Yeah, but their doctors and hospitals and insurance companies lose out on millions in profits - it’s communism I say, pure and simple antidemocratic uncapitatism.
I don't understand. In theory, doctors and hospitals profit from severe COVID-19 infections, but insurance companies lose out.
Sarcasm
And you aren’t understanding how insurance companies get rate increases.
Prior to aca their 30% profits were guaranteed. Now it’s more like 10 or 15%, but the profit is guaranteed over and above expenses.
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

I knew that it was sarcasm, but it still seemed contradictory. I see your point about insurance company profits, though.
I'm going to my pharmacy tomorrow. I'll get my flu shot, too.
Haven't had a vaccine in a couple of years, think I've had six shots total.
Don't know yet about paxlovid, I've got a couple of days and I do worry about the rebound effect.
Was running about a 101° fever earlier tonight, aspirin and advil seem to have brought it down to 100° for the moment. That, fever fatigue, a small headache and alternating chills and sweats are my symptoms.
What I'm really worried about is my 91 year old mother, I was in the car with her with the windows up for about a half hour yesterday.
Eamus Catuli~AC 000000000101010202020303010304 020405....Ahhhh, forget it, it's gonna be a while.

There was an updated vaccine available last Fall. Her MD probably made sure she was current, though you should try and make sure she gets this year's shot tomorrow unless she's already ill. I'm not sure if Paxlovid is given prophylactically. Might want to talk with her MD.

Yeah, I'll be making phone calls and sending emails tomorrow.

Years ago you told me that you did the same as I had - moving to take care of mom. Then, you never mentioned her. I'm happy for you that she's still alive at 91, and still able to join you on errands or whatever. Mine died in 2011 at 80.

Sorry for you loss.
I was actually moving her from the hospital to rehab.
This has been the worst year ever for her and my family. I think I mentioned my uncle had ALS back in the spring, he made the decision not to go on in May, which I get and respect. The onset of symptoms to acute was very, very fast by ALS standards.
Unfortunately his wife, my aunt, my mom's sister did not take it at all well and is essentially dying of a broken heart, she just entered hospice. She has treatable health issues but is refusing treatment as well as food. It's a bit of a weird dynamic, there's 17 years between my mom and her sister and my mom had my sister at 19. So my sister and my aunt are more like sisters and my mom's mom died when my aunt was 11 and my mom was 28, so there's a mother aspect there. We haven't told my mom about her sister yet. My sister is in NC now. I'm afraid the news is going to break my mom.
The icing on the cake is my mom just lost her best friend of 83 years about three weeks ago.

Gee, that all sucks. Sorry.
I hate to be a bummer when you're sick, but you should tell rehab that your mom was exposed to Covid. They probably have a protocol for that.
... However, Smith says that if you had COVID this summer, you may want to wait until three months have passed since your infection to get vaccinated. By getting COVID, “basically you just got boosted,” he says. “Instead of getting your immune system trained by the vaccine, it got trained by the real thing.”...
Yesterday no fever during the day but stuffy head and scratchy throat and very fatigued.
At 7:15 last night, almost exactly 24 hours from the onset of original symptoms I got the chills again and the fever spiked to 101° again. Advil and aspirin seemed to control it again and the fever was down to 100° by midnight.
Wash, rinse, repeat today, low grade fever. There's naps in my future.

They were amazingly un reactive to news of a direct exposure. My bro in law went over yesterday and he was surprised. They give vaccinated employees the option to not mask. He said maybe half were masked. We are making mom mask to protect others, she's not overly happy and probably not doing it when we're not there.

How are you feeling?
Flu like.
If I hadn't tested positive I'd think it was a flu.

In October, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that high-risk adults get a second updated Covid vaccine to bolster their protection against the virus.
The agency now recommends that people ages 65 and up and those with weakened immune systems get a second dose of the 2024-25 vaccine six months after their first dose....
It's nice that Medicare pays for it and my local pharmacist does jabs, but I'd hoped we'd gotten it down to once a year. Okay, March.
