Will republicans use the Coronavirus in another of their socialism for the rich scams?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Why no talk of them being arrested?

I know more evidence is needed beforean actual arrest, but a little talk would sure put some distance to the idea that senators don't have to follow the law.
Trying to give a nonpartisan answer, don't expect it often :D -

Insider trading is difficult to prove, even when results make it obvious what occurred. One would hope that the SEC and other authorities will investigate, but that will take awhile. In normal times Senate ethics investigation, rebuke and even expulsion, all with a lower hurdle to scale than criminal conviction might be more likely, but with this Repug Senate who knows?

Gaetz speaking out so early is a bit of a hopeful sign, not because anyone respects him but rather because it might indicate other outraged Repugs.

I would think that telling friends and donors on tape to take extreme measures, selling his own stock and then telling the citizens that it's no big deal speaks clearly about his motive.

As far as I know, nobody was ever convicted of insider trading without someone else involved in it being given immunity to testify to what happened. Isn't that how Martha Stewart was convicted?

I believe that you are correct.

Wonder how the 2 senators would fare before a jury after watching their savings disappear.

As a juror in this case. I would not be very sympathetic. And from the ABC and CBS news stories I've seen about this, both these Senators say they are not "directly involved" in sales or purchases of stock but instead rely on "advisers" to make those decisions. I do not believe this for one second. If someone other than me decided out of the blue to sell 2 or 3 million dollars of stock I owned without me knowing about it, I would not like it. And the Senator's explanations make no sense. How would a financial adviser be more informed about the spread of a new and unknown virus than members of the US National Security Council or Senate members of the Intelligence committee? More likely this is what happened; Dick Burr (it hurts) was briefed on this coming crisis, soon thereafter he called his stock broker and told him to sell certain stocks, then Dick Burr (ow!) told his friends and a few other Senators, which caused them to sell also. Guilty. Thirty days in the electric chair.

I agree. I would lock at least Burr and the Loefflers up based on what we already know. I'm just saying that criminal prosecutions and ethics inquiries take a bit more rigor than I would apply. We want it done right. Inapt "exoneration" would be terrible.

Very possible unless they are somehow truly innocent are resignations, and those could still happen even if they are magically somehow innocent.

I also condemn all the ones that downplayed the peril, whether their portfolios benefited or not.

To be honest, idk if he's committed to bailouts for Big Oil and the fossil fuel industry. Wouldn't surprise me a bit, but I think it's possible that he's still open to influence on the issue.

I'm sure it's apparent by now that Trump is open to influence only in regard to what benefits him. And sometimes, not even that. For example, if he took a back seat to the experts on Coronavirus, he could look like a leader who had assembled a good and competent team. But no - he has to be out front making an idiot of himself, until something goes wrong and then he's there to cast blame. Now, if you could get him thinking that Obama supports and gave bailouts to Big Oil and the fossil fuel industry...

Maybe the petition could be, "Tell Trump what a great job Obama did in bailing out Big Oil and fossil fuels."

Pick your fav or sign them all:
Tell Congress:

With the economy quickly contracting, we need rapid, massive federal stimulus to help offset millions of job losses in the coming months. We need Congress to pass a comprehensive series of stimulus packages to mitigate (or reduce) job losses, boost recovery, and help ensure America’s working families can make ends meet. The stimulus should be well-targeted and not squandered on unconditional giveaways to business that don’t spur the needed growth.
Write to your members of Congress: We need a comprehensive legislative package to combat COVID-19.

... Senate Republicans have drafted a plan that helps business, while failing to provide enough protections for workers, and gives little or no aid to people who need help the most.

Write to your members of Congress now, calling for the swift passage of a next round of legislation to avert economic disaster including increasing federal Medicaid payment to states, providing more nutrition assistance, ensuring more workers have paid leave, expanding unemployment insurance, preventing evictions, and making sure people with disabilities can get the medications and care they need.
To: President Trump, Vice President Pence and Members of the 116th Congress
Poverty Amidst Pandemic: A Moral Response to COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us into an unprecedented national emergency. This emergency, however, results from a deeper and much longer-term crisis - that of poverty and inequality and of a society that ignores the needs of 140 million people who are poor or a $400 emergency away from being poor.

These millions of people are in dire need of critical attention immediately. We call on you to fulfill your moral and Constitutional responsibilities: expand the COVID-19 emergency provisions to care for us all and enact our Moral Agenda immediately....

I can see a need going forward for mass marches and demonstrations against Trump. The virus pandemic will unfortunately provide a cover for such actions to be declared illegal. But good Americans simply cannot allow this fool to remain in office.

I don't know, even 10,000 people wearing masks and groves walking 10 feet apart would stretch 33,300 ft. (6 miles) on a two lane road with 3 abreast.

Great theater

Or a vehicle march

Plans need to be creative.

To: Senate Ethics Committee, Department of Justice, & Securities and Exchange Commission

Any senator who used insider knowledge to make a profit off the coronavirus crisis has no right to hold office. Sen. Richard Burr and other senators who sold off stocks -- while publicly downplaying the threat of COVID-19 -- must be investigated and held accountable.

To: The United States Congress
Investigate the Trump Administration's Coronavirus Corruption and Mismanagement
Congress must step in and investigate how Donald Trump’s loyalty to corporate CEOs over working families is putting lives at risk during the coronavirus outbreak.

Why is this important?

... As holder of the highest office in the land, Donald Trump should be doing whatever he can to ensure public health. But he's done just the opposite: Instead of looking out for our safety, Trump has consistently prioritized protecting corporate profits over fighting the outbreak.

The number of missteps and the level of corruption in the administration's coronavirus response are staggering. From hiring a drug company executive and medicine price gouger as Secretary of Health and Human Services, to resisting making treatments affordable, Trump is looking out for the bottom line of corporations, not public health.

Enough is enough. Congress must step in and investigate how Donald Trump’s loyalty to corporate CEOs over working families is putting lives at risk.

Here's just some of what we've learned over the past couple of weeks:

First, The Washington Post reported that Trump's main concern has been the falling stock market. He's even urged his aides not to make any comments that might negatively impact stocks--potentially causing top officials to withhold critical information from the public.

Then, Trump's appointed secretary of health and human services, Alex Azar—a former pharma executive—refused to commit to compelling pharmaceutical companies to ensure that any future vaccine would be affordable. Azar has a history of price gouging: While he was president of Eli Lily, the cost of the company's life saving insulin drug tripled.

Now, reports show that the coronavirus funding package was actually a giant giveaway to drug companies, which failed to guarantee fair pricing for new treatments.

Just as he’s done time and time again, Trump is showing whose side he’s really on—that of corporations and the wealthy—and once again, it’s having a potentially devastating impact on people and families across the country.

And what we know publicly so far could just be the tip of the iceberg. Given Trump's record, it's likely that there's even more corruption and mismanagement waiting to be uncovered.

Congress has the opportunity to publicly expose all of this, but it may not happen if we don’t urge them to take action. Sign the petition and demand that Congress investigate Trump’s botched coronavirus response.

Stop Big Pharma from price gouging on the coronavirus
Petition to HHS Secretary Azar

I know, I know, Alex Azar IS Big Pharma. Still, no harm in letting the fox know that we see him in the hen house. It might scare him away some of the time.
