Well, I don't know if they're direct genealogical descendants, but they're living on the same land with the same attitudes so at least there's some cultural/historical connection. Hating each other is deeply ingrained.

Re: Joltin' Joe Biden
Note that the Israelites had little or nothing to do with the destruction of Philistine. Jerusalem was destroyed by the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 586 BCE and the Jews were exiled to Babylon along with the Philistines.Philistines: History
... Following the destruction of the Philistine cities, their inhabitants were either killed or exiled to Mesopotamia. Those exiled continued identifying themselves as the "men of Gaza" or Ashkelon for roughly 150 years, until they finally lost their distinct ethnic identity.
Babylonian ration lists dating back to the early 6th century BC, which mention the offspring of Aga, the ultimate ruler of Ashkelon, provide clues to the eventual fate of the Philistines. This evidence is further illuminated by documents from the latter half of the 5th century BC found in the Murasu Archive at Nippur. These records, which link individuals to cities like Gaza and Ashkelon, highlight a continued sense of ethnic identity among the Philistines who were exiled in Babylonia. These instances represent the last known mentions of the Philistines, marking the end of their presence in historical accounts.
During the Persian period, the region of Philistia saw resettlement, with its inhabitants being identified as Phoenicians, although evidence for continuity from earlier, Iron Age traditions in the region is scarce....

Longtime animosity is a given, but to extend it a further 1000+ years to a then nonexistent culture and people impinges on YOUR credibility.

Sure, if we were professors of ancient history, but since we're just a couple of guys solving the world's problems on a friendly forum, I'd say that "they've hated each other forever" is close enough.

It’s a sad and disturbing abuse of power. I have always been against presidents having the ability to pardon criminals or grant clemency. In this particular case, it’s even more egregious since Biden kept saying he would not pardon his son. A liar to the end.
I’ll also be against Trump pardoning all those people found guilty in the supposed Jan. 6 insurrection. You just know it will happen.

I think when Biden originally said he wouldn't pardon Hunter, he probably expected to win the election. Different world and different circumstances now, and it would be pretty cruel to let Hunter get strung out for the Vengeances Tour, when clearly if he hadn't been Joe's son nobody would have interfered with the plea bargain that had been made.
What would you think of Biden agreeing to pardon Trump in exchange for Trump dropping the Vengeances Tour?

As for Biden, it shouldn’t matter if he thought he would win the election or not. He proved once again what everybody already know: a politician’s word is absolutely worthless.

In real life, and no different from politics, different circumstances may call for different commitments. Nothing is totally static in the world. I tend to agree with Emerson: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" - Ralph Waldo Emerson, and think that stubbornly clinging to the same beliefs or actions regardless of new information or situations is a recipe for failure.

I don't care as much about the lie/change of heart as I do about familial pardons, as with Jared's father. I'm not alone:
Some Democrats are frustrated over Joe Biden reversing course and pardoning his son Hunter
RepuQs never differ with their Dear Leader.
"tax evasion and falsifying a federal weapons purchase form"
I think it's funny that Hunter got busted for being too Republican.

John Dean Reveals Biden Move That Could Doom Trump's 'Revenge' Plot
The Watergate figure said the president could "take the wind" out of Trump's plans for revenge and retribution with a stroke of his pen.
Thoughts?
Though it seems likely I'm not sure I'm ready to say that TRE45QN's targets have broken no laws at all. Limited pardons?
Aside: It's refreshing to cite Muskless Bluesky. Plus, responses to tweets are visible to me, something Elon took away from nonregistrants like me.
The Watergate figure said the president could "take the wind" out of Trump's plans for revenge and retribution with a stroke of his pen.
... He also added that the list of those to receive pardons should include everyone on the House Jan. 6 committee, who Trump has said should be jailed, as well as former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and retired Army Gen. Mark Milley, the former chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff whom Trump has accused of “treasonous acts,” as well as many others.
Not everyone is on board with the idea, variations of which have been floated by others on social media.
Former federal prosecutor Randall Eliason wrote:
Dean was once dubbed the “master manipulator” of the Watergate scandal by the FBI before ultimately turning on Nixon, setting the stage for his resignation from the presidency.

