Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Founder of neo-Nazi website should pay Jewish woman $14m for unleashing antisemitic 'troll storm' on her, judge rules

:---P

The federal magistrate is Jeremiah Lynch. Ironic that Nazi Christian Andrew Anglin just got righteously 'Lynched'.

 At one point the article inadvertently (I assume) calls the white supremacist The Daily Stormer the "The Daily Caller". Not too far off base given that The Daily Caller is the creation of white supremacist Tucker Carlson.

Willem Van Spronsen, a musician and carpenter from Vashon Island, near Seattle, showed up outside a privately owned detention center for Immigration and Customs Enforcement around 4 a.m. Saturday, hours after an organized protest at the facility, armed with a rifle. He began throwing "incendiary devices" at vehicles, lighting one car on fire, and attempting to burn buildings and a propane tank, according to Tacoma police. Responding officers opened fire, killing the 69-year-old.
"I am antifa," he wrote, though later adding that he was not affiliated with any organization. Van Spronsen described the "semi automatic weapon" he used in the attack as a "cheap, home built, unregistered 'ghost' ar15" with six magazines.

Republican support for Trump rises after racially charged tweets: Reuters/Ipsos poll

Repugs do love expressions of overt white supremacy.

Otoh, there are decent and patriot Americans:
... Among independents, about three out of 10 said they approved of Trump, down from four out of 10 a week ago. His net approval - the percentage who approve minus the percentage who disapprove - dropped by 2 points among Democrats in the poll.

Trump's overall approval remained unchanged over the past week. According to the poll, 41% of the U.S. public said they approved of his performance in office, while 55% disapproved....

Well, we've already passed the 1933 point; trump has been elected. I was referring to how the cult of followers, as well as the gaggle of mostly silent "establishment" Republicans (modern day "good Germans") hold rabid belief in their cult leader while at the same time slowly converting others to the cause and virulently attacking anyone who isn't in the cult. Divide and conquer, as it were. After seeing the trump rally in NC last night with the "send her back" chants, my feeling about the parallels between the rise of Nazis and the trump phenomenon are even more evident. The way I see it, trump is the one who hates his country; he expends massive effort and resources to avoid serving his country as a young man, and throughout his adult life he expends massive effort and resources to ensure he pays little or no tax on his income. On top of that, he does all he can to eliminate environmental regulations in favor of industrial profit; even establishes an extension of the Department of the Interior out in CO so that the land rapers out west will be closer to the "officials" that will allow them to begin using public lands for private profit. All this, to me, and to most intelligent people, provides pretty strong evidence that trump is the one who hates his country. He is more of a threat to our country than anything else as far as I'm concerned. It's pathetic that it has gone this far.

Fox News Legal Analyst Torches Trump For Unleashing 'Torrent Of Hatred'

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano has accused President Donald Trump of unleashing “a torrent of hatred” with his attacks on four Democratic congresswomen of color....

Napolitano said government workers “take an oath to support the Constitution,” which itself “not only commands of government both racial neutrality and color blindness, it generally prohibits government officials from making distinctions among people on the basis of immutable characteristics.”

So, when the president defies these moral and constitutional norms and tells women of color to ‘Go back,’ he raises a terrifying specter. The specter is hatred not for ideas he despises but for the people who embrace those ideas. The specter is also a dog whistle to groups around the country that hatred is back in fashion and is acceptable to articulate publicly.

Hatred “must be rejected loudly in all its forms – especially when it comes from the president,” Napolitano added.

Santino William Legan: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Santino William Legan has been identified as the 19-year-old suspect accused of killing three people and wounding several others in a mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, according to CBS News. The shooting Sunday night on the final day of the annual charity event at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy left three dead, 12 injured and the suspected shooter, Legan, killed by police. Several others were injured in the chaos after shots were fired, but were not shot, authorities said.

The dead include 6-year-old Stephen Romero. Romero’s grandmother and mother were also shot, but are expected to survive....

One witness who told reporters they’d come face to face with the gunman and asked why he was doing this was told, “Because I’m really angry.” ...

