Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

As someone who for years recorded work done in .6 hour increments, I think I'm more than qualified to say that the whole "what did you accomplish" question is total bullshit. A lot, likely a majority, of jobs don't fit in that little box. F'rinstance, your whole week might have been "reviewed and processed tax returns" or "answered and handled x number of calls to the call center." Now productivity and performance of those jobs can be measured in terms of number handled, errors, etc., but they really don't "accomplish" anything other than doing their jobs as assigned. It also doesn't work for people who work on a longer completion horizon. They might endlessly grind numbers for "nothing" for weeks and then "accomplish" a significant conclusion.

Remember when Hillary was lambasted so badly for months (years?) over her server? B-b-b-but what amount the emails? And Musk is using his own X for quasi-official communications.

When musk took over Twitter, one of the metrics he used to judge productivity of engineers was lines of code written. Well engineered, elegant, code typically requires less lines. Hack jobs and difficult to maintain code typically has a lot of duplicate and poorly written code resulting in many more lines.

The dude is a moron in many ways.

DOGE Staffers Resign After Being Asked To Dismantle ‘Critical Public Services’
All who resigned had previously held senior roles at tech companies like Google and Amazon.

More than 20 civil service employees resigned Tuesday from billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, saying they were refusing to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the 21 staffers wrote in a joint resignation letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”

The employees also warned that many of those enlisted by Musk to help him slash the size of the federal government under President Donald Trump’s administration were political ideologues who did not have the necessary skills or experience for the task ahead of them....

All had previously held senior roles at such tech companies as Google and Amazon and wrote in their resignation letter that they joined the government out of a sense of duty to public service....

Earlier this month, about 40 staffers in the office were laid off. The firings dealt a devastating blow to the government’s ability to administer and safeguard its own technological footprint, they wrote.

“These highly skilled civil servants were working to modernize Social Security, veterans’ services, tax filing, health care, disaster relief, student aid, and other critical services,” the resignation letter states. “Their removal endangers millions of Americans who rely on these services every day. The sudden loss of their technology expertise makes critical systems and American’s data less safe.”

Those who remained, about 65 staffers, were integrated into DOGE’s government-slashing effort. About a third of them quit Tuesday in masse.

“We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services,” they wrote. “We will not lend our expertise to carry out or legitimize DOGE’s actions.”...

A lot (most?) big idea creative "visionary" people are worthless in details and operations. RFK quoted "Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?" Sounds good, except sometimes there may actually be an answer to "why not".

I think the shortage of controllers is taking its toll. I am not an aviator, but clearly there was a lack of communication. Also, the pilot of the private plane has some explaining to do.

To be fair, the shortage predates DonOLD and his more recent firings. However, no one in their right mind would want to be a new hire anywhere in the federal government knowing how DOGE has treated probationers. Good luck alleviating the shortage.

That said, it's not all doom and gloom:
Judge indefinitely blocks Trump’s plan to freeze federal aid

... U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan enjoined the government from “implementing, giving effect to, or reinstating under a different name” the White House budget office’s directive to freeze federal assistance while the court reviews the spending.

“In the simplest terms, the freeze was ill-conceived from the beginning,” AliKhan wrote. “Defendants either wanted to pause up to $3 trillion in federal spending practically overnight, or they expected each federal agency to review every single one of its grants, loans, and funds for compliance in less than twenty-four hours. The breadth of that command is almost unfathomable.”

... “Many organizations had to resort to desperate measures just to stay operational,” AliKhan wrote. “The pause placed critical programs for children, the elderly, and everyone in between in serious jeopardy. Because the public’s interest in not having trillions of dollars arbitrarily frozen cannot be overstated, Plaintiffs have more than met their burden here.”

... After the (OMB) memo was rescinded, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt cautioned on social media that the administration’s rescission only referred to the memo itself, not the entire freeze, spurring more confusion....

