1994 and I was in this end zone on about the 3rd row. We were down by at least 20 and LSU had been running at will against us the whole game.
So of course they switched to passing in the 4th quarter.
A short fun watch.

Kiffin has talent, but wasn't he the guy that left several programs hanging. And he hasn't even been a Ol' Miss all that long, has he? Auburn might do well to recruit some stability as well a talent, it seems to me.

I'm becoming less and less a Kiffin fan, but I think he's improved since the tenn and usc jobs. I like his excitement, but Freeze is probably a better choice.Vrede too wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 8:25 pmThe article discussed his history:

I'm beginning to think they should hire Cadillac for 1 year just for his excitement. Maybe win a co-head coach help him do more than fire up kids and recruit.
1 year at cheap can't be worse than throwing millions at chizek and harsin (and the great high school coach gus).
It would also allow time for a through search.

I'm now convinced that Lane is an idiot. 4th and fairly long inside the opponent's 15, up by 1 with 7 minutes left and he goes for a 1st down rater than the east field goal to go up by 4.
Stupid is as Stuoid does

Re: College football
I went to learn more details and found that the only Ole Miss Turnover on Downs came with Ole Miss up by 2, 16-14, and "3rd (quarter) 6:16 - MISS 4th & 2, at MSST 6", incomplete pass. Could be that forgoing the chip shot FG ultimately cost Ole Miss the 22-24 game, but it wasn't quite the "idiot ... Stupid" choice that you describe.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 1:10 amI'm now convinced that Lane is an idiot. 4th and fairly long inside the opponent's 15, up by 1 with 7 minutes left and he goes for a 1st down rater than the east field goal to go up by 4.

The chant is annoying, but I don't care if they do it all afternoon as long as they let us see Osceola throw down that flaming spear. One of, if not the best team representatives in all of sports. Compare, for example to the lame duck at Miami (yeah, I know it's an Ibis but still) or the elephant at Alabama. Bucky Badger? Biff Wolverine? Oski the Golden Bear? Puh-leeze. At least Colorado has a real buffalo, and it's pretty cool when Oklahoma's sooner wagon takes a lap.

Re: College football
I think the sooner wagon and a guy dressed up like a "indian" are pretty lame, real Tigers (past lsu), Buffalo and longhorn steers could cause problems, but then our rescued eagles could too. The eagle taking a lap just above the crowd is something to see.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 11:11 amThe chant is annoying, but I don't care if they do it all afternoon as long as they let us see Osceola throw down that flaming spear. Comparing the eagle's lap to a wagon: I'm going with the eagle.

Oh yeah - the eagle is great. You may have mentioned it in the past, but I didn't know they did that.
I don't mind domesticated and trained animals (horses, dogs, maybe Colorado's buffalo) being given jobs as part of the entertainment, but I'm not fond of using wild animals like tigers or bears. If you've ever seen the degree of interpersonal relationship can can exist between an eagle or other raptor and its human partner, you know that eagle isn't being harmed by being entertainment. There was a documentary a few years ago about the Mongolians and their golden eagles. This isn't it, but it's the same people:

BTW, according to FSU information, the costume is authentic, with some parts and some versions handmade by Seminole tribe members and is similar to what original Osceloa (not actually a chief, however) would have worn.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 11:46 am

Sketchy topics for Thanksgiving "family" gatherings:
Religion
Politics
Money
Uncle Chester
Mascots
Got it.

Should be in Cinema thread, I suppose, but it's on point here. Did you ever see the film "Best Friends" with Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083641/
Makes the point very clearly that the issue at family gatherings isn't really the conversation topics but the various relationship and role issues many just being dragged up from childhood. Great film - funny and entertaining, but so instructive you'll want to take notes.

Libs win 38-27. Closer than the score indicates. Texas only pulled away after an INT and a drive with 4 minutes left.

Auburn's eagles are rescues, or non-releasables due to human association, or physical problems and our Raptor Center at the Vet School is as good as it gets for its primary purpose of rehab.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 12:22 pmOh yeah - the eagle is great.
