Re: The Religion Thread
Drop blasphemy charges against Sanal Edamaruku
There is no telling how much money he cost the church by debunking their little "miracle". They aren't just going to forget it.
Petition is here: http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/d ... -edamaruku
If anyone thinks it'll do any good....

My first look at that pic told me that was the imprint of a Philips-screw head.
After reading your link, others bloggers had the same notion.
That woman got screwed by Philip.

.Last summer, we launched a petition calling on India's Catholic authorities to use their influence to encourage the Mumbai-based Catholic organisations to drop their complaints
'Cause Catholic authorities have such a great track record, all the way back to the 10th century . . . .

Who was it that said there's a sucker born every minute? Or you can't fix stupid? $8100. How many people could have been fed off that one nugget?Vrede wrote:Maybe, "Last year, a Nebraska woman sold a Chicken McNugget on eBay for $8,100 after becoming convinced it contained the visage of George Washington."Leo Lyons wrote:My first look at that pic told me that was the imprint of a Philips-screw head.

You poor ignorant, offended, little crybaby. Piper's joke was in the May 2013 Reader's Digest joke section.Ombudsman wrote:Characterizing atheists as angry emotive types who are the targets of some clever condescending Christian is no different than telling jokes about a black guy eating watermelon and fried chicken. The joke might work better in a Jack Chick tract.
Now, make another mountain out of a friggin' molehill.

Your mother doesn't think I'm strange; keep her scuzzy ass off the streets, and I wouldn't be a mother fucker.

You'd have to leave the attic every now and then to know what's going on in the street. Seriously, what's wrong with you? Have you been diagnosed?

Nothing. What's your problem? You can't read or comprehend?
Have you been diagnosed?
Have you been diagnosed as to why you're so obsessed with me? If you're sending subtle signals, forget it, I'm not interested.

Re: The Religion Thread
I took that as what the bible teaches Christians to do, not necessarily what their individual beliefs and faith are. In other words, races we're freed in spite of the principles that came from bible and fundamentalist church teachings.Vrede wrote:Is he historically correct re "the colored races" and slavery when it comes to the Quakers and some of the Christian sects? My understanding is that faith was central to abolition, as it was after his time to the civil rights movement. Not that I care about the answer other than for accuracy's sake.
You can have the belief in God and be against slavery or for slavery, but only pro-slavery views are represented in the actual teachings of the bible AFAIK. I see it as similar to Christians that support gay rights, the bible doesn't teach it, it's coming from within them.

Re: The Religion Thread
An old logician like Berty should know to be careful about using every. Here's another
quote from the same speech that I like better.:
The whole conception of God is a conception derived from the ancient Oriental despotisms. It is a conception quite unworthy of free men. When you hear people in church debasing themselves and
saying that they are miserable sinners, and all the rest of it, it seems contemptible and not worthy
of self-respecting human beings. We ought to stand up and look the world frankly in the face. We
ought to make the best we can of the world, and if it is not so good as we wish, after all it will still
be better than what these others have made of it in all these ages. A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past, or a fettering of the
free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men.