A coalition of Democratic state attorneys general, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), took legal action against the White House budget office over the directive.

In that lawsuit, a different federal judge ordered the government to unfreeze federal grants, and after finding the administration had not abided by his directive, ordered compliance. He cited Leavitt’s post as evidence the reversal was “in name only.” The Justice Department appealed those rulings....

Yup.

That's judicial, as for political:
Republicans who got an earful from constituents have message for Trump and DOGE

After facing angry questions from constituents at a town hall last week, Georgia Republican Rep. Rich McCormick is back on Capitol Hill with a new message for Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency: Show a little compassion.

McCormick faced 'boos" as he fielded questions from furious constituents in his suburban Atlanta district.

"People are concerned about what DOGE is, what it can do, what its powers are, if they're overstepping the law. They're concerned about the rapidity of the moves and people losing their benefits," McCormick said....

Oops! Trump Accidentally Fired FDA Medical Device Reviewers
The Food and Drug Administration is scrambling to bring back hundreds of critical workers laid off en masse by DOGE.

Turns out people want to know their pacemaker won’t accidentally kill them.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is scrambling to rehire some of the roughly 700 employees who were laid off en masse by the Trump administration earlier this month, with a particular emphasis on the more than 220 people in the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

Staffers at the unit are responsible for reviewing and approving medical devices like X-ray machines, surgical implants, pacemakers, heart pumps, ventilators and numerous other types of critical medical equipment.
 POTUS Musk tried to kill granny.
... Sources familiar with the mass firings told the industry publication BioPharma Dive that “most, if not all” of the employees are being asked to return to their jobs....

Medical device manufacturers benefit when scientists on staff at the CDRH can approve their products quickly. More than half of the program’s $791 million annual budget is paid for by private companies in the industry.

As a result, the mass layoffs ordered by the “Department of Government Efficiency” didn’t actually contribute much to the agency’s bottom line.
 I hate when that happens.
... DOGE, at the behest of billionaire Elon Musk, fired and then was forced to rehire people who manage the nuclear stockpile, scientists working on containing avian flu, military veterans who run a national crisis line, the people who oversee America’s hugely popular national parks, the people who run the health program for first responders injured during the 9/11 attacks, and people who run a federal power plant that provides power in the Pacific Northwest....
"Efficiency”?

Musk Makes Big Mistake While Trying to Smear CNN Legal Analyst Norm Eisen

Elon Musk falsely accused prominent lawyer and CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen of leading a “crime family” after he discovered a woman with the same last name who worked for an organization that accepted funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The only problem? The woman, Tamar Eisen, is of no relation to Norm Eisen....

Judge Says Mass Firings Of Federal Workers Were Likely Illegal
The judge ordered the Office of Personnel Management to inform certain federal agencies that it had no authority to order the firings of probationary employees.

A federal judge in San Francisco on Thursday found that the mass firings of probationary employees were likely unlawful, granting temporary relief to a coalition of labor unions and organizations that has sued to stop the Trump administration’s massive dismantling of the federal workforce.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup ordered the Office of Personnel Management to inform certain federal agencies that it had no authority to order the firings of probationary employees, including at the Department of Defense.

“OPM does not have any authority whatsoever, under any statute in the history of the universe,” to hire or fire any employees but its own, Alsup said.

The complaint filed by five labor unions and five nonprofit organizations is among multiple lawsuits pushing back on the administration’s efforts to shrink a workforce that Trump has called bloated and sloppy. Thousands of probationary employees have already been fired, and his administration is now aiming at career officials with civil service protection.
"history of the universe"
Elon Musk has led the purge through the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, roiling the workforce with demands including a Saturday email sent through the personnel office ordering workers to list five things they did last week or risk getting fired. The Office of Personnel Management later said that the edict was voluntary, although workers could face similar requests in the future.
Opps.
... “Probationary employees are the lifeblood of our government,” he said, adding that they are younger employees who work their way up....