Legan also posted about a fringe white supremacist book written in 1890. Noted indivualist anarchist, revisionist historian and Holocaust denier James J. Martin called, the book, “…one of the most incendiary works ever to be published anywhere.” Legan quoted from the book in a post accompanied by a Smokey the Bear sign about fire danger. He wrote: “Read Might Is Right by Ragnar Redbeard. Why overcrowd towns and pave more open space to make room for hordes of mestizos and Silicon Valley white twats?”

According to the book Modern Satanism: Anatomy of a Subculture, Might Is Right by Ragnar Redbeard was authored under a pseudonym. It is purported to expand on Friedrich Nietzsche’s “theories of master–slave morality and herd mentality …”

The book is described as being akin to Social Darwinism and includes misogynistic and racist principles “claiming that the woman and the family as a whole is the property of the man and proclaiming the innate superiority of the Anglo-Saxon race. The book also contains many strong anti-Semitic statements.” ...

Exclusive: FBI document warns conspiracy theories are a new domestic terrorism threat

... The document specifically mentions QAnon, a shadowy network that believes in a deep state conspiracy against President Trump, and Pizzagate, the theory that a pedophile ring including Clinton associates was being run out of the basement of a Washington, D.C., pizza restaurant (which didn’t actually have a basement).

“The FBI assesses these conspiracy theories very likely will emerge, spread, and evolve in the modern information marketplace, occasionally driving both groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts,” the document states. It also goes on to say the FBI believes conspiracy theory-driven extremists are likely to increase during the 2020 presidential election cycle.
 That's gonna send the idiot CPFers into paroxysms of whiny denial and further conspiracy theorizing.
... Joe Uscinski, an associate professor of political science at the University of Miami, whose work on conspiracy theories is cited in the intelligence bulletin, said there’s no data suggesting conspiracy theories are any more widespread now than in the past. “There is absolutely no evidence that people are more conspiratorial now,” says Uscinski, after Yahoo News described the bulletin to him. “They may be, but there is not strong evidence showing this.”

It’s not that people are becoming more conspiratorial, says Uscinski, but conspiracies are simply getting more media attention.
Kinda my initial thought, too. Not really a "new" domestic terrorism threat, just a particularly stupid subset of the reichwing terrorists we've always had. The important question is whether they're getting more violent.
... Snyder, the former Homeland Security official, agrees that conspiracy theories may in fact inspire violence and be a threat, but questions what the government is going to do about it.

He notes that at the Department of Homeland Security, “nearly all, if not all, the intelligence analysts focusing on domestic extremist groups” were eliminated under the Trump administration. “There is no one there doing this,” he said.
 Wouldn't want to irk any of those "fine people".

Anything that inconveniences QIdiots and white supremacists is okay by me.

Trump officials have redirected resources from countering far-right, racism-fueled domestic terrorism

... But the Department of Homeland Security, which is charged with identifying threats and preventing domestic terrorism, has sought to redirect resources away from countering anti-government, far-right and white supremacist groups.

The shift has come despite evidence of a growing danger. Last year, every extremist killing in the United States involved a follower of far-right hate groups or ideology, according to the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism. The FBI has noted a sharp increase in domestic terrorism cases involving white supremacists.

In June, the acting secretary of Homeland Security, Kevin McAleenan, told Congress that “white supremacist extremist violence” is “an evolving and increasingly concerning threat.”

Under Trump, 85% of the “countering violent extremism” grants awarded by Homeland Security explicitly targeted Muslims and other minority groups, including immigrants and refugees, more than under the Obama administration, according to an analysis by the Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan policy institute at the New York University School of Law....

In April, McAleenan announced a new Office of Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention, including “racially motivated violence.” It appears to largely be a rebranding of an Obama-era initiative.

Under President Obama, the office had about 40 full-time staff and a $24-million annual budget, according to Nate Snyder, an Obama administration counterterrorism official. The office now has fewer than 10 full-time employees and a budget below $3 million....

