The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Well, it's in the southwest part of Canada and in the southwest of BC, but the event tries and does attract from a wide area, largely from the US northwest and California. But yeah, the big car show in Spokane is "Northwest" too, and attracts people from all over, including Canada, so maybe they're all related somehow. Anyway, there's some fine iron running around.

I don't know where to put this, but here it is anyway
She's pissed at her husband, drunk, declares that she's going to drive the wrong way on I-75, does drive the wrong way and kills a family.

That's a awful story. And she walked away. Or at least got perp-walked away.
Wonder why she was charged with 6 counts of murder for killing 3 people.

Not that I understand it:
https://www.whio.com/news/local/things- ... woV8LfZ6L/
... Though there were three victims, Michaels is charged with six counts of murder. Based on Ohio law, three of the charges relate to the defendant using a deadly weapon (her vehicle), and three of the charges relate to the defendant causing serious physical harm, according to Assistant Prosecutor John Amos....
Doesn't every murder cause "serious physical harm"?

My Z28 Camaro was made in Canada; January 99.
As for 1 CAT FAN's poster, I will say that one of those all wheel drive Subaru WRX would beat the Camaro, Challenger, or Mustang. Not long ago, I read a story about some guy who had one of those Dodge Hellcats and was humiliated by a Subaru. The moral of the story was "do not race with an all wheel drive car; you'll lose."

Waltz of Merging Traffic - Tesla Nav on Autopilot
It worked fine for me, but it's probably because you're routing through Belgium, having gotten the link from somewhere else. When that happens or the url is longer or formatted differently than a typical YT url, just search the video title and you get the more direct https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4RFHZetPTM . This is also what you usually need to do in order to show the video here.

BMW didn't make the list.

Umm, that may be because the M5 is still made by der elves near the Black Forest. Thus the name "Bavarian Motor Werks." The US-made bimmers don't claim to be the fastest.

What's your opinion comparing Tesla, BMW and a Mini convertible
Mini's are, according to a lot of knowledgeable people, one of the coolest, best driving, most fun unreliable money pits you can get. When we were looking for a car to tow behind the motorcoach, I was wanting a Mini badly, specifically the Countryman model. The more I found out about them, the further they fell down the list. Doesn't help in our case that you apparently have to go to a dealer for practically anything/everything.

I love Bimmers. If I were going to get another high performance luxury-type car, BMW would be at the top of the list, and there would be a long way down to #2. Definitely not a cheap ride, but totally earns it's "Ultimate Driving Machine" tag. I drove them from the 2002 boxy looking series through the fairly recent 3 series, and once including one like the 3.0csi below. My opinion might be a little biased.

I didn't know Tesla was a real car, but it is definitely a fine looking golf cart. (Real answer: I don't know much about Teslas.)

Isn't "Made in America" a rather fluid phrase when it comes to cars, too?

I wish Musk hadn't been such an asshole about the Thailand cave rescue. It makes it harder to appreciate Tesla, SpaceX, etc.

"Fluid" to say the least. Actually, counting final assembly plus parts assembly and parts origination, the most "American" car is apparently the Toyota Tundra. Most people consider "made in" to be final assembly, but that badly confuses the people to whom "Buy American" cars is important. They like to think the original "American" cars still are, because of ownership. Nevermind that there have been mergers, partnerships, public stock, yada that keep "ownership" vague. Or that cars like Honda, Toyota, and BMW keep lots of Americans in jobs in their home towns.

But sure, if you want to compare speed of CAT's muscle cars to most imported cars available at the time, then he's got a point. Of course, the imports available at the time didn't claim to compete for speed with the muscle cars so the pic is somewhat of a straw man anyway. Why am I not shocked?

BMW says it is the most powerful M5 ever.
The 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine produces 617 horsepower, 17 more than the M5. It's zero to 60 mile-per-hour time is 3.1 seconds. Going from zero to 124 mph comes in 10.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds than in the standard M5. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Top speed is 155 mph.
