Letitia James Sets Sights on Greg Abbott
Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s recent pardon of Daniel Perry, who shot and killed a Black Lives Matter protester in 2020, is receiving backlash from state attorneys general around the country.
A group of 14 state attorneys general, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, sent a letter on Wednesday to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s office urging the Department of Justice to look into whether Perry violated any federal civil rights laws. In addition to James, the letter was signed by the Democratic attorneys general of Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
“We urge the Department to open an investigation into whether Mr. Perry violated federal criminal law, including specifically several federal criminal civil rights laws,” the letter states. “We note that whether or not Texas law gives Mr. Perry a defense to state prosecution for his actions here, Texas law does not prevent a federal prosecution for Mr. Perry’s act of killing someone for racial reasons in order to prevent him from exercising constitutional rights.”...

Terrorists.Donald Trump Shares Post Warning About Next War in US
This year will be the new 1776, a post reshared by Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social reads, "except this time the fight is not against the British, it's against communist Americans."
The original post, published by a Trump supporter who on her profile repeatedly associates President Joe Biden with the devil and calls for his impeachment as well as the firing of "all Democrats," was reshared by the embattled former president on Saturday night, with no additional comment....
"The establishment is trying to start a war in an effort to dissolve the U.S. constitution," podcaster and MAGA supporter Tim Pool posted on X, formerly Twitter. In another post published on the day of the verdict, he simply wrote: "War." Pool has 2 million followers on X....
"Do you want us to be in a civil war? Because that's what's going to happen. We're not going to keep putting up with this," said former Alaska Governor and Trump ally Sarah Palin during an interview with Newsmax earlier this week, calling for Trump supporters to "get angry, rise up and take our country back."
... Experts fear that a violent mobilization of Trump supporters might be possible in the near future. "Trump retains an ironclad ability to mobilize more extreme supporters to action, both at the ballot box and through violence," Jacob Ware, a research fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations studying terrorism and extremism, wrote on X.
"His repeated insistence that he is being mistreated will inevitably lead to violent mobilization."

Arizona man planned a mass shooting targeting African Americans at an Atlanta concert to incite a race war, feds say
A federal grand jury indicted Mark Adams Prieto on charges of firearms trafficking, transfer of a firearm for use in a hate crime and possession of an unregistered firearm.
... He also said that he wanted to target a rap concert because there would be a high concentration of African Americans there and he planned to leave confederate flags after the shooting to send a message that “we’re going to fight back now, and every whitey will be the enemy across the whole country,” and to shout “whities out here killing, what’s we gonna do” and “KKK all the way,” the affidavit says. Prieto said he wanted to show “no mercy, no quarter.”
... Law enforcement subsequently executed a search warrant at his home and recovered more firearms (178), including an unregistered short-barreled rifle, the Justice Department said Tuesday.

Texas Woman Accused Of Trying To Drown Muslim Child In Racist Attack
3 years old![]()

Good. Not mentioned in the first article:‘Not OK:’ North Texas community denounces alleged attempted murder of 2 Palestinian children
Community leaders came together on Saturday to denounce the alleged hate-motivated attempted murder of two children in Euless last month.
District 92 Rep. Salman Bhojani, whose district includes part of Euless, said hate has no place anywhere in Texas.
“The trauma and pain this has caused for the immigrant community broadly and Muslim community more specifically cannot be understated,” Bhojani said at a news conference Saturday.
“Hate against one community is hate against all of us, and we can’t sit around and let crimes like these become the norm in our great state of Texas.”
... The mother told CAIR that the suspect “snatched” the hijab off her head and used it to beat her. The woman also kicked Mrs. H in order to keep her away while she held the 3-year-old’s head underwater.
A man helped Mrs. H rescue her daughter from the attacker, according to the release from CAIR....
Bhojani praised the actions of the man who rushed to help the mother and children and those who called police.
“Neighbors helping neighbors. That’s the Texas I know,” he said.

Throw away the key.... Bhojani said he’s been in touch with Euless police and was told they let judicial authorities know the woman’s actions should be prosecuted as a hate crime. The ultimate decision on how to prosecute the case is up to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.
Wolf is charged with attempted capital murder and injury to a child, according to court records. She bonded out of jail shortly after her arrest.
No RepuQs, Bubbas or Baptists?... “It’s very bad — I’m appalled by what has happened,” said Neeraj Bajracharya, vice president of the Nepalese Buddhist Association of Texas.
Euless resident Aileen Mokuria saw the story on Saturday morning on Instagram and wanted to help. She called a community activist, who suggested she attend the news conference.
“I just want to be able to support the family and also make sure that we’re all loud and clear that this behavior is not OK,” Mokuria said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family. The father has had to take time off work to accompany his wife and children on appointments and errands.