According to the most recent FBI data, hate crimes increased for the third straight year in 2017, rising 17% from 2016. The FBI warned this week that the risk of future attacks may be growing as well....

In his comments Monday, Trump appeared to blame mental illness for the latest mass shootings, not ideology. “Mental illness and hatred pull the trigger, not the gun,” he said at the White House.

But numerous studies disprove the theory that terrorism is a mental health problem, according to the Brennan Center for Justice.

Obama issued a rare statement Monday underscoring the growing threat of white supremacist and racism-motivated domestic terrorism.

“While the motivations behind these shooting may not be fully known, there are indications that the El Paso shooting follows a dangerous trend,” Obama tweeted. “Troubled individuals who embrace racist ideologies and see themselves obligated to act violently to preserve white supremacy.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss), who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, was more pointed in his criticism.

“White supremacist terrorism ... is on the rise and is now our top domestic terrorism threat,” Thompson said Monday. “Those that looked the other way for years — or enabled right-wing extremism for political advantage — are on notice.”

Gun laws have changed, of course, but they haven’t stopped the shootings. That’s because guns are inanimate objects — tools — not things with (or without) consciences. People with bad intentions are going to kill other people, whether they use an AR-15 or a van.

What else? Our culture has changed, and it has changed a lot.

We don’t have the same set of values we had 50 years ago. Or 35 years ago. Or even 20 years ago.

Nothing is out of bounds. Everything is ‘okay.’ We have no parameters, no more social norms, no more behavioral expectations. Thanks to an invasion of our culture by the Left, and it was by the Left beginning in the late 1960s, one cultural and social norm after another has been demolished, demonized, and destroyed.

Church? You radical Right-wing bigot. Who are you to tell people ‘who to love?’ What they can wear? What sex they are?

The 10 Commandments? Again, more bigoted BS. You’re just a Christian extremist who is trying to impose his/her values on the rest of us.

Traditional dad-and-mom families? Meh. Outmoded. Who needs ‘structure?’ Let’s not only destroy this pillar of society, but let’s also introduce free love, no-fault divorce, abortion, welfare, and life in a judgment-free zone.

As for our politics, let’s make them personal, rancorous, vicious, bloodthirsty — anything but focused on problem-solving. Party first, last, always. Your opponent is your enemy, not your opponent. His ideas are garbage, wrong, destructive, racist, anti-(fill in the blank), and hateful, not just different.

Our institutions of primary and higher education have been thoroughly infiltrated and subverted by Left-wing America-hating, intolerant bigots who look at conservatives, traditionalists, and even ‘moderate’ Democrats as people to be destroyed, not debated.

Our entertainment industry is full of self-righteous hypocrites who, when they’re not too busy telling the rest of us how to live, are showing all of us how not to. Much of what is produced and spoon-fed to the public is vile, disgusting, unmitigated filth, but we’ve been fed so much of it we hardly recognize that anymore. One shocking piece of garbage leads to another, then another, then another. And we’re told this is the ‘new normal.’

Meanwhile, these same people are attacking our culture daily, insulting it, eating away at it, dismantling it, shunning it — while preaching to those of us who resist the transformation that we are the problem.

Depravity is in and ‘righteous.’ Good, old-fashioned ‘do unto others’ and ‘thou shalt not’ are out on their asses, and they aren’t welcome around here anymore.

Abortion on demand. Death, drugs, violence in the movies and on our city streets. F you to traditional values that kept our social fabric from unraveling. Nothing is out of bounds and nothing is off-limits, except our old-time morality and cultural norms.

All of it — all of it — brought to you compliments of the far Left, which has always been right at home in the Democrat Party.

Bottom line: It’s no wonder we’re having so many mass shootings and other acts of violence. We’ve lost our collective soul. It’s been stolen from us by misguided, selfish miscreants who believe in a set of valueless values that destroy societies rather than strengthen and build on them.

That’s not a ‘gun’ problem. America is suffering from a cultural sickness the Left is perpetuating.
