Re: The Religion Thread
If a country is really going to have any freedom of religion and citizens of the country really do have the right to the religion and religious practices (with boundaries) they want, then the country is going to have to protect the less popular. Despite their whining, Christianity has been and remains the majority religion in the US, and has a history of attempts to impose its beliefs on the greater population. Muslims are currently under widespread discriminatory attacks (aren't they, Donald), and if the country actually does believe in freedom of religion, deserve some "coddling."
As to whether a Muslim refusing to do her government job would have been jailed, I have no doubt she would, in the same circumstances. But Davis wasn't jailed because of her religion or its beliefs, she was jailed for repeatedly refusing to comply with a direct order from the Court. It would be pretty easy to find examples of that happening to people of all sorts of different religions.

AND THEN he followed up by claiming that that wasn't what he meant either.
That's some Palin/Santorum/Trump-level "how dare they lie about what I said by quoting my words verbatim" wingnut dishonesty right there.

Not a minister, much better! Tony Perkins is president of the Family Research Council.
I didn't know that he's gay, but I'm not surprised.

The Bible doesn't say that God's followers won't suffer any ills.
From what I can understand, that "whole armor of God" thingy isn't worldly proof.
Where, in the Wikipedia article does it say Perkins is homosexual?

Now JTA, how is our precious little Seth Milner ever going to learn critical thinking skills if you keep helping him out when he's floundering? You've got to cut the frilly purple apron strings sooner or later.

Wait...
Growing up my bedroom in our basement flooded several times. Was that God trying to tell me I'm gay?

If there were no gays we would have no fertile flood basins for agriculture. Human civilization would never have flourished without our gay brothers and sisters in Mesopotamia gettin' it on.

Re: The Religion Thread
I find the theory that God punishes "the gays" by flooding or hurricaning or tornadoing entire regions to be pretty ridiculous even for people who are predisposed to believe Biblical stories. Let's start that if one believes the Noah/Ark story in its entirety, that there's that pesky part at the end where God creates a rainbow to promise not to destroy the earth with flood again. Sure, one could argue that flooding out Louisiana isn't technically "the earth" but still. Past that, it seems a bit excessive for the entity who created the universe to use such a crude hammer in getting rid of less than 10% of the population as to affect everybody else. And even if we consider "everybody else" to be complicit in allowing the gays to live with them, we've still got to explain why the anti-gays got hit, too. And then if we get all those issues addressed, we have to explain why there are more places with gays that have not been flooded than have been. If God is really punishing the gays and those who tolerate them, the S/He's majorly inefficient, a perhaps unlikely trait for the entity who created the universe.
