The homophobic thread :>

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It's not difficult to debate with anyone if you can muster facts and/or logic, and being "condescending" towards someone that can't is nothing to brag about. It's just how adult debate works. Seth Milner is being a crybaby, as usual.

Dear Abby:
About four months ago, the house across the street was sold to a "father and son" — or so we thought. We later learned it was an older man about 50 and a young fellow about 24. This was a respectable neighborhood before this "odd couple" moved in. They have all sorts of strange-looking company; Men who look like women, women who look like men, blacks, whites, Indians. Yesterday I even saw two nuns go in there!... Abby, these weirdos are wrecking our property values! How can we improve the quality of this once-respectable neighborhood? —Up In Arms

Dear UP:
You could move.

That reminds me, I took a stroll over to CPF, and they throw out so many choice names they had to make a dictionary to define their made up words because apparently no one could understand them.

About what? Are you smoking mushroom again?

I usually try to stay out of these pissing contests, but what is pathetic is when people who profess a true Godly, Christian belief speaks up or quote scripture that condemns what their Bible has labeled unclean, they are labeled bigots, homophobics, and cherry pickers; never mind the fact that the name callers themselves are displaying their own hateful bigotry and phobias. Own it.

I am beginning to see though, the name callers don't like being slapped with truth, and their name calling is to soothe their hurting little feelings. Bless your hearts.

So, Seth, could you explain why "profess[ing] a true Godly, Christian belief speaks up or quote scripture that condemns what their Bible has labeled unclean" and being "bigots, homophobics, and cherry pickers" is mutually exclusive? Seems possible to me (in fact likely, historically speaking) that a lot of these "true Godly" beliefs create bigotry, and disdain for those different from themselves. Take the term "Christian" out of your comment and substitute any other religion or belief of your choice and see if it still works for you.

Then, part 2 of your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to explain why anyone's "belief" no matter the source, should be given any credence or special standing by the rest of society without substantiating evidence.

"Then, part 2 of your assignment, if you choose to accept it" . . . will this post self-destruct before I finish my reply?

As I said, I try to stay out of religion vs. homosexuality arguments; I merely expressed an opinion that smacks of bigotry vs. bigotry.

One bigot accuses another of bigotry while failing to see "the beam in his own eye".

BTW, calling both sides of an issue the same isn't "staying out" of the discussion.

The point being that you're a bigot misusing religion to justify your bigotry.
Seth Milner wrote:but what is pathetic is when people who profess a true Godly, Christian belief speaks up or quote scripture
No-one cares that he "speaks up or quotes scripture." He's free to do so. But when he uses a MEGAPHONE, he's forcing others to listen.

And that's what bigots like you refuse to acknowledge: No-one is criticizing or opposing you for your beliefs. It's when you force your religious beliefs on others - through megaphones or violence or civil rights denying laws - that criticism and opposition becomes necessary. You also refuse to acknowledge is that it's not Christianity being criticized or opposed. It's your PERSONAL beliefs, which you've merely misuse religion to justify with a single cherry-picked quote.

(Not that you even know the quote; you've just heard that it's there. You're an EULA Christian. A Christian for whom the Bible is like a software license. Not to be read or understood. Just assume that you know what it means, scroll down to the bottom, and click "I Agree.")
Seth Milner wrote:quote scripture that condemns what their Bible has labeled unclean, they are labeled bigots, homophobics, and cherry pickers;
Because they ARE exactly that. Women speaking in church are equally forbidden according to the Bible, and yet bigots like you have no problem with that. That *IS* cherry picking whether you like it or not.

Nor do you and they speak for Christianity. There are major branches of Christianity that support and perform same-sex marriage. They're no less Christian; they've simply chosen differently.

Well, you expressed your viewpoint, which isn't exactly the same as "making a point" but you can still address the question if you choose to do so. It was, ...explain why anyone's "belief" no matter the source, should be given any credence or special standing by the rest of society without substantiating evidence.

"God said homos are 'unclean', etc." is just a very short step from "God told me to smite the faggot" and "the Devil made me do it." Why do we give credence to the first statement, but not the other two?
