Cawthorn

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Numbnuts is now trending on Twitter.

He may have gone a bit too far this time.
His spokesperson is lying about the clear meaning of Mad's words.
Local RepuQs are tripping over themselves to either excuse him or distance themselves.
Don Lemon trashed him on CNN.

We'll see, it may not matter.

There's no reason whatsoever to give press coverage to Cawthorn or Bohmbart or any other first-term minority back bencher except that it's more entertaining than covering the majority of CongressCritters that are actually trying to do their jobs. They get more clicks for some village's idiot saying something stupid or outrageous. But in giving them publicity, they're giving them the only power they have. Ignoring them would be like pouring water on the witch or shining light on the vampire, but that's not gonna happen.

You're right. He got more press than any of the other clowns in the car, and the more outrageous he got, the more coverage he got. Getting attention is something he's long been good at and perfected the skill.

Yep, during the primaries he was on cable news multiple times a day as well as the Sunday talk shows. Hell, they even let him phone in which wasn't done at the time. It's also how he was able to have success with no money and no political organization.

Remember, the whole campaign was run out of a backroom in trump tower with about 20 people.

Trump managed to make the entire campaign conversation about him. People liked him or hated him but everyone talked about Trump Trump Trump. Cruz talked about Trump; Little Bush talked about Trump - they all talked about Trump and then he would entertain the unwashed masses by winging back insults like kids playing "yo mama" on a playground court.

trump managed to make lunacy marketable. He played the "poorly educated" and the redneck vengeance cards to great effect. It's why folks like Madison and those two nutjobs Greene and Bobertbort get elected. And there's lots of nutjobs coming up for next year, each trying to out nutjob the competition.

Ignoring them would be like pouring water on the witch or shining light on the vampire, but that's not gonna happen.
For example:

GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn says the Capitol rioters were mostly 'normal people' who were 'kind of wandering in'

:wtf: Speaking of normal wandering people who are now "political hostages":

Capitol rioters committed more than 1,000 assaults on police, prosecutors say

The resistance:
Madison Cawthorn’s ‘alarming’ behaviour should be censured by GOP, his home town paper writes

... The congressman from North Carolina has been widely condemned after he said that there could be “bloodshed” over elections in the future.

The remarks were slammed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and branded “insane” by Representative Adam Kinzinger, who is a fellow Republican.

Mr Cawthorn has also been criticised for describing those arrested after the 6 January pro-Trump insurrection in Washington DC as “political prisoners”.

Now the editorial board of The Charlotte Observer has called for Republicans in their state to censure the first term lawmaker.

“His fellow Republicans, including those in North Carolina, should respond,” the paper stated.

“They should join Democrats in condemning Cawthorn and, in a bipartisan effort, censuring him in the US House.”

The newspaper also pointed to Mr Cawthorn’s “antics” such as his “formal request that the US cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment” to remove Joe Biden as president.

A member of Congress cannot “formally” make such a request and Cawthorn even misspelled the name of vice president Kamala Harris in his letter.

The newspaper added that Mr Cawthorn’s election to Congress is a sign of such national polarisation that GOP supporters would rather vote for a person “with a glaringly thin resume and a bloated history of lying” than for a Democrat.

“Republicans surely would rather not target one of their own and face the possible wrath of their base, not to mention the former president,” the board wrote.

“But Cawthorn can no longer be dismissed as a silly Congressman braying from the mountains of North Carolina. His rhetoric is dangerous, not only to his party but his country.

“It’s time to stop ignoring him.” ...
Great idea, but most RepuQs are too stupid, unpatriotic and cowardly.

Worse than just refusing to vote for a Dem, they picked the looniest of the bunch in primary. They could have had a garden variety bat-shit crazy drooler, but nooooo. They had to pick Cawthorn.

Speaking of loons in Congress:

Some Republicans urge companies to 'openly rebel' against a new OSHA rule requiring large employers to mandate workers get vaccinated or face weekly testing

Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas
Rep. Chip Roy of Texas
Sen. Rick Scott of Florida
Rep. Jim Banks of Louisiana
Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy
... Meanwhile, several Republican governors said they would seek to challenge the new requirements, including Govs. Brian Kemp of Georgia, Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Greg Abbott of Texas, and Doug Ducey of Arizona.
And of course:

The same OSHA that needs to be greatly expanded and further empowered? Is everything you strive for completely bass-akwards?
Governing is for serious people, Maddy. You are not even close to a serious person.
Next up for Maddie: filing a bill to reinstate child labor. :obscene-birdiered:

Actually got me curious as Mad and Greene and the rest of the loons are always threatening to file something (guessing there's no count of bills they claim to be filing but don't).

Anyways, the Madster has sponsored 21 bills that are languishing in committee and going nowhere and co sponsored 201 bills, three of which have become law including:
2. H.R.1448 — 117th Congress (2021-2022)
Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers for Veterans Therapy Act
Sponsor: Rep. Stivers, Steve [R-OH-15] (Introduced 03/01/2021) Cosponsors: (317)
Committees: House - Veterans' Affairs | Senate - Veterans' Affairs
Committee Report: H. Rept. 117-31
Latest Action: 08/25/2021 Became Public Law No: 117-37. (TXT | PDF) (All Actions)
Tracker: This bill has the status Became LawHere are the steps for Status of Legislation:IntroducedPassed HousePassed SenateTo PresidentBecame Law

Fascinating.

I have a theory that he was only elected because he's a young handsome dude in a wheel chair and these dips assumed he was a disabled vet, and that's the kind of stuff people eat up when they view the world through the lens of TV tropes and memes.

It's Western North Carolina, he was elected because he wasn't a Democrat.

The RepuQ nominee was certain to win election in this district. As for his primary upset the chair may have gotten him sympathy votes, but I don't think many thought that he was a vet. Instead, he massively lied in other ways about his resume and lied about his runoff opponent. He also got quiet but widespread support from our right-wing xtian network.