Arizona county Republican leader threatened to ‘lynch’ election official
A Republican in Arizona’s largest county threatened to “lynch” the top county election official during a public event three months ago, according to a newly unearthed video clip circulating on social media.
The election official, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, posted a video of the comment to X on Monday. In it, Maricopa Republican Party Vice Chair Shelby Busch points to one of Richer’s reelection campaign opponents and calls him a “good Christian man.” She then contrasts him with Richer, who is Jewish.
“If Stephen Richer walked in this room, I would lynch him,” Busch says in the video. “I don't unify with people who don't believe in the principles we believe in and the American cause that founded this country.”
Full text:
Back to the article:"If Stephen Richer walked in this room, I would lynch him."
This is Shelby Busch.
She is second-in-command for the Maricopa County Republican Committee (@MaricopaGOP). She was the county party's 2023 "volunteer of the year." She's an advisor to Kari Lake and others.
She also runs an "election integrity" group called "We The People AZ" that receives funding from Mike Lindell, Patrick Byrne, and Mike Flynn.
Interesting choice of words. Not, "I'd kick his butt," or "I'd kill him."
But "lynch." Why does that word roll off her tongue given its historical context?
She says this after talking about good Christian values.
And while some in the room laugh, nobody shouts out in protest. Nobody says, "that's too far."
This isn't healthy. And it's not responsible. And we shouldn't want it as part of the Republican Party.
Won't denounce it, figures.... The remark was made during a March 20 campaign event in Mesa, Ariz., for Republican Jerone Davison, who is running for a U.S. House seat, and was first live streamed on the conservative social media platform Rumble. Davison on Monday defended Busch on X as a “woman of faith” and said she was not expressing “any kind of racial hatred.”
... The opponent of Richer who Busch singled out as a “good Christian” at the event, Don Hiatt, did not respond to a request for comment.

Hero.Busch’s remarks come amid intensifying rhetoric against election officials in Arizona, who have been “in the crosshairs” of continuing threats, the state U.S. Attorney's Office said earlier this year. Busch is an activist with We the People AZ Alliance, a conservative group that has falsely claimed that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump and which has been cited in the past by Senate candidate Kari Lake. Richer has worked publicly to combat conspiracy theories about elections in Arizona, including through an alliance with the state’s Democratic secretary of state.
It's a MAGAt trend. Assholes.Richer noted that Busch’s rhetoric was especially sensitive in Maricopa County, after an Iowa man was imprisoned last year after threatening to lynch the Republican county supervisor because he did not investigate false allegations of voter fraud....

A Trump Ally Is Training 75 Armed Citizens. Is That a Militia?
Bruce Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, holds an umbrella over former President Donald Trump as Trump speaks in Massapequa Park, N.Y., March 28, 2024.
... Blakeman’s opponents say that giving police powers to civilian gun owners could result in accidental shootings and is an implied threat to minorities and political enemies.
“It’s fearmongering, and it’s very damaging to people,” said Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, the Democratic minority leader of the county Legislature.
“It’s the opposite way we want to be going, a private militia with guns,” she said. “We’re trying to work on gun control, rather than promote them.”
... Jay Jacobs, the Democratic Party chair for both Nassau County and New York state, accused Blakeman of using such issues to distract voters from his lack of progress on cutting property taxes and fees and fixing the property assessment system.
“This is all to solidify his extreme right-wing base,” Jacobs said. “Instead of solving the county’s problems, he’s appealing to the right wing by speaking the language they like: militia, guns, law and order.”
“There is no problem he is looking to solve,” Jacobs added. “Does he think we’re going to be invaded by Suffolk County?”
... DeRiggi-Whitton said in an interview that she had heard from Jewish residents who likened Blakeman’s initiative to the rise of Nazi forces under Hitler. One person referenced the Brownshirts, a paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party formed in the 1920s....

Will we look back on these times and say, "We were warned"?