I thought a person had to be charged with/convicted of something for a pardon to be issued. Maybe not. If not, I wholeheartedly support pardons for everyone on Trump's lists.
Problem is, that wouldn't really keep him from making their lives miserable in other ways. Sic the FBI to dig up dirt, trash them to their work/professional associates, make up shit to publish...yada.

Nixon had not yet been charged when Ford pardoned him.
Yup. In many cases that's more likely than really charging, anyhow.Problem is, that wouldn't really keep him from making their lives miserable in other ways. Sic the FBI to dig up dirt, trash them to their work/professional associates, make up shit to publish...yada.

Just one? Big whoop.Biden beats Trump’s record of judicial confirmations with 235th appointee
Democrats had put emphasis on federal courts following Trump’s first term, when he filled three supreme court seats
Joe Biden secured the 235th judicial confirmation of his presidency Friday, an accomplishment that exceeds his predecessor’s total by one after Democrats put extra emphasis on the federal courts following Donald Trump’s far-reaching first term, when he filled three seats on the supreme court.
... Biden and Senate Democrats placed particular focus on adding women, minorities and public defenders to the judicial rank. About two-thirds of Biden’s appointees are women and a solid majority of appointees are people of color. The most notable appointee was the supreme court justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first African American woman to serve on the nation’s highest court.

Cool.... Biden also placed an emphasis on bringing more civil rights lawyers, public defenders and labor rights lawyers to expand the professional backgrounds of the federal judiciary. More than 45 appointees are public defenders and more than two dozen served as civil rights lawyers.
While Biden did get more district judges confirmed than Trump, he had fewer higher-tier circuit court appointments than Trump – 45 compared with 54 for Trump. And he got one supreme court appointment compared with three for Trump. Republicans, much to Democrats’ frustration, filled Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the court the week before the 2020 presidential election. Ginsburg had passed away that September.

Okay then, but the left won't be smiling for long.... Liberal-leaning advocacy groups said they are delighted with the number of judges Democrats secured, but even more so with the quality of the nominees. They said diversity in personal and professional backgrounds improves judicial decision-making, helps build public trust and inspires people from all walks of life to pursue legal careers.
“For our federal judiciary to actually deliver equal justice for all, it really has to be for all, and that is one reason why we certainly applaud this administration for prioritizing both professional but also demographic diversity,” said Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
... Trump will inherit nearly three dozen judicial vacancies, but that number is expected to rise because of Republican-appointed judges who held off on retirement in hopes that a Republican would return to office and pick their replacements....

Re: Joltin' Joe Biden
Good for Joe, Paris, Congress, and the kids.Biden signs 50 bills, including 1 backed by Paris Hilton, on Christmas Eve
... Here are a few of the most pressing pieces of holiday legislation:
Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act
Celebrity singer and actress Paris Hilton has spent months pushing for a federal law that will hold treatment centers and care facilities serving youth accountable. She made frequent appearances on Capitol Hill to encourage lawmakers to pass the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act in the House and Senate.
December proved to be a fruitful month as the Senate unanimously approved the measure and the House voted 367 to 33, sending the bill to President Biden’s desk. He signed the act into law on Tuesday, securing a political victory for Hilton, who expressed potential interest in serving as an elected official.
It's about time. 30+ years ago I saw Jello Biafra give a Spoken word performance live in Missoula almost entirely trashing schools in the woods for "troubled" youth and the wealthy, disinterested parents who sent them there, perhaps because Montana was one such destination. Utah became even more famous for abusive practices.
Stop Campus Hazing Act ...

Federal building renamings
Biden signed several bills to rename federal buildings. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) community clinic in Lynchburg, Va., will now be known as the Private First Class Desmond T. Doss VA Clinic....

The 2016 feature film Hacksaw Ridge was based on his life.Desmond Thomas Doss (February 7, 1919 – March 23, 2006) was a United States Army corporal who served as a combat medic with an infantry company in World War II. Due to his religious beliefs, he refused to carry a weapon.
He was twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions on Guam and in the Philippines. Doss further distinguished himself in the Battle of Okinawa by saving an estimated 75 men, acting on his own, becoming the first of only three conscientious objectors to receive the Medal of Honor for this and other actions, the others being Thomas W. Bennett and Joseph G. LaPointe Jr., who were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War....
