President* Trump

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I don't remember where it is, but not long ago I posted my general disdain for the new Space Force and cited one reason for that disdain as it being "redundant." Here is validation of my criticism. Space Farce revealed.

I don't think they will ever name an aircraft carrier for trump. Or even a fucking tug boat. If they did, it would sink. They know this.

If he's reelected he will name things for himself, whether or not tradition or even law precludes that.

I'd be okay with a garbage scow.

Impeached POSPOTUS has also confessed, along with Rudy and Mulvaney, to campaign law felonies and to treason.

@BarackObama

Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day.

Kobe Bryant, despite being one of the truly great basketball players of all time, was just getting started in life. He loved his family so much, and had such strong passion for the future. The loss of his beautiful daughter, Gianna, makes this moment even more devastating....

A #POTUS whose name alone creates division and anger. Whose words inspire dissension and hatred can't possibly "Make America Great Again"

According to an article in Forbes listing the top twenty "reputable" countries in the world (on which Sweden is #1),

"And then there’s the United States. The reputation of the U.S. has been in steep decline since 2016, dropping two spots to No. 36 on this year’s list, below even the Philippines, which ranked a surprising No. 35 in spite of President Rodrigo Duterte’s murderous regime.

The US has the most technologically powerful economy in the world, with a per capita GDP of $59,500. US firms are at or near the forefront in technological advances, especially in computers, pharmaceuticals, and medical, aerospace, and military equipment; however, their advantage has narrowed since the end of World War II. Based on a comparison of GDP measured at purchasing power parity conversion rates, the US economy in 2014, having stood as the largest in the world for more than a century, slipped into second place behind China, which has more than tripled the US growth rate for each year of the past four decades."

Fwiw, that can be misleading without discussion of wealth gaps and what percentage of a nation's population is above and below its average and by how far. There will be some developing nations where the gap is worse, but I suspect that America is among the most abysmal among developed nations.

Well yeah, but "per capita" isn't about wealth gap. It's just the total amount generated by the economy divided by the total population. I'd be interested in seeing a wealth gap comparison, however, and would also guess US wouldn't fare well.

As with many other bits of research I've read, I'm reminded that while statistics may not lie, that statisticians definitely do.

Searching "wealth gap by nation" turns up a bunch of articles using different methodologies. It can be a bit dense to wade through, but they seem to verify our guesses. Here's one passage, not necessarily the best or most current, but representative and useful for its on-point brevity:
Which Country Has the Widest Wealth Gap? Hint: It's Not the U.S.

If you think inequality in the U.S. is bad, consider Russia. According to a new ranking, Russia is the most unequal country in the world, with the highest share of national wealth held by those in its top 10 percent. The ranking, part of the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report, found that Russia has 84.8 percent of its wealth held by its top 10 percent.

That's far above any other country in the world when it comes to wealth inequality. Not even second-place Turkey (with 77.7 percent) and third-place Hong Kong (77.5 percent) come close. The U.S. ranked in seventh place, with 74.6 percent of its wealth held by the top 10 percent, just behind Thailand, with 75 percent. The most equal countries, in terms of wealth distribution, were Belgium (with 47.2 percent) followed by Japan (48.5 percent) and Australia (51.1 percent).
