If you don't have a body or an ass like that young lady, I don't care if you were built like Mr. America; I'm not giving you a second look!

Now see, that's the kind of response that gets you accused of being or wannabeing Mr.B. Nobody is interested in whether you give a second look. But here - have another chance at the thread. Do you work out? How do you avoid being obese? What are your favorite physical/fitness activities?

Re: Fitness Thread
Aw come on! Anytime I should use a word or phrase he's used, or say I don't care to look at a man's body, I'm "wannabeing Mr.B"? You're the second one to suggest that I'm someone else. I'm me, dammit! I'm saying that woman has a hot body which I had much rather ogle than that of a man even if he's (or you) is built like Mr. America! The whole gist of my posts was supposed to be a humorous jab at the fitness craze. I've been to the gym occasionally (haven't been since moving here), and I enjoy the sights more than the workouts. I am 61 years old, naturally thin, not skinny, no gut, so I don't have to worry about obesity. My remark wasn't directed at you personally, nor to downplay your fitness regimen; don't be so sensitive or thin-skinned.O Really wrote:Now see, that's the kind of response that gets you accused of being or wannabeing Mr.B. Re: Fitness Thread
I'm probably neither as sensitive or thin-skinned as you think. But I do like to keep at least reasonably close to the topic. If it's a beer thread, let's talk about beer. If it's a fitness thread, let's talk about fitness. There are plenty of other threads to share the fun of ogling the girls or trashing each other's beliefs or degree of tolerance (or lack thereof) of those who are different from us. I'm happy to talk about girls with nice racks in impossible-for-me asanas, but in this thread, I'd like to talk about fitness. But it's at least partially a free country and a non-banning forum, so feel free to digress.Seth Milner wrote:... don't be so sensitive or thin-skinned.

Sorry - I missed the part where you told us "The whole gist of my posts was supposed to be a humorous jab at the fitness craze."
Certainly in a country where close to 40% of the population is at or approaching obesity, the "fitness craze" needs humorous jabs. Too bad the "fitness craze" misses so many people. Maybe gyms should give away pizza.
Oh wait - Planet Fitness does have pizza nights.

Not in my personal experience. Sure, for some, but not by any means a majority. I see a wide variety of people in age, fitness levels, and goals. And not everybody is necessarily working all that hard. But most are trying.Seth Milner wrote:The majority of visits to a gym is to see and be seen.O Really wrote:Sorry - I missed the part where you told us "The whole gist of my posts was supposed to be a humorous jab at the fitness craze."

Re: Fitness Thread
OK, so here's a short history of my gym experience over several years: I've been a private club member, a YMCA member, a JCA member, a small local, two national chains, and another fairly large local. Here's what I've seen: relatively small proportion of the traditional troglodyte body-builder; lots of older people in Silver Sneakers programs; lots of middle age people trying to get rid of flabbiness; a relatively few high school kids; a good number of collegy-age kids; lots of people doing some type of physical therapy; some hard-body gym rats working on strength; at least two American Ninja Warrior potential contestants; a lot of older people who really aren't working too hard, but are wanting to stay active; a lot of former jocks trying to get remotely close to "glory days," but I don't recall many I've seen who were there simply to "see and be seen.'

That's funny, fershure. Especially when he gives it the "yeah, that's what I intended to do" act with the push ups.

So he lifts light 20lb dumbells a lot of times? So he does (with truly awful form) "400 crunches on the ball"? So he shrugs 30 pounds 300 times? Puh-leeze.
I'm not a famous football coach and Heisman winner, but I fart in his general direction at his workout. I don't shrug 30 pounds 300 times - I shrug 300 pounds 30 times. Is there a difference? I don't do 400 crunches on a ball - I do 50 hanging leg lifts. I don't do 15 pound presses, I do sets of 70 pound kettle bell swings. I bench 230, squat 275, and farmer walk 300 - at a weight of 180. Not to say he's not in shape, but why don't I get a feature on Yahoo?
I know, I don't get a feature on Yahoo because I'm not a famous coach or other celebrity. I don't really care. But I thought it would be fun to have a fitness thread. What do you do to stave away the obesity epidemic? How do you exercise - what's fun, and what's misery?

I don't see the point - of doing 2,000 leg lifts or of Pat Robberson.billy.pilgrim wrote: Bet ya can't do 2,000 leg lifts like Pat Robberson.
Actually, his claim was to have leg-pressed 2,000 pounds, which is total bullshit like most everything else he says. As reference, the record for really big really top shape football linemen at FSU is about 675.

Correct about the leg press, but all you have to do is buy his jesus milkshakes and you can do it tooO Really wrote:I don't see the point - of doing 2,000 leg lifts or of Pat Robberson.billy.pilgrim wrote: Bet ya can't do 2,000 leg lifts like Pat Robberson.

I could be wrong but I think it's a hoax. I wouldn't doubt it. For starters, why was a camera running then anyway? I think a lot of "candid" shots have to be staged.Vrede too wrote:I could be wrong but I think it's a hoax. No thanks. I don't do chemicals. But I know a lot of strong guys who aren't 70-something and would be happy with a 1K leg press. Not to mention that the leg press is somewhat of a wussy exercise anyway. You have to consider too that the camera holder was videoing the fine hind-end of that redhead when the stooge took his dive! The camera did start on the guy at the moment his head was turning. I don't think it was staged; that's one of those "right-moment" videos!O Really wrote:I wouldn't doubt it. For starters, why was a camera running then anyway? That's possible, although I would have defined her more of a fat-ass than a fine hind-end. Everybody to their own, I guess. Some people even think Kim Kardashian is well-shaped.Seth Milner wrote:You have to consider too that the camera holder was videoing the fine hind-end of that redhead when the stooge took his dive!
