Gun Legislation

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The Lt. Governor of Texas (I think) tried to play the "violent video game" angle like it's the year 2000.

A rebuttal I've seen elsewhere: if video games were to blame, South Korea would be worse than the US given the popularity of video games. Also, video games are popular in Europe, too.

Nah man, it's the vidya games. And probably that heavy metal rock n roll music, too. You know, that stuff that sounds like a bunch of toilets a flushin'. And them kids shootin' up with the marijuanas nowadays high on the devil's lettuce listening to that hippity hop music on their walk-men with their pants hangin' half way down their behinds.

Throw some bibles at 'em, hit 'em with the yard stick when they get to acting up in school room, and make them say their prayers right after pledge of allegiance every morning.

Amen. Problem solved.
It's also:

Trump blames internet, video games and mental illness — not guns — for mass shootings

Then, all mass shooters are Dems.

Amen. Problem identified.

These people think that if only we'd go back to some 1950's ideal everything would be alright. Only the ideal they're aiming for never existed in the first place other than in fictionalized portrayals on TV and other media. And that ideal likely had its own dark underbelly which they conveniently ignore.

People have ways had this idea of a "golden age" throughout history. They've always bitched and whined about kids falling into decadent behaviours and no longer behaving like they did in the "good old days".

nothing to do with the discussion, but then, that's why you said it.

and also, weren't you the guy who was too stupid to see the similarities between Prohibition and the Ronnie's never-ending drug war?

she almost started out right - breakdown of the American Family. she just left out the part about financially safe and secure 1950 and 60s single income households being a much better place to raise kids than empty homes where both parents struggle with 2 and 3 and even 4 jobs that don't pay the bills.

republicans did that. many dems helped but the repugs rode it to the bank

FDR said, "True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made."

Shit. Someone already beat us to it and found the cause of all the nation's woes:
I thought that Candice Keller was just some random Facebidiot you found. She's an Ohio Repug State Rep!!!
https://www.yahoo.com/news/ohio-gop-mas ... 16116.html

Image

Ironically, she looks like she could be trans, nttawwt.
... Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones called for Keller’s resignation on Monday.

“Those people aren’t even buried yet and she came out with these comments. ... She should resign because she doesn’t represent our party,” Jones told the Journal News, a local news site.

“She doesn’t represent me, she doesn’t represent our community, she doesn’t represent the state or the country,” he added....

Ohio Attorney General David Yost, a Republican, responded to Keller’s remarks on Twitter, writing: “No, m’am. The blame belongs to the evil man who killed those people.”

Jane Timken, chairwoman for the Ohio Republican Party, described Keller’s remarks to the Journal News as “shocking and utterly unjustifiable.” ...
It’s good that a few GOP officials are taking her to task, but she IS representing 2019 Repugs, evangelicals and Trumpettes pretty accurately.

The Dayton shooter was a lefty and the reichwing is all over it desperately trying to deflect from El Paso and Gilroy, CA.

Connor Betts: Twitter Posts on Being a Leftist, Guns

However, there's no indication so far that the attack was motivated by lefty politics, unlike El Paso's xenophobic hatred or the Gilroy, CA Garlic Festival shooting. It's not like Betts' targeted and killed sister was a Trumpette....
In the digital age the timespan from hateful fringe to wingnut mainstream is shrinking almost to the point of not being there at all:

Kellyanne Conway is 'mad' media downplays Dayton shooter's liberal views, although no link is seen to massacre

What will prevent white nationalist attacks?

Aside from the gun control that we know reduces murder rates in states on average and comparable nations, SEND THEM BACK!

The epidemic of willful ignorance hasn't abated but seems to have experienced a sort of false vigor, but that's the nature of willful ignorance.

You acquire your marijuana legally the same as billy?

I have a card too, only it specifies that I am allowed legally to open carry a gun.

How about that, we’re all legal.

Nah, I must rely on the black market, and in fact, I hold the position of Admiral of the Fleet in the war on drugs.
Congratulations on your authorization to open carry a gun. I suggest you walk backwards while carrying so nobody can sneak up on you. And keep in mind that the guy approaching you on the sidewalk may have his gun concealed and will certainly be quicker on the draw than you should he decide to shoot your ass (he can see your gun but you can't see his). Also, that same guy, or any other guy, that pulls out a bag of pot does not present a threat to you or your way of life. But I recommend anyone that is intimidated, spooked, or just scared to death, obtain a permit to carry a gun at all times. I am in consultation at present with a virtually unknown plastic surgeon and am suggesting to him that he develop a procedure that will result in a loose flap of skin on the upper thigh or just under the right or left arm (or both arms if you're particularly scared) that will serve as a sort of biological holster able to accomodate short barrel handguns up to 50 caliber. A bonus of this procedure is that, if you're fat enough, your gun in its dermatological bionic holster will not be detectable with standard metal detectors. However, the low power x rays at airports will reveal the presence of the weapon so if you are so scared that you have to carry a gun all the time and find you have to fly somewhere you'll just have to grit your teeth and fly unarmed. In any case, remember: fear is power and freedom in its pure form.
