K-Pop Stans Hijack GOP Congresswoman’s #ImpeachBidenNow Hashtag
Marjorie Taylor Greene posted the hashtag on Thursday evening and by Friday morning, it had been overtaken by photos of Korean pop stars.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whose support of the QAnon conspiracy theory is well documented, attempted to turn #ImpeachBidenNow into a viral hashtag on Thursday night.

By Friday morning, she instead learned the power and passion of K-pop fans.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden’s second day in office, Greene announced that she had filed articles of impeachment against him, accusing him of abusing his power when he was vice president by allowing his son, Hunter, to serve on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, according to The Hill.

To accompany her announcement, she tweeted ”#ImpeachBidenNow.”

Greene probably assumed her hashtag would attract a groundswell of support — and it did, just not in the way she expected.

By Friday morning, there were more than 100,000 tweets using the hashtag, and the vast majority were sent by K-pop fans sharing photos of their favorite artists, rather than anti-Biden messages....

Speaking of wingnuts, I got an email from US Senator Marsha Blackburn (R) TN this morning. She graduated from state level imbecile to national imbecile a few years ago in a tragic case of widespread stupidity and money. Anyway, her email started off with fear mongering and lies about how Biden's energy policies will result in "$5 a gallon gasoline" (maybe so, but only because Biden may be able to decrease the massive yearly government subsidies to the oil industry, which Marsha is ok with) and "loss of energy independence" (a ridiculous lie since any expansion of wind or solar or geothermal results in the opposite...an increase in energy independence) and "loss of American jobs" (another ridiculous lie since the expansion of alternate energy sectors will create, not decrease, jobs. Marsha instills the fear that the entire oil industry will just disappear if Biden has his way). Marsha goes on to tout her recent "achievements", which are nothing more than a collection of lies, half truths, and wishful thinking. It makes me dizzy to think there are enough fools in TN to vote for this crazy lying self serving poseur.

Past social media posts included liking comments about hanging Barack Obama, shooting Nancy Pelosi, and executing FBI agents

California congressman Jimmy Gomez moved on Wednesday to expel the hard-right representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress, after a number of past violent comments she allegedly endorsed on social media about Democratic officials came to light.

“As if it weren’t enough to amplify conspiracy theories that the September 11 attacks were an inside job and the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was staged, a string of recent media reports has now confirmed that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had previously supported social media posts calling for political violence against the Speaker of the House, members of Congress, and former President Barack Obama,” Mr Gomez, who represents parts of Los Angeles, said in a news release.

“Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues,” he added....

Expelling Ms Greene would require a two-thirds vote of Congress. Democrats hold only a 10-seat advantage in the House, and nearly two-thirds of House Republicans approved of an attempt to overturn Mr Biden’s legitimate election earlier this month, so such bipartisan cooperation is unlikely.

Former president Donald Trump endorsed Ms Greene as a “future Republican Star” in August.

House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy refused to strip committee assignments from Marjorie Green Taylor, who received a standing ovation from about half the Republican members at a closed-door GOP caucus. In the same meeting, Liz Cheney faced a vote to be removed from the party’s leadership for supporting the impeachment of Donald Trump.

The GOP, meanwhile, turned its focus to Ilhan Omar in an attempt to remove her from office for controversial statements in an effort to dissuade Democrats from moving forward with a vote to eject Taylor Greene from Congress.

... Meanwhile, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon could face state charges over allegations he defrauded donors for the US-Mexico border wall, as reported by The New York Times.

Bannon was given a pardon by the former president after being indicted of federal charges for the scheme, but the Manhattan district attorney’s has now reportedly started investigating his role in fundraising for the project.

Cheney survives secret vote on leadership while Greene keeps House posts

Republican Liz Cheney kept her leadership post in the House Wednesday, surviving a secret vote by other Republicans on a day in which the GOP was riven by a debate over how to reconcile Trump loyalists and conspiracy theorists with those who have stood up against the former president.

... Ten Republicans, including Cheney, joined Democrats in impeaching Trump on Jan. 13.

As has been his trademark approach to politics, McCarthy has tried to find ways to please everyone, and in the process seemed to irritate many. But he ended the day Wednesday by standing up for Cheney, who kept her post in a secret vote by a vote of 146-to-61, and McCarthy claimed the party was united.

That's as close as most of the 146 will ever come to condemning 45SHOLE and supporting impeachment. Sad.

In a statement released Wednesday evening, McCarthy said that he had privately reprimanded Greene, the conspiracy theorist freshman House member from Georgia, for her promotion of lies about staged school shootings, her endorsement of violence against Democrats and her anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. McCarthy also suggested moving Greene from one committee to another, rather than taking her off both of the committees — education and labor — she has been named to.

Coward.

Democrats said they would call a vote on Thursday to remove Greene from the committees, a move that could put every House member on the record on the issue. Even as McCarthy tried to minimize the damage of Greene’s comments by changing the subject to comments by Democrats, several Republican senators added severe condemnations of Greene.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., didn’t hold back in condemning Greene’s past remarks.

“It’s beyond reprehensible for any elected official, especially a member of Congress, to parrot violent QAnon rhetoric and promote deranged conspiracies like the Pentagon wasn’t really hit by a plane on 9/11. It’s not conservative, it’s insane,” Tillis said.

Good for Tillis. Rare, perhaps unique words from me.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., said that Greene’s past comments about the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 were “disgusting” and “wrong.” Green had suggested that the massacre was staged and went on to harass survivors who lobbied Congress to change gun laws.

Good for Scott.

Scott, who himself voted to overturn the 2020 election results only hours after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, is overseeing the Senate Republicans campaign arm this election cycle. He has been at pains to distance the GOP from Greene and her association with the Qanon conspiracy cult and has repeatedly said this week that she doesn’t represent the party.

Good luck with that.

But McCarthy’s failure to remove Greene from her committees sent a mixed signal on that front. It certainly did not send a clear signal of condemnation, especially when Greene herself was raising money off the effort by Democrats to oust her, claiming that she was being punished “because I stood up for President Trump” rather than because of her endorsements of violence and conspiracy theories. In a Wednesday meeting with House Republicans, Greene attempted to distance herself from some of her past comments, saying that the school shootings were “real and awful,” then apologizing for having subscribed to some QAnon conspiracy theories.

Those remarks appeared good enough for McCarthy and many of the Republicans in attendance, many of whom gave Greene a standing ovation.

McCarthy’s waffling on Greene, however, represents an opportunity for Democrats to sully the GOP’s reputation as the party of conspiracy theories, which they are eager to do. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., sent out a press release Wednesday referring to McCarthy as the congressman from the Q party, rather than from the Republican Party.

“And now 200ish Republicans will vote against this resolution and with [Greene]. A great look,” tweeted Brendan Buck, who worked for two Republican House speakers.

A Republican strategist this week told Yahoo News Greene’s lightning-rod profile could hurt Republicans in the 2022 midterm elections if she is not condemned and rejected. Referencing one of the conspiracy theories that Greene has speculated about in the past, the strategist said: “There is no path back to the majority if our candidates are explaining Jewish space lasers next fall.”
