Re: The Religion Thread
I suspect that what Piper does here is a variation of the Jehovah's Witnesses' door-to-door preaching.
The Witnesses aren't banging on doors on a weekend morning to convert people to their religion. They know that they're going to be dragging people out of bed and getting a hostile reaction from them. They're doing to demonstrate to the younger among them that the rest of the world outside their group is angry and hostile, which is why you need to stick with their group.
Piper wades into an internet forum with his "I interpret God to be @sshole Prime, and all others must kneel before him" schtick, and revels in the obvious reaction. Hostility is what he's looking for, and he's probably saying "You see...?" to someone right now.

Yeah, and the terminology is interesting, too. The bar might have a sign saying "On and Off" referring to whether they sell for on-premises and off-premises. Like ordering your chizsteak wit'. Gotta love PA though. Accurately described as Philly on one side, Pittsburgh on the other side and Alabama in the middle.Boatrocker wrote:Don't suppose it's a blue law, per se, but I found it to be very puzzling that in PA you can't buy a 6-pack of beer anywhere, unless you can find a bar that sells package (for more than a 12 pack costs around here). You otherwise have to buy a whole damn case from a distributor. Guess who else has some friends in the statehouse.O Really wrote:Having lived in Pennsylvania, which has some of the weirdest blue laws in the country, I thought you guys might like a break from serious religion talk with this somewhat dated but still pretty accurate article on blue laws in the Keystone state.... http://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate ... unday5.asp

You're quite right; but you proved yourself what you are; did you see yourself as the "@sshole Prime"? I don't have to "look" for hostility, my friend; it's everywhere.rstrong wrote:I suspect that what Piper does here is a variation of the Jehovah's Witnesses' door-to-door preaching.

Re: The Religion Thread
I'd say you pretty much have to look for it to find it "everywhere." Assuming the "hostility" to come from those without a religion, then the 15% or so of people in the US saying that are really working hard at making the lives of the 85% miserable. Or maybe the "hostility" is coming from fellow believers, possibly even from some of the same beliefs. And then some "hostility" is neither found nor promulgated by non-believers, but created out of the fertile imaginations of some sects. Like the "war on Christmas" and "it's illegal to pray in schools" etc.The Piper wrote: You're quite right; but you proved yourself what you are; did you see yourself as the "@sshole Prime"? As already pointed out, homerfobe stigmatizes, to be polite about it, a whole
group of people simply for what they are, not for what their beliefs are. I am
simply stating that I find supernaturalism of all types to be nonsensical. Two
different levels of discourse.
It's not a gang, it's a club.

You're in good company, even those that believe in supernaturalism also find other types of supernaturalism that they aren't particularly subscribed to be nonsensical.

That's why I wrote on the other thread about Billy Graham getting questions
about astrology and ghosts and other paranormal things. Yeah, how could
anybody believe in stuff like that. How indeed. To each their own I suppose.

I don't apppreciate being lumped with a bunch of fag lovers, but I admit you pissed them them off royally by showing them exactly what they are and that they're no better than me.The Man who wears a dress wrote: I wasn't whining, nor was my post intended to poke at Banni's (or anyone else's) disbeliefs; rather to point out the scale of hatefulness directed to religion in the same manner that Homerfobe directs his hateful spiel towards homosexuality.... Probably go to an all night pharmacy or to an ER with all the consequent hassle. In Canada the latter would have cost the taxpayers, in the US it would have cost him hundreds of dollars or more.
Do you reply for all your also-rans?
Why do you think religion should restrict business/customer choices and force kids to suffer needlessly, homerfobe?
I don't think much of religion anyway; besides, what did people do before they got their asses in a wad and blamed their pissy little whines on religion? Oh yeah, according to rstrongsmell, they died. Oh well, win some, lose some. Who's going to live forever?
Would you support it if a secular government deemed that people could not gather to worship on a particular day of the week?
Do you think I care? They would manage, besides, I've got my rod and reels, and my tackle ain't buried in some idiots face.

Re: The Religion Thread
I'd like to join you on that soapbox, particularly since I had lived in NC for four years before I knew beer/wine sales were restricted on Sunday morning - then got surprised when I went to pick up game day supplies. I suspected some religious group of some sort was behind that. But - nevertheless, many store closings are no longer because of the religious people, but because the retailers got used to having a day off without their competitors being open. I don' t know about rstrong's pharmacy, but in the US, most "blue laws" would likely be overturned if challenged. It's just that the retailers like it and everybody else pretty much goes along.Vrede wrote: Why do you think religion should restrict business/customer choices and force kids to suffer needlessly, homerfobe? Maybe a better analogy might be what if some other religious cult limited retail openings on, say, Fridays.

Blue laws are pretty much a dead issue. people like rstrongsmell think stores should be open 25 hours a day, 8 days a week just so he gets what he wants, to hell with anyone else. People get sick all the time, bfd.

LGBTs, atheists, and Wiccans could have a field day with that notion.

Re: The Religion Thread
I now live in a different city, and here we have pharmacies that are open 7 days a week, some of them 24 hours a day. It has not caused problems, and it's created jobs.homerfobe wrote: people like rstrongsmell think stores should be open 25 hours a day, 8 days a week just so he gets what he wants, to hell with anyone else. No laws order them to remain open, nor does anyone demand it. But likewise, no psychotic @sshole orders them to close claiming that their invisible sky fairie ordered it.
If a store isn't open on a given day because it would be impractical to do so, that's acceptable. But when they CAN open, want to open, but can't because some cult gets their jollies ordering others around, that's not acceptable.
Sorry that you're too damned stupid to get the point.

If it's consensual when you slam them, then I wouldn't say you were a bad boy for that. I'd say you were a bad boy for being so hypocritical about it.homerfobe wrote:. . . If I'm a bad boy for slamming queers, faggots . . . .
But who slams who and who lets who slam them is none of our business, as long as they are consenting adult slammers and slammees.
