Trayvon Martin

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Think the prosecutor doesn't know what she's doing? There are a couple of jurors - maybe more - who are gun owners. She's got testimony about the type of gun Zimmerman had, which is designed for rapid use and carrying "hot". This guy is so (rightfully) screwed. Wait for it, Bubba - new meat's on the way!

My son is a litigator. His response to the joke: "What was that idiot thinking?"

I don't know anything about the jury except that it's 6 women, and I don't know who any of the jurors are. I do know the prosecutor to be very good. I see the defense team (so far) is surprisingly awkward. I know who owned the gun; I know who got out of the car; I know who is dead. Oh Georgie...Bubba requests a meeting with you in his cell....

It's not just that the joke was bad and in poor taste but his delivery makes me wonder if he's ever told a joke before, or even heard one being told.

Watched the proceedings today on CNN. I just don't see self-defense. Just don't see it. Prediction: there will be a plea before the trial is over.

Lawyering is easy.

Yeah, Zimmerman wants to start the clock at the point Martin hit him (assuming he did). He'd like to ignore anything before. Even if Florida, you can't start a fight and then claim self defense when you're getting your ass kicked.

I don't think they're going to let him plead at this point. They undoubtedly gave him a plea chance earlier on, but now that it's gone to trial and the defense looks weak, I think pleas are off the table.

The neighborhood witness is not helping anyone in my estimation.

Something in the back of my mind remembers hearing something about a plea deal not approved by the Martin family. Did I hear that? Anyone?

I didn't hear that they got a vote, but Zimmerman's team has consistently said they won't take a deal. Whether they'll change their mind as the trial goes along, I don't know, but if the trial is going well for the prosecution, after investing all this time and money, I don't know that they would offer. If it were me (and all I know about criminal law is what I learned on TV), I'd probably not. They have little to gain except a residual perception that their case was too weak to win with a jury.

10-20-Life. He should be looking at an automatic life sentence.

In the interest of the greater good I hope he is convicted, even if not guilty.

BTW there is no such sentence as life, as he will be executed shortly after entering prison.

In this instance, "guilty" or "not guilty" is a legal technicality. It is not at issue whether or not he shot and killed Martin. I agree with you that the greater good is served if he's convicted of something, even involuntary manslaughter.

Those predictions aside, do you think he's guilty?

By a black for being racist, by a Hispanic for bringing discredit upon them, or by a gunhugger for hurting their cause? :D
Criminally negligent manslaughter, probably. Second degree murder, doubtful.

Everybody is all atwitter that the witness said Martin was on top beating on Zimmerman. Don't forget - that was a prosecution witness. They knew what he was going to say, and they put him on the stand. But with that testimony out now, they'll be coming along with the others, like the dispatcher, who'll paint a longer timeline than just the alledged fight itself. Even in Florida, you can't start a fight and then claim self-defense.

I've said all along that Zimmerman will die in prison, probably as a result of "retaliation" from an ill informed but well intentioned black guy. We'll wait....

Neither is Trayvon Martin; you know the innocent-looking 13 y.o. the news media is throwing in everyone's face.
