Surviving a second Trump admin

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

In case anyone missed, Colombia has "reconsidered" their original decision not to accept deportation flights.

An example of how Trump uses tariffs as a negotiating tool.
 In case anyone missed it, the US economy is 80 times the size of bullied Colombia's. The lifelong cowardly "bone spurs" Chickenhawk in Chief sure is a stud!

Why am I not surprised Vrede attempts to distract from the facts of the matter.
Why am I not surprised that SoupySales cowers from an on-point response like his idol cowered from Vietnam, then calls it a distraction? MAGAt accusations reveal themselves, always.

One must admit he is getting attention. That is the point.
And you think that getting attention is the best top priority for a President of arguably the most powerful nation in the world?
Yes. Especially since his predecessor received no attention from the rest of the world.
Delusional whataboutism defending DonOLD's ego gratification, typical Trumpette.

There is an outcry of whining from the left.
See, there's some from the last poster. It's more like a whimper though.

See, there are two MAGAts who think polishing the DonOLD brand at enormous cost defines what is good for America.

I may be incorrect, but subtracting social security and medicare, the leftover federal spending accounts for about 10-12% of GDP. Does this order essentially put a pause on ~10% of GDP? Isn't that catastrophically bad? Am I understanding this correctly?

Congress has already approved those funds. That's our tax money being held hostage that our representatives approved. Ergo, that the people of the United States approved.

Edit: it looks like a memo. Is it even legally binding? Can't it just be ignored?

Dunno, he's not canceling but pausing. It is for all grants and assistance, not for say infrastructure. It certainly mucks things up while it's trying to be figured out and it would take the courts ages to wade through.

How does this affect for example FEMA aid and assistance in WNC?

He's feeding his sickophants shiny objects like Colombia and DEI roll backs as well as muzzling the agencies that would let the public know what's going on with bird flu.

Trump pledged to bring down food prices on Day One. Instead, eggs are getting more expensive

Anybody considered the sad truth that the US government is no more trustworthy in what it says to the public than the governments in Russia and China?

I have found I miss very little by skimming past any article that starts with "Trump pledged..." and then proceeds to act as if there was ever any expectation of his "pledge" happening. Who, even among the hardest core trumpers can say with a straight face that if there were any way for a President to snap his fingers and bring down retail prices that Biden wouldn't have done it before the election?

That's kind of the point, he made these outrageous promises during the campaign with no ability or most probably even the intention to fulfill them and the weak minded, uninformed, ignorant and just plain lazy electorate voted for him while cheering wildly.

The rest of the first world is simultaneously laughing at our stupidity while being a little bit terrified, much like us.

It's only been a week, I shudder to think at what's to come as he is unchecked.

I certainly did not anticipate an immediate price reduction on items. Just like it took time for the Biden policies to cause an increase in prices it will take time for the reductions.

Real question: which specific Biden policies caused increases in prices? Many have blamed him in vague terms, but nobody ever says how.

Good luck getting a real answer on that one.

For starters, the war on fossil fuels. Regardless of one's feelings about that source they are what powers just about everything we produce or do. Secondly, the regulations associated with the "green new deal" has added to the costs of services and products. Thirdly, there have been many new regulations implemented and the left applauded these regulations. They cost of those are not absorbed, but passed on to the consumer.
