2016 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I just know we're going to get blamed for this.

Donald Trump's grandfather built the original family fortune running a Canadian brothel during gold rush.

Donald met his first wife, Ivana, at the Montreal Olympics.

He owns a substantial amount of Canadian real estate.

Before the election he used to call for a Canadian-style single-payer system.

While he demands a border wall with Mexico, he's pledged not to build one with Canada, saying "I love Canada."

People are comparing the conditions and methods that led to his popularity, to those of Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

He uses Canadian musician Neil Young's music for his campaign events.

Most telling: He's a long-time birther. But now that he's officialy in the race he's reversed his position on Ted Cruz, saying that someone Canadian-born is eligible to be President.

Blame? Given that he will never become POTUS, we owe Canada a HUUUUGE thanks for Trump's destruction of the GOP.

Speaking of Canada - the "Mrs." and I were in Canada a couple or so years ago and she bought a really pretty jacket of the, a "True North" brand. It had a nice maple leaf on the sleeve, "True North" name, and the label stated "Strong and Free". The fine print said "made in China." She asked if they had something actually made in Canada, but no. She bought it anyway, what the hell. I also bought a nice sweater, also not from Canada, but at least mine said "Fabrique en Chine." There's no point here, except it's just continually discouraging to run into instances where the severe and unrecoverable losses of in-country manufacturing are so obvious. The good part, I guess, is that when Trump is President he'll "make" all those companies stop going to other countries.

Scott Walker to drop out of race: sources

LOL, there was a time when I thought Koch-puppet Walker might be one of the more formidable nominees. The 2016 GOP Klown Kar is explained by GOP voters.

A CNN/ORC poll released on Sunday found Walker, who was once leading the crowded GOP field, registered less than half a percentage point of support among Republican voters.

Then again, not all of the 1% are GOP.

Scott Walker's awkward, whiny, 'leading by quitting' exit is getting trashed by both the left and the right. We can all get along.

If he gets in the same room with her, he'll probably try for her, and call her names, publically & repeatedly, if she tells him to bugger off.
People are crazy and times are strange. I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range.
I used to care, but, things have changed.

More Trump. Got somebody in his stable of lawyers to send a nasty cease and desist letter to a group running negative ads against him.

She flubbed the response royally, but she took responsibility for it (Trump never does), made fun of herself, and it probably helped her modeling career.

Otoh, the question was bogus. It's unlikely that this was Aimee Teegarden's fault, but rather the fault of the pageant organizers - ultimately, you guessed it, Donald Trump - that gave her the question.

It was a 2006 Roper Public Affairs poll of 18-24 year old Americans that were asked to point out the US on a world map. Page 26: 94% got it right! Bad, but not 20% bad.

I don't recall anyone calling foul on the question.

It's an 'effin beauty pageant, ferpetesake. You expect thoughtful questions? But her "second chance" answer on Good Morning America was much better - starting out with something like "all my friends and I can find the US on a map and everybody I know can. But if there are that many who can't, they should improve geography classes"

Caitlin has done pretty well for herself - third place in "Amazing Race," some modeling/ad work, and now a real estate agent in CA.

Of course not, but accurate facts would be nice, as would pageant/Aimee Teegarden mea culpas when the contestant is getting raked over the coals for her answer. Anyhow, I just thought it was interesting trivia that Caitlin Upton's flub wasn't the only one.

Cait's answer in this case was so bad it wouldn't have mattered what the question had been. She got flustered, and when she made errors became more so. But her hours and hours of beauty contest training kicked in and kept her looking pretty and saying the things she had learned about responses... give examples, "such as" , expand the question.. "the Iraq"... Unfortunately the automatic training didn't engage her brain. She definitely made the right move to own her goof and make fun of herself.
