (or their muni government) are not setting a clear delineation between criminal behavior and just bad judgement that can get you fired. Mostly police departments are just defending their work in "protecting and serving" in an environment of great danger and personal risk, despite the data that shows a bodega clerk or cab driver is way more likely to get shot/killed in their job. Most have taken a SYG type approach, saying in effect, "if that beer can looked like a gun to the cop, then shooting the guy was 'justified.'" Now, "Dirty Harry" is more the norm and "Barney" is dead.
I understand the perspective and thought process of the members of the "thin blue line." I just don't understand why the muni governments go along with it despite the risk in PR and litigation they face.

Two police officers shot and hit, fortunately not killed, outside the police department in Ferguson. According to NRA logic, if they had been armed, that shooting would not have occurred because shooters only go to "gun-free zones." Oh, wait.

Another reason life would be better if everyone carried a firearm... http://www.eater.com/2015/3/15/8218841/ ... iser-busch
Guy shoots his friend because the friend brought him the wrong brand of beer. And the funny part is that it was Bud vs. Busch. Getting shot over the difference in horse piss vs. cow piss is pretty tragic.

76-year-old woman dies after being shot, elderly husband charged
Meemaw shoulda hid Peepaw's guns before they sent him home. The police report said that Haney's husband, Clifford Haney, 84, had just returned home Saturday after three months in a care facility, and he was to be put into hospice care at home last Monday.

Re: Gun Legislation
NRA doesn't' allow working guns at its convention. One could say they're smarter than they let on when it comes to limiting ability to shoot up a crowd - or one could say it's just an entertaining example of "all show - no go".
