“OK, boomer” has turned into an epithet rallying the country’s young against their forebears in collective mockery. The all-purpose reply is designed to disarm oldish people who dispense condescension dressed up as wisdom.
...
OK, boomer” indicts not an argument and not an individual but an entire generation, or an entire generation’s attitude — and it does it with two words dripping with dismissal. The Gen Z progenitors of this insolent slogan say they use it because they’re inheriting a collapsing climate, an unequal economy and endless battles overseas that they didn’t start. They’re saying a lot with very little, and by saying very little they end up saying even more.
Been seeing this meme pop up a lot lately.
I find stuff like this worrisome. I think there's an inherit danger in lumping an entire group of people together in a derisive, dismissive, manner. Now, I understand we use concepts to "lump things together" all the time. We categorize and label things to facilitate communication. That's how language works. But I think potential problems arise when we begin to apply negative associations to entire groups of people. Its easy for that to slip into feelings of superiority, prejudice and outright hate for an said group, irrespective of the individual.

It's unfair and rude, but as a boomer I also think it's kinda funny. We really have fucked things up, with the election of 45SHOLE being our crowning achievement, and it's not all that different from our mocking "blue hairs" and "old farts yelling at kids on their lawns."
Rather than get upset, I might just call her/him a "smartass", mention how much more money I have, and point out that s/he has to live with the consequences of our choices, not the reverse .
Yeah, I vividly remember in high school thinking that "when folks my age are in charge of things, it will be a lot better." Well, shit, nobody ever called me and things are more fucked up now than they've ever been. I feel the shame and degradation but am working to fix it.

Speaking of things that boomers have fucked up, albeit a minority of us:
After an upsurge in racially motivated attacks around the world, other countries are beginning to regard the United States as an exporter of white supremacism, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official said Friday.
“For almost two decades, the United States has pointed abroad at countries who are exporters of extreme Islamist ideology,” Russell Travers, acting director of the National Counterterrorism Center, told an audience in Washington, D.C. “We are now being seen as the exporter of white supremacist ideology. That’s a reality with which we are going to have to deal.” ...
Before it gained recognition as a homicidal neo-Nazi terrorist organization, Atomwaffen Division found its biggest fans among underage American boys and active-duty U.S. military personnel, leaked messages reveal.
Atomwaffen is a violent white supremacist group, with at least five murders attributed to its members. The group formed in 2015 on the now-defunct fascist forum Iron March. This week, a trove of years' worth of Iron March logs, including private messages, appeared online in spreadsheet form, posted anonymously by a user dubbed “antifa-data.” The logs contain potentially identifying information about forum participants, as well as a look into Atomwaffen’s origins....
Excellent, shine the light of day on the white supremacist cockroaches.
Things you may not have come across in US reporting:
The knifeman was a convicted terrorist that some say never should have been released.
One of the citizens that tackled and disarmed him is a convicted murderer that some say never should have been released.
One of the citizens that tackled and disarmed the knifeman, a chef from Poland, armed himself with a 5 foot narwhal tusk he pulled down from a wall display.
The incident started in Fishmonger’s Hall, in which a program of rehabilitation for offenders who had been released from prison, including the knifeman and perhaps the murderer, and run by the University of Cambridge’s Criminology department was being held.
In February 2019, it came to light that Fidelity Charitable, through their Donor-Advised Fund, approves financial support to groups that promote anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, and anti-LGBTQ+ views and practices. The Public Good Coalition finds this practice unacceptable, and demand that Fidelity Charitable follow the leadership of the over 80 impact-conscious corporations and foundations who have adopted a moral clause that filters out groups who are involved in organized bigotry and apply this policy immediately.
We need your help to make sure Fidelity Charitable adopt this policy. Will you sign our petition and show them that you denounce their support of organized bigotry, and support our demand to immediately implement a moral clause?
Today while at the food store, I was standing there and looked down at the stand for the local newspaper. The front page headline was "Scott County Votes to Uphold Second Amendment" or something very similar to that. Scott County is a rural, poor county in SW Virginia and since Democrats have been winning elections in Virginia, these moron yahoos have somehow gotten the idea that "they" are coming to take their guns away. No shit; this is what they think. It's crazy. I've not seen on local media any such threat to take any guns away. It just shows the power of stupid cult shit on stupid cult people. I did not buy a copy of the paper so I don't know how Scott County will "uphold" the 2nd Amendment; all I can figure is they will buy more guns and not realize the fact they can do this puts the lie to their whole cause, keeps them stupid, and somehow reinforces their initial belief in the cause they just proved to be stupid.

On the TV news segment about this, some guy was rhetorically asking how a foreign national managed to get a handgun. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything, or I would have spewed fershure. Where would he get a handgun??? In Florida, right across the Alabama line? Gee, I can't imagine. Maybe a street vendor? Maybe a gun show? Maybe a "Florida Man" he met? How oh how would one ever get a gun in Florida?

Or possibly he was carrying his Saudis military issue.
They rotate a pretty big group through training here.
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”
I guess nobody cares to be reminded that the 9/11 culprits were also Saudi aviation trainees in Florida, eh?
This guy was already a pilot. He was getting specialized training. It does make me wonder why he used a gun rather than flying a plane into a crowd.

Turns out that "official representatives of friendly governments" can legally purchase, which he did.

When this happened the other day I started to think that maybe Pompeo's statement that the US will no longer consider Israel establishing more settlements on stolen Palestinian land to be illegal as the UN Resolution declares it to be could possibly have been a motive for the Saudi Air Force guy to reach his limit. I believe Pompeo made his statement just a day or two before this shooting. In any case, US policy, along with Israeli policy, serves to create enemies for us at a pretty brisk pace. Sort of like the old "we've met the enemy, and he's us" adage.
It doesn't get into why you call the complainant, Repug DeAnna Lorraine, also nutty.
Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but 1) her boyfriend, 2) a MAGA relationship expert relationship expert and 3) everyone wants to kill her cats
"Tesoriero, a self-styled MAGA relationship expert who is running a quixotic congressional run of her own against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), told The Daily Beast that she saw Navarro skulking outside her home late at night.
“Clearly, he has a lot of screws loose,” Tesoriero told The Daily Beast. “I think a lot of this power has gotten into his head. He has a lot of money now from campaign donations.”
He would have stolen my cats,” Tesoriero said"

When trump is talking in public and especially at his pep rallies he often holds his fingers in that configuration sort of out to the side of the middle of his grotesque body. My favorite is when he's caught in a photo with has mouth looking like an asshole though.

I don't know about 45SHOLE, but I just learned that the other White supremacists use what we used to think of as the 'OK' sign because the fingers form a 'W' and a 'P' - White power.
