From Progress NC Action:
UNC’s Roy Williams slams HB2; time is running out for lawmakers to act
UNC basketball coach Roy Williams took a swing at HB2 on Sunday (Wow!) after a Tar Heels game at the Greensboro Coliseum, where the ACC and NCAA tournaments were often played before HB2 forced the tournaments to move elsewhere. “I just think it’s ridiculous what [HB2] is doing to our state and the reputation of our state,” said Williams, joining Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and NC State coach Mark Gottfried in speaking out against the unconstitutional and discriminatory law.
But despite the NCAA and ACC deadlines facing North Carolina, Sen. Phil Berger has no intention of moving quickly to repeal HB2 -- meaning the state will likely be left out when the NCAA and ACC announce their five-year tournament schedules this spring.
HB2 has already cost North Carolina over half a billion dollars in economic activity, and missing the NCAA and ACC deadlines thanks to HB2 will cost the state even more.
North Carolina’s NCAA bids alone represent over $250 million in economic activity, so it is critical that lawmakers follow through on their promise to fully repeal HB2 before the NCAA and ACC announce their five-year tournament schedules.
Republican lawmakers like Phil Berger and Tim Moore claim their top priority is job creation, but they are actively harming our state’s economy by refusing to repeal HB2.
Berger’s claim that he “doesn’t have the votes” for a full repeal of HB2 is patently false, because he is counting only Republican votes. Democrats have already filed a bill to fully repeal HB2, but Berger refuses to allow a vote on it.
An NCAA boycott of North Carolina would hurt the entire state, not just cities with big basketball arenas. From Asheville to Wilmington, North Carolina cities and towns have applications in to host 133 NCAA tournament and championship events. If HB2 is not repealed, North Carolina will lose out on all of the economic activity linked to those events.
Bottom Line: If North Carolina loses five years of NCAA and ACC tournaments because of HB2, the blame lies squarely with Senator Phil Berger and NC House Speaker Tim Moore. Their refusal to support a full repeal of HB2 proves they couldn’t care less about the consequences to North Carolina’s economy.

Majority Of Religious Americans Agree: Religious Beliefs Are Not An Excuse To Discriminate (against LGBTQ individuals and couples)
Note: Makes no difference that I post things like this. Won't be long before perpetual victim Mr.B again hilariously whines and lies in claiming that I "hate" all Christians and other believers. He just doesn't have the brains or balls to admit that his pitiful bigotry is now the rapidly shrinking minority view even among the religious.

Re: The homophobic thread :>
Not that it's any surprise, but this proves that HB2 is all about idiotic and hateful transphobia and not about protecting women and girls. In fact, Cooper's proposal to stiffen penalties for crimes committed in bathrooms and locker rooms would be far more likely to impact the bigots that assault transgenders, a tragically common occurrence. The NC GOP can't have that.Phil Berger to Roy Cooper on HB2: Hush.
Goodbye, NCAA. Goodbye, ACC. Goodbye from Phil Berger, who keeps whispering, “Hush.”
Sen. Berger and other Republican leaders on Tuesday made clear that they have zero intention of repealing HB2, “clean” or otherwise. Minutes after Gov. Roy Cooper offered a compromise deal, Berger shot it down and other Republicans followed.
That’s yet another nail in the repeal effort’s coffin, and almost guarantees that the NCAA and the ACC will remove North Carolina from consideration for all events through at least 2022. That will mean the state that is the heart of the Atlantic Coast Conference will go six years without a championship event, forgoing millions of dollars in tax revenue and hundreds of millions in economic impact.
Berger had, laughably, been blaming Cooper for HB2’s continued existence and challenged him to propose a workable compromise. He did so Tuesday, outing legislative leaders for who they are: people who would rather keep this political game going than do what’s best for the state, its reputation and its economy.
HB2 backers have said the law was needed to protect women and girls from sexual predators in bathrooms. That’s an absurd argument, both because a transgender person has never sexually assaulted anyone in an N.C. bathroom (or anywhere else) and because HB2 has no enforcement mechanism.
So Cooper proposed some teeth: Stiffen penalties for crimes committed in bathrooms and locker rooms. Cooper would also require a 30-day notice before a local government takes up any anti-discrimination ordinance. That addresses Republican legislators’ fear that cities will rush to pass ordinances the moment HB2 is repealed.
It’s a compromise that would remove the HB2 stain from our state while helping backers protect what they claim to hold most dear. It would also put the state back in contention for NCAA and ACC events.
But Berger said “it is difficult to take seriously (Cooper’s) pledge on ‘strengthening penalties’,” even though the legislature would be the one to control the new law’s wording. And Lt. Gov. Dan Forest, the state’s most inflammatory public official on this issue, falsely claimed that Cooper’s proposal would allow straight men to ogle girls while they shower. That is already against the law and would continue to be....
A majority of North Carolinians want HB2 repealed. Polls show that, and Pat McCrory’s being the only incumbent governor of either party to lose in November suggests that. Phil Berger and other Republicans in Raleigh don’t care. They reneged on their end of a repeal deal in December, they’ve prevented a straight up-or-down vote and they are rejecting reasonable compromises minutes after they’re proposed.
They need to act like responsible adults. But that’s looking as far-fetched as the cow jumping over the moon.

