The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Muslim preacher urges followers to claim 'Jihad Seeker's Allowance'
Ridiculing the daily lives of UK workers, Choudary said: “You find people are busy working the whole of their life. They wake up at 7 o’clock. They go to work at 9 o’clock.

Choudary, a father-of-four, claims more than £25,000 a year in benefits, £8,000 more than the take-home pay of some soldiers fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, according to the Sun, which covertly filmed the preacher at three meetings.
...

“Democracy, freedom, secularism, the parliament, all the MPs and the Presidents, all the kuffar’s ideas, everything the people worship, we have to believe that they are bad and we have got to reject them.”

When later confronted about his filmed speeches, Choudary said: “Many people in the Muslim community are on Jobseeker’s Allowance and welfare benefits. As a joke I may say something about Jihad Seeker’s Allowance. Clearly it is not a Jihad Seeker’s Allowance.

Bigots demand death for top bloggers

Yikes.....

I know a few Christians that would love for that to happen here too.

I don't know anybody personally who would literally want bloggers killed, but I do live a somewhat sheltered life in such matters. But the sentiment expressed by that group aren't all that different from what does get expressed regularly in the US. They consider being "atheist" as grounds for attack, and believe that "the Shahbagh movement has been organised to insult Islam." In the US, few not giving at least lip service to a mainstream religion are going to get elected, and the 80%-majority Christians complain incessantly about being insulted and discriminated against. "War on Christmas,"...indeed.

Back before Digg imploded I received a few death threats from far right wingnuts for daring to debunk their "North American Union by 2008!!!" "Amero by 2008!!!" and "Four football fields wide mega-highway from Mexico to Winnipeg" fantasies.

I got 29, but one of those was a pure guess. The three I missed were all because of confusing Buddhism and Hinduism.

32 out of 32, but the questions were pretty easy, and there is really nothing to be
proud about for knowing something about the various supernaturalisms in the world.

And Gandhi is not in hell.

That's why Joseph chose to hide her from the public; she would have more than fired. Too bad queers can't take a lesson from this. Oh wait, what am I saying? Queers know nothing of Mary. :-0?>
It gets even weirder, though:
...In a bizarre twist, the school reportedly went on to offer the pregnant woman's job to her then-fiance...
I agree, your bizarre twist is about as bizarre as it gets. However, you seem to think that a Christian school should not expect their teachers to have any morals. What kind of message is being sent to the students if their teachers aren't expected to lead moral lives?

The school has a problem here...I'd bet on Allred.

Since this is "The Religion Thread", I'd like to ramble a bit on some things I have a hard time comprehending, so I'm going to change the direction of the comments already posted.

Of the liberal posters left in this forum, except one, all proclaim there is no God and that the Bible is a 'fantastic' work of fiction; yet, due to the OT account of God venting His revenge on wickedness of the people, some postings slam God as an evil, murdering individual.

Now if God does not nor never existed, how would this non-existent God be guilty of being a murderous, non-caring God? If the Bible is a work of fiction, and was written in the imaginative minds of men, wouldn't the accounts of 'mass murder' described therein that so many of you choose to throw in the face of believers, also be the works or thoughts of overly-imaginative minds?

I, for one, cannot verify the existence or non-existence of a Supreme Deity no more than anyone of you cannot verify for a fact that there isn't a God, but I choose to believe there is because of changes wrought in my life since I chose to turn my life around.

I don't believe in 'religion'. Religion is mankind's downfall. Religious denominations feud with each other over what is right and what is wrong in each's beliefs. Many have good intentions, many are outright murderous because of the differences in beliefs.

When my time to go comes around, I'll take satisfaction in knowing that my devotion to Him is my judgement.
Best wishes to you all.

It wouldn't.

It's that you believe it to be true... An Atheist will believe none of the mysticism.. There's a difference between verifiable historical events and places and Faith... e.g. I can accept ..even believe that Jesus existed but I completely reject the notion of miracles or of a deity..

The Piper wrote:I, for one, cannot verify the existence or non-existence of a Supreme Deity no more than anyone of you cannot verify for a fact that there isn't a God,.
Same can be said of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (R'amen).. even given the evidence of declining numbers of benevolent pirates..

True... . Religion is the prehensile tail of human mindsets.. .. .

I think organized religion is the bane of mankind. It is the source of more misery and death throughout history than anything else. That's why I'm against it. And to me, Christianity is nothing more than death worship....the promise of something better after your worldly existence. Well, ok. But I personally think that this right here is all there is. Make the most of it. Thank you for your support, and check out John Prine's song "Pretty Good." It's a concise religious primer.

Meet the new witch doctor, same as the old witch doctor. You have been fooled
again. Doesn't really matter who the new guy is, he'll still be beating the drums
for the same old tired voodoo. Francis is a nice name though.

Well at least they got it over with fairly fast. Diane Sawyer looks like she's
about to have an orgasm.

I never really got into the Francis films. Guess I was a Mister Ed kind of guy.

Frisco. Might be a strong headwind there for the Pope. Maybe someone can
start a kind of Log Cabin Republicans for Catholics, maybe they already have.

Heard mention this past week that US Catholic support for gay marriage, abortion and women priests is surprisingly (to me) large. Maybe the US church is the Log Cabin wing of Catholicism.
Great, all those rumors about the Anti-Christ coming from the Catholic church will be amplified. Another Christian war?
