The LEO thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I believe that I've bitched about police unions here a time or two, and one of the worst has been NYC's.
New York City police union leader resigns after FBI raid on headquarters

The FBI raided the Manhattan offices of a New York City police union Tuesday, and hours later, the union's outspoken leader resigned.

Bearing a warrant, agents searched the headquarters of the fifth-biggest police union in the country, the Sergeants Benevolent Association, or SBA, which represents 13,000 active and retired New York City police sergeants.

Simultaneously, FBI agents searched a home in the Long Island suburb of Port Washington, an FBI spokesperson said. It belongs to Ed Mullins, who has led the union since 2002, sources said....

It was not immediately clear why the FBI targeted the SBA and Mullins' home. The FBI spokesperson told the New York Daily News that the agency was "carrying out a law enforcement action in connection with an ongoing investigation."

Members of the public corruption unit of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York were also involved in the raid, The New York Times reported....

The son of a dockworker, Mullins, who was raised in Greenwich Village, has frequently clashed with police leaders and de Blasio.

His acerbic Twitter posts have included calling a City Council member a "first class whore" and calling a former health commissioner a "b----." In response to the 2014 officer-involved shooting death of Michael Brown, a Black teenager, and the subsequent protests, he said, "Ferguson, Missouri was a lie and a nation of police have been under attack ever since."

Mullins remains a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump.

The SBA's bylaws require Mullins to continue working as a police sergeant; records show that he is not assigned to a specific post. And while he was paid $133,195 by the city last year, his full-time job was running the SBA, which pays him an additional salary.

The union paid Mullins $88,757 in 2019, according to the SBA's most recent paperwork, which listed him as a trustee.
Awww, I feel sooo bad for the union and Mullins. Blue union lives matter?

Chicago police union head urges cops to defy vaccine mandate

I'm okay with stupid cops dying.
Stupid cops

"Covid-19 is the No. 1 killer of police officers. So why do their unions oppose mandating vaccines?"

"Alarmed over the skyrocketing number of covid-19 infections and deaths at its meatpacking plants, Tyson Foods in August mandated that all employees — from executives to workers on the kill floor — be vaccinated. The union representing meatpackers at first expressed some concerns, but it sat down with the company and reached an agreement. The company offered some new benefits, including paid sick leave, and the union supported the requirement for vaccines.

Contrast that responsible stewardship of the interests of its members with the opposition to vaccine mandates by police and other law enforcement unions. Even as the coronavirus has ravaged the rank and file of law enforcement agencies across the country, police labor leaders have threatened to go to court and called for defiance from union members. The response to the coronavirus has tragically been politicized — starting with the absurd demonization of masks — but the refusal of these police unions to abide by vaccine mandates, recognized by other unions including those representing teachers as a vital tool to safeguard public health, represents a new low."

Los Angeles County asks court to force Vanessa Bryant to take psychiatric exam in lawsuit

Four Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies share photos of Kobe Bryant, the Bryant's daughter and the seven others who were killed in the helicopter crash.
Bryant said that photos were spread to at least 10 members of the department within 48 hours, and that one deputy took up to 100 photos on his personal phone. She also said that Sheriff Alex Villanueva allegedly told his deputies that they wouldn’t face discipline if they deleted the photos, and didn’t tell internal affairs about it until after the news was made public.
Deliberate coverup. :x
Bryant’s attorneys slammed the county for trying to force her and others — including “four teenagers, a 10-year-old child and a 5-year-old kindergartner” — to submit to involuntary psychiatric exams.
“Unable to defend the indefensible conduct of its employees who took and shared horrific photographs of Plaintiffs’ deceased loved ones. … the County has resorted to scorched-earth discovery tactics designed to bully Plaintiffs into abandoning their pursuit of accountability,” the plaintiffs’ attorneys stated, via USA Today. “After seeking intrusive discovery into everything from Plaintiffs’ privileged therapist records and middle school report cards, the County now seeks to compel the victims of its employees’ misconduct … to undergo involuntary psychiatric examinations.”
Los Angeles County is also trying to block the depositions of Villanueva and fire department chief Daryl Osby.
“Adding insult to injury, the County is making this demand while simultaneously refusing to make two of its key witnesses … available for a routine deposition,” the plaintiffs’ attorneys stated, via USA Today. “Apparently, in the County’s estimation, top officials should be shielded from providing any testimony, but the victims should not only withstand the emotional toll of a full-day deposition, but also submit to an eight-hour involuntary psychiatric examination simply because they had the audacity to demand accountability for Defendants’ disrespect of the dead and callous intrusion upon their private grief.”
Fucking pigs.

