Yeah I missed that one, apparently it's getting some media coverage. I would not bet against the ~ $3M mark.
We may be low, $1,430,538 now. However, you're correct that they know the goal will never be hit, so the pledges are meaningless. Then, I'd guess that some of this is astroturf, not real donations from distinct citizens.

As my big avatar suggests, I've been in favor of U.S. combat troops leaving Syria for years, but I think that it's hilarious that he's mucked up even a good thing by not consulting with or even pre-informing allies, advisors like Mattis and Repugs. He's already blown all chances to get significant credit and support for the move.

Next week, probably the day after Christmas (since the wars on ISIS and Christmas are over) Trump will probably announce that all the US forces in Korea and Japan and Germany are also coming home. And in January, he will announce that all the US military troops based here in the US will also be going home. He's already asked me to arrange for the entire US Navy to sail up the Mississippi from New Orleans to Memphis to celebrate the ultimate end of our presence on foreign soil. I told him that there's no way in hell I'm going to do that. And I'm not gonna resign.
