For better or worse vax mandates are a public school health mandate, not a public health mandate. We have no mechanism for the latter and the only mechanism for the former is denial of access. The effect of this is negated by access to 'school choice' money.

Yeah, the fine is a bit of fantasy. But I do think they shouldn't be allowed in school, and no refund or voucher for anywhere else. If they want to endanger their kid, and others, let them do it on their own dime.

A problem with vouchers is we don't know why parents want them. If they're refused for antivaxxers they'll just give another excuse.

In my somewhat dated experience serving a semi-rural population at Transylvania Regional Hospital Medicaid cuts would be a crushing blow to the 86.53% White non-Latino people. They are 55-43 Republican. TRH will only remain open if Mission Health System wants to massively subsidize it. Many nursing homes and other senior care facilities would be forced to close.

I don't think these people really even know how the services they use are paid for. They just assumed it's always been the case that the money is gonna roll in. By some magic the services are just there and always have been and always will be. Having grown up in a shit hole economically depressed area, a lot of times they're overly concerned about some "others" that are undeserving for "reasons" getting a piece of the pie. They don't think it's themselves that are benefiting. But in reality it absolutely is.

Then, there are all the people who benefit despite not getting direct benefits. If, for example, Transylvania Regional Hospital was shuttered because of Medicaid cuts, everyone in the area would suffer - the elderly on Medicare, those with private insurance, people that pay their own medical bills, etc. Too bad, drive to Asheville or Hooterville.

Hell, advising someone not to die is a good thing to do. But telling them that if they do die, they'll maybe be lost or put on the Red 22A shelf for a year at least. I'd be motivated to not be a shelf mummy.

One of the supporters of the bill is a doctor who was very upset that they were asked for their pronouns.

In a worst case scenario you could be denied care to the point of risking turning you into a shelf mummy.

That said, it would have been interesting to deny care to bigots, MAGA, GQP and RW xtians, and have the state then support my choice People like me are a reason to oppose such legislation. We don't need or deserve the temptation.

Hell, I would not be surprised if TN passed a law that says you have to show ID to buy bread or eggs. Just to suck up to dear leader. But I've never been one to seek medical care unless I think I'm going to die. I drove over twenty miles to work one day, knowing all along something was wrong with me, and two hours later I was being driven to the hospital in an ambulance after the fire department came to the office. They said my blood pressure was 200 and something over 100 and something. Five days later I came out bruised and battered.