Here's one....Pierce County WA sheriff gets out of bed in the middle of the night to follow a newspaper delivery guy who he thinks is stealing packages from porches. Never mind that those deliveries do not happen in the middle of the night. The sheriff also lied that the paper guy "threatened to kill me."
https://www.insider.com/sheriff-walked- ... him-2021-3

Here's the message I sent the sheriff about this tragic incident.
Hey, sheriff shithead, I read about your horrific encounter with a newspaper delivery guy back in January. My tolerance for lying scared shitless cops is low but I have decided to give you some sage advice. If you're so goddamn scared, maybe you should stay in the office or better yet stay in bed. I suspect you don't have 37 years on the force but instead you have one year of experience 37 times. Again, if you're as stupid and as scared as the story I read seems to indicate, you really should stay in the office. That way you won't embarrass yourself or your department. Meanwhile I hope you get the maximum sentence for your lying and your ignorance. Keep up the good work.

All my contact information is included in the above. I hope to hear from him soon.

Woman and newborn baby ‘saved by her Ring cam’ as heavily armed marshals raid wrong home

Heavily armed United States marshals entered the wrong house in Florida’s Bradenton city without a warrant, frightening a woman who was inside with her newborn.

Kada Staples said she felt violated and traumatised by the incident, according to Fox 13 News. She shared her story in a TikTok post on Saturday, and alleged that the marshals went into the wrong apartment.

“When the US Marshals show up to your house and rush you and your newborn baby out, running all through your home telling you they know you are lying and you’re hiding someone in there just to find out they’re at the wrong apartment,” she wrote while sharing a compilation of videos.

“We were taking a nap and my Ring doorbell kept alerting me that there was motion detected,” Ms Staples said. “When I clicked on it [the doorbell app], there were two men standing there in bulletproof vests with guns pointing at my door.”

... Another video showed Ms Staples holding her child and crying at the end of the hallway. She was accompanied by an officer, while others stand in front of her door. The last video in the compilation showed her sobbing while saying “you guys came to the wrong apartment.”

The officers then left the floor as Ms Staples, still crying, returned to her apartment.

“Thank god for my Ring doorbell or else they were going to bust in. I am shaking. I had guns pointed on me and my baby from every direction,” she wrote on TikTok....

The US Marshals Service said the officers entered Ms Staples’ building when they were chasing a suspect. They added that they were “engaged by a woman” in Staples’ unit but did not enter her apartment. The video, though, shows the marshals entering Ms Staples’ apartment briefly.

Over the years, and don't ask how, I've learned that in general cops do not appreciate being called stupid. Even though they may appear to be stupid. I think part of the image has to do with them having constantly to doubt anything a "member of the public" (ie, potential suspect) is telling them. Both for their own safety and to avoid a reprimand from above. So they seem to adopt this blank look that can be misinterpreted as stupidity.

Kind of like self-appointed forum cops.

Yeah, I've noticed that option on just about every cop site I've ever contacted but so far have never used that one. I may have a subliminal aversion to it because it could conceivably be construed as an abuse of the system. I prefer to deliver my abuse in a more direct way. On the other hand, I might just use the "report a crime" and tell them I'm considering committing one but can't decide which one or where to do it. 8-)

I cover that by saying that what the cop/s did was "criminal".

More seriously, these are LEO flubs. The last thing that they'd want to do is bring more attention to them by chasing us. Also, it's obvious I'm not actually reporting a normal crime that I expect them to investigate. Nothing fraudulent about that. It's free speech regardless of venue. Sometimes, I clarify by griefing them for not having a "contact us" option.
