Didn't really know where to post this, so it's here. US Navy names new aircraft carrier for black sailor who distinguished himself during the Pearl Harbor attack while serving on USS West Virginia. https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-miller-nav ... 38326.html
Really strange that EVERY ship Miller was stationed on was sunk by the Japanese....
Not just any ships but a battleship, an escort carrier and a heavy cruiser. See? Blacks can excel at any task for which they're given an equal opportunity. Maybe it's not such a good idea to name a new ship for him, especially a Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier. That's a double jinx.

It is weird. And, hey, so far there's only one or two of those Ford class carriers. And that first one hasn't fallen over either at sea or in port as far as I know. But it still might run into something. I think it would be funny if trump were as clumsy as Ford was; I'd love to see him fall down a plane boarding ladder and come up with a bloody nose and broken leg. It would be a "Humpty Dumpty" "great" fall. A fall like no one's ever seen. I will tell you.

If we ever need to wreak havoc on enemy golf courses . . .

Pat Elder’s 20-city California tour will draw attention to the public health crisis caused by the military’s contamination of the environment. Read Pat’s articles on the topic here.
There is literally no realm of responsible national policy that POSPOTUS won't screw up.
I saw that story earlier and after reading it decided that this is just another juvenile trump stunt to negate something Obama did. Land mines are pretty low tech devices and have pretty much been co opted by the IED. Besides, mine laying is rather labor intensive and likely cannot be done these days without it being noticed. And trump probably doesn't give a damn about them; he just wanted to erase another Obama legacy and staying in his petty juvenile mode which, in his juvenile mind, makes him think he's clever. I would laugh my ass off if he stepped on one and it blew off his legs.

Damn, looks like yet another year where 45SHOLE does not win the Nobel Peace Prize. His adoring fanboys aren't even bothering to nominate him anymore.
Never again need a human being lack the food to live. Never again need a single child or adult suffer the horrors of starvation. Hunger as a danger to anyone can be made a thing of the past. All that is required, apart from basic skills in distributing resources, is 3 percent of the military budget of the United States.
In his “Beyond Vietnam” speech, Dr. King declared: “A nation that continues year after year to spend more on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.”
Although the pace of increase has slowed, the global trend for major conventional weapons trade remains upward, according to a March study released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). In that trade, the United States continues to account for the largest and growing share, with more than half of its weapons delivered to the conflict-torn Middle East....
The United States accounted for 36 percent of exports, up from 31 percent during 2010–2014, with identified exports of major arms to 96 states.
Russia, the only other country accounting for more than 10 percent of global exports, had 47 client states and provided 21 percent of global arms, down from 27 percent in the previous period. China, at fifth largest, was responsible for 5.5 percent of exports in each period, with Pakistan accounting for more than a third of the volume of its exports among 51 clients in the past five years.
Saudi Arabia and the Middle East
... The arms trade, especially to the Middle East, continues to be controversial domestically and internationally. Countries in that region imported 61 percent more arms during 2015–2019 compared to five years earlier, with Saudi Arabia now both the region’s and the world’s top arms importer.
Washington supplied nearly three-quarters of weapons exports to Riyadh in that period, including combat aircraft and large numbers of missiles and guided bombs. It is unclear how much of the nearly $8 billion in arms for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been delivered since Trump used emergency provisions in the Arms Export Control Act to waive congressional notification requirements last May, then used vetoes to override three congressional resolutions of disapproval in July. (See ACT, September 2019.) His administration has yet to notify Congress of any new sales via the foreign military sales program to either country since then.
A number of European countries have stopped arms deals with Saudi Arabia out of concern over the nation’s use of weapons in Yemen, where five years of war have exacerbated a humanitarian crisis. In March, Belgium took new steps to suspend export licenses, and Germany renewed preexisting holds....
We are the threat to world peace, the major contributor to Middle East instability, and much of the reason/excuse for Pentagon "defense" spending. We suck.
The official Twitter account for the US Army's Fort Bragg posted some thirsty tweets at an OnlyFans sex worker in October.
Now that sex worker has become one of OnlyFans's top performers.
Prior to the tweets, she says she earned around $7,000 a month. Now, she tells Insider that she's on track to earn $35,000 a month.
... As the minutes passed by, hundreds of Twitter users began noticing the sexually-charged tweets and replying back with jokes. The installation responded roughly an hour later by claiming its account was compromised by a malicious entity.
"As many of you may know, there were a string of explicit Tweets from our account this afternoon," a representative for the North Carolina base said in a statement. "This was not the work of our admins. Our account was hacked. We apologize to our followers."
The next morning, the XVIII Airborne Corps apologized for its earlier statement and identified an "administrator" as the source of the tweets. "Appropriate action" was underway, according to the unit.
:laughing-rofl:
Fort Bragg's official Twitter account was taken down the same day and remains offline as of Nov. 17.
Opps.
... Quinn supported herself by modeling, but when the coronavirus pandemic hit she no longer felt comfortable going to photoshoots. She spent a couple of months deciding whether to start an OnlyFans, which she describes as a "paid Instagram."
The sex work platform allows "fans" to tip content creators or subscribe to their videos and photos on a monthly basis. After learning how to market herself and investing in camera equipment, Quinn began producing adult content on OnlyFans in May.
Pay-per-view adult subscription sites like OnlyFans have grown in popularity, particularly during the pandemic. According to an Insider report in June, an average of 200,000 users signed up every day between March and April.
Monthly fees, which are determined by the content creators, range anywhere from $3.99 to $50.00 a month. Quinn charges $8.99 for her fans....
$35,000 a month for pandemic safe, non-contact sex work from home. Wow.
Guy with "at least one outstanding warrant for his arrest" and “an extensive arrest record" but no badge or credentials wanders around Andrews Air Force Base for several hours. He does not access Air Force One, but did enter and exit "a C-40, a transport jet primarily used by members of the Cabinet, Congress and military combatant commanders." He was only eventually noticed and caught because he was wearing “a bright red or pink cap that partially covered his ears and had distinctive balls on top that looked a little like mouse ears.” https://www.yahoo.com/news/air-force-on ... 42963.html
China, are you paying attention? The Department of Defense annual budget, which is not even close to the entire military budget, is approximately $721.5 billion.
