Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The first comment I saw was, "Too little, too late." McCrory sounds like the folks that became domestic partner fans well after their opposition to it threw open the door to going for full marriage rights.

My guess is that would refer to other states that don't have specific protections against discrimination toward LGBT. While IMNVHO that protection should be federal, applicable everywhere, not having that law isn't direct evidence of condoning discrimination. NC is different in that it had no individual discrimination law before, but created one intentionally and conspicuously leaving out LGBT and then putting an exclamation point on it by doing the bathroom thing. You won't be finding anybody else that's done that...yet.

I'm guessing the drooling right-wingers in the NC Legislature didn't bother to read that EEOC interprets and enforces Title VII's prohibition of sex discrimination to include employment discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation. These protections apply regardless of any contrary state or local laws. Here's what they should have read... https://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/newsroom/wysk ... orkers.cfm

On the list of specific actions considered discriminatory - "Denying an employee equal access to a common restroom corresponding to the employee's gender identity."

Further, just because the droolers say a person can't sue under state law for discrimination doesn't mean they can't sue the state (or state units that follow the discrimination requirement such as UNC, etc.) under federal law and in federal court.

So even though the EEOC doesn't give any protection to a non-employee being required to use a cross-gender loo, every state agency and organization has employees who will be directly affected.

Idiots.

Plus, Title IX can really zap our federal school funding. The laws are what they are, but some of the federal aggressiveness on behalf of LGBTQs will potentially be affected by who the next POTUS is.

Part of the bald faced lie is that NC also went significantly beyond states that don't include LGBTQ protection in their nondiscrimination law by precluding localities from enacting their own nondiscrimination protections. If it weren't so sad it would be funny watching the GOP trying to weasel out of what everyone knows they did.

Idiots.

I didn't know that there were 39 states without Home Rule, and 8 others with limits. Being mostly Floridian most of my adult life, I thought Home Rule was common. Here's a good explanation... http://www.nlc.org/build-skills-and-net ... -authority

So the droolers will argue, correctly, that Charlotte had no autonomous right to pass an ordinance on LGBT protection, and that it is within the rights of the State to prohibit Charlotte or anywhere else from doing so - along with stealing Asheville's water, Charlotte and Asheville's airport, and doing whatever else they want to do to punish those they don't like. So far, the law is on their side. But they don't have the authority to trample on rights granted to individuals by the Constitution. I'm guessing it will be mainly a 14th Amendment case. The droolers will argue that with regard to the restrooms, everyone is treated equally because everyone has to use the one matching their birth certificate. Which sounds good in right-wing theory if you think that transgenders are really just cross-dressers. But if you look at the clothing, etc. simply as outward manifestation of an internal condition, then you have to look at whether the underlying condition is protected. A transgendered girl in Maine won her "restroom" case in the Maine Supreme Court, based on the Maine Human Rights Act. The Maine HRA includes "sexual orientation" but not transgender, yet the Supreme Court found the school system to have discriminated in not allowing her to use the restroom matching her identity. I think Federal courts might see it the same way.

Protesters swarm courthouse, want repeal of 'Bathroom Bill'
Controversial bill brings more than 120 protesters to call for its repeal on courthouse steps

Pretty cool for Hooterville, but a 120 person demo. is hardly a "swarm". Think the headline writer was trying to make the positive article more negative or is s/he just goofy?

Embattled NC Governor Calls Gay Rights Group ‘More Powerful Than The NRA’

“The Human Rights Council. My gosh, they’re more powerful than the NRA,” McCrory told Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” alluding to the nation’s premier gun lobby.

Duh, that's how it goes with better educated majorities. Politics much?

“And they have millions of dollars, which makes me want to overturn [Citizens] United,

>>> :clap: <<<

because I don’t know who their donors are, either.

A better educated majority.

But they are putting on a lot of pressure,

Awww.

instead of having good dialogue.”

:-0?> Where was the "good dialogue" before the hurried special session to enact bigotry and suppress local control?

Despite the group’s power, McCrory didn’t have its name right; it appears he was alluding to the Human Rights Campaign, which lobbies on civil rights for the LGBT community.

>>> :lol: <<<

“I don’t think the government should be telling the private sector what their restroom and shower law should be, to allow a man into a woman’s restroom or shower facility at a YMCA, for example,” McCrory said Sunday. He added that, in his opinion, Charlotte “overstepped.”

50 years ago: I don’t think the government should be telling the private sector what their restroom and shower law should be, to allow a black into a white restroom or shower facility at a YMCA, for example,” McCrory said Sunday. He added that, in his opinion, anti-segregationists “overstepped.”

... “Do you want someone who identifies as a woman, born on their birth certificate as a man, [who] may look like a woman, going into a men’s bathroom?” Todd asked. “Is that fair to them?”

McCrory didn’t answer that one.

 Coward.
UNC Has No Idea How To Enforce The New Anti-Trans Bathroom Law
The new law has a major hole in it, and it’s unclear whether universities will punish trans students for using the “wrong” bathroom.

... “It is absurd,” Shane Windmeyer, head of LGBTQ student rights group Campus Pride, told HuffPost. “Basically the state of North Carolina passed a law that has no enforcement, strikes fear and threatens safety for trans and LGBQ people, and has negatively impacted the state economy. It makes no sense. The political motivations are highly suspect and lawmakers need to be held responsible.”

... Chapel Hill officials said they will continue to share concerns they have with the new North Carolina law with the UNC system administration, and some of the consequences the flagship university is facing, noting in their April 8 email “the impacts to Carolina go well beyond the personal toll.”

“There are implications to us,” the UNC-Chapel administrators said, “ranging from conferences that will no longer send delegates to North Carolina and our campus; concerns and a pause among some prospective students, faculty, researchers and staff; current and prospective donors who are signaling a reconsideration of their gifts; grants and relationships with businesses that are now in jeopardy; and more.”
Looks like the bigots didn't even have a "good dialogue" amongst themselves about how to make sensible law.

I'm pirating pearl jams entire discography tonight in protest of them jumping on the feel good bandwagon. Not for my own enjoyment, but for others.

Why not proceed with the show and donate the proceeds to an LGBT charity? Nah, let's penalize our fans. If anyone wants some pearl jam albums let me know. Don't bother buying them and supporting rich self absorbed douche bags, because I got your back.
