As if hi-jacking of PBR isn't proof enough (and it's not even really PBR anymore), it's clear that for the most part Americans have shit for taste in beers.
According to Food and Wine magazine:
"Michelob Ultra ranks as the most popular beer in the U.S. based on Google search interest, followed by Bud Light, Stella Artois, Budweiser, and Guinness"
Upon further review, perhaps "Google search interest" isn't the best measure of "the most popular beer." Seems possible most of those inquires might have been "why does anybody drink (Michelob Ultra)? or "is (Michelob Ultra) really beer?" or "how many people have chosen undiluted horse piss over (Michelob Ultra)?"
Back in the day of the early sixties when I was at UGA PBR was the choice. The legal age was 21 so many UGA students would not be of age. However, the city of Athens had $.05 tax on each can. Therefore, one could buy a beer if they could throw enough change up to purchase. There was even one package store that delivered - no questions asked.
Back in the day in Chapel Hill, the drinking age was apparently "old enough to reach the bar", although legally it was 18 for beer and 21 for liquor. In four years, I never knew anybody to be fined or actually charged for underage drinking, and getting somebody to buy liquor was a pretty transparent process. PBR and Budweiser were popular, and anybody who made a trip to "the West" where Coors was available always brought some back.

I remember when the age were different in NC. I had friends in Charlotte a year younger than me. I became the designated buyer.