Good, locking them up.3 men sentenced for racist conspiracy plot to destroy Northwest power grid
Three men were sentenced to prison for their roles in plotting to attack an energy facility to further their "violent white supremacist ideology," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement Friday....
“As part a self-described ‘modern day SS,’ these defendants conspired, prepared, and trained to attack America’s power grid in order to advance their violent white supremacist ideology,” said Garland said.
The three men - Paul James Kryscuk, 38 of Idaho; Liam Collins, 25 of Rhode Island; and Justin Wade Hermanson, 25 of North Carolina - were given sentences ranging from 21 months to 10 years for their roles in conspiracy and firearms offenses....
Scary that it's a national thing.Their sentencing is the latest development in energy attacks across the U.S. by saboteurs looking to blow up or cripple power grids. People vandalized or shot at power substations in Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington state, causing major power outages in one instance.
... Collins and co-defendant Jordan Duncan, of North Carolina, were former Marines, stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and used their status to illegally obtain military equipment and information for the plot. According to the indictment, they wanted to use 50 pounds of homemade explosives to destroy transformers.
The men could be seen in a propaganda video wearing Atomwaffen masks and giving the "Heil Hitler" sign. The Southern Poverty Law Center designated Atomwaffen as a terroristic neo-Nazi group.

If they try to take away my AC I'll get my own AR-15 and take care of business... In 2023, the Department of Homeland Security warned that domestic extremists have been developing plans since at least 2020 to physically attack energy infrastructure for civil unrest. The attacks, especially during extreme temperatures could threaten American lives, the department wrote.

White supremacist leaders plotted assassinations to start race war: federal indictment
Two leaders of a white supremacist group have been charged after allegedly plotting assassinations and terrorist attacks that they hoped would bring on a race war.
In a 37-page indictment unsealed by federal prosecutors on Monday, Dallas Erin Humber, 34, and Matthew Robert Allison, 37, were accused of leading a network of channels on the Telegram app that promoted "white supremacist accelerationism."
Court filings said the ideology was "centered on the belief that the white race is superior," and the leaders hoped to start a race war that would collapse the government to create a "white ethnostate."...

Re: Guns, race, religion, terror, wingnut thread
They're working on that. I've been griping about this for years:
DoD doesn't want to admit the problem by systematically addressing it.His country trained him to fight. Then he turned against it. More like him are doing the same
The U.S. military trained him in explosives and battlefield tactics. Now the Iraq War veteran and enlisted National Guard member was calling for taking up arms against police and government officials in his own country.
... While the number of people involved remains small, the participation of active military and veterans gave extremist plots more potential for mass injury or death, according to data collected and analyzed by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, or START, at the University of Maryland. START researchers found that more than 80% of extremists with military backgrounds identified with far-right, anti-government or white supremacist ideologies, with the rest split among far-left, jihadist or other motivations.
In the shadow of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol — led in part by veterans — and a closely contested presidential election, law enforcement officials have said the threat from domestic violent extremists is one of the most persistent and pressing terror threats to the United States. However, despite the increasing participation in extremist activity by those with military experience, there is still no force-wide system to track it. And the AP learned that Defense Department researchers developed a promising approach to detect and monitor extremism that the Pentagon has chosen not to use.
Wow.... when people with military backgrounds “radicalize, they tend to radicalize to the point of mass violence,” said START’s Michael Jensen, who leads the team that has spent years compiling and vetting the dataset.
His group found that among extremists “the No. 1 predictor of being classified as a mass casualty offender was having a U.S. military background – that outranked mental health problems, that outranked being a loner, that outranked having a previous criminal history or substance abuse issues.”
The data tracked individuals with military backgrounds, most of whom were veterans, involved in plans to kill, injure or inflict damage for political, social, economic or religious goals. While some violent plots in the data were unsuccessful, those that succeeded killed and hurt dozens of people. Since 2017, nearly 100 people have been killed or injured in these plots, nearly all in service of an anti-government, white supremacist or far-right agenda. Those numbers do not include any of the violence on Jan. 6, which left scores of police officers injured....
In messages to AP from a federal prison in Tennessee, he said he is a target of “political warfare.”
“I’m a political prisoner,” he wrote, echoing the language former President Donald Trump and others have used to minimize the crimes committed in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
In Arthur’s view, the imprisonment of “vets and patriots” like himself and the attempted assassination of Trump in Pennsylvania prophesy the civil war he has long argued is coming.
“This is happening,” he wrote. “All the signs are there.”
