Always a great read no matter which way the wind may be blowing (for me right now, however, it's from the North thanks to Sandy ... stay safe y'all!)

I'm guessing it will be November 7. If he shows up at all.Vrede wrote: Well?

The worst was Big Ugly.
Colonel Taylor was the wisest of the cons.
I was the worst of the lefties.
If FL goes for Mitten Banni won by picking Nate Silver at the right time.
If FL goes for Obama Mike won by picking Nate Silver at the right time, but he was still too pessimistic by 26 electoral votes.
Guess I've never told you ...Vrede wrote:mike wrote:...BTW, open letter referenced in Vrede's post, signed by me.I can't remember the last time, if ever, in all these years of linking petitions that someone has said that.

I think the voter suppression idiocy may have backfired, too. There were people in south Florida standing in line for up to seven hours to vote.Vrede wrote:Did SuperPAC Money Hurt Romney More Than It Helped?
Not that I've weakened my views about overturning Citizens United, but it's pretty cool that Mitten, Rove, the GOP and a bunch of fat cat cons are the victims of it, and that the biggest beneficiary is the "liberal" media.
I wouldn't put to much stock in that. After all, in 1971 the Motor Trend Car of the Year was therstrong wrote:Speaking of election related predictions:
The Tesla Model S, the electric car branded a "loser" by Mitt Romney, was also just branded the Motor Trend Car of the Year.
The Vega was a piece of crap, fershure - but it was also pretty innovative when it came out. Sleek styling for the time, aluminum block engine, yada. I'm happy I never owned one, but they looked pretty cool at first. If you bought one and only kept it a year or so, you probably would have like it. Then came the problems in subsequent years and it would have rusted away from around you just before its engine melted.Wneglia wrote:I wouldn't put to much stock in that. Chevy Vega
In general, pretty good. I think the Vega and Volt are outliers.Vrede wrote:Other than 1971, what's the track record of Motor Trend Cars of the Year?
That particular Citroen was a decent, innovative car.O Really wrote:Or....maybe not. http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/car ... r_winners/
This list included the Rambler in 63, Citroen in 72, the Mustang II in 74, the Monza in 75, K-Cars in 81, and some other really questionable ones - looking with the wisdom of hindsight. Of course, there weren't all that many good choices - at least among what used to be called Detroit Iron - back in the 70's. It was all pretty much junk.

It was either the 59 or 60 Corvair that was the subject of Nader's book "Unsafe at Any Speed," but by the time the book came out they had long since fixed the suspension issues (62) and the cars handled pretty well. It's funny to see one running around now, though - pretty clunky looking compared to how "sleek" the coupes and ragtops were back then.Vrede wrote:I had a Ford Taurus, but not the LX. Decent car except the transmissions didn't last though there's no way Motor Trend could have known that would be the case. There are differing opinions on the 1960 Chevrolet Corvair, and there are way too few foreign cars. At least they didn't select the Gremlin or Pinto.

My grandmother had a '65 Corvair (long before I had my '65 'Vette) and it was a great car.O Really wrote:It was either the 59 or 60 Corvair that was the subject of Nader's book "Unsafe at Any Speed," but by the time the book came out they had long since fixed the suspension issues (62) and the cars handled pretty well.