Mike Huckabee's attempt to "protect the sanctity of traditional bigotry" was the last gasp of Republican homophobia. A majority of Americans support same-sex marriage. Republicans officials like George and Barbara Bush and Dick Cheney support it. The Republican Party will soon be the party that Defends Same-Sex Marriage And Always Has.
But they still want to rally the inbreds, so trans-phobia is the replacement.

Young woman: "Where is that written, though?"
Shapiro: "In the name, “Boy Scouts.”

I can remember when "fireman" meant "man" and now we have "firefighters." I don't personally have a problem with the Boy Scouts being for boys, as long as they take all boys in, but to think that a large organization might become more inclusive over time is not unreasonable, either. A lot have, including such former bastions of youthful masculinity as Little League and even (gasp) high school football!

Some people never learn, no surprise that a lot of them are in Texas government.
For it to be "thin ice", dummy, Texas has to have some leverage. It doesn't.Governor of Texas rips NFL over Super Bowl threats concerning 'bathroom bill'
... Senate Bill 6, which would make it illegal for transgender people from using bathrooms they feel match their gender identities, has been filed by Texas legislators. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told the Associated Press that if a “proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law there,” it would be a factor in awarding future events. Simply put: If the bill becomes law, that will be included in the discussion of whether Houston or Dallas gets a Super Bowl in the future.
“The NFL is walking on thin ice right here,” Abbott told conservative radio host Glenn Beck, according to the Texas Tribune. “The NFL needs to concentrate on playing football and get the heck out of politics.”
Abbott had already made a nonsensical comparison to the NFL’s “bathroom bill” comments and Tom Brady’s deflate-gate case, but his comments to Beck were a lot more forceful.
“For some low-level NFL adviser to come out and say that they are going to micromanage and try to dictate to the state of Texas what types of policies we’re going to pass in our state, that’s unacceptable,” Abbott told Beck. “We don’t care what the NFL thinks and certainly what their political policies are because they are not a political arm of the state of Texas or the United States of America. They need to learn their place in the United States, which is to govern football, not politics.”
Abbott’s comments are tough, but ultimately meaningless. The NFL has a right to take its business anywhere, and it has no obligation to give Texas any more Super Bowls. If Texas thinks its “bathroom bill” and talking tough to the NFL is more important than hosting another Super Bowl, then that’s a choice the state will make....

Hmmm...that could very well be a 'Shellie' I met at a Sears service school in Atlanta in 1988. She was from a little town near Austin, and was a very knowledgeable technician. "The case, State of Washington v. Arlene’s Flowers, began in 2013, when two men, Robert Ingersoll and Curt Freed, sought to purchase flowers for their then-upcoming wedding. The men approached Arlene's Flowers and Gifts in Richland, their favorite flower shop where they’d gone for years, but shop owner Barronelle Stutzman refused to sell to them, contending that doing so would violate her religious beliefs."
If I went into a place of business and was told my business wasn't wanted; I would have the good sense to shop elsewhere.
So much for good sense.
That was easy.
I do however, agree with the court's decision. You can't have a set of rules for one class of people, and a different set for other people if you're in a business that caters to all people.
