Tell Your State Legislators
Take immediate action to protect the public health and mitigate economic harm for workers and businesses.
Also at the link is an interactive map showing "Estimated jobs lost due to coronavirus by summer 2020, by state".
Tourism dependent NV and HI are in terrible shape.
It's very bad in SC and FL.
It's bad in NC, TN, AL and CA.

Any senator who used insider knowledge to make a profit off the coronavirus crisis has no right to hold office. Sen. Richard Burr and other senators who sold off stocks -- while publicly downplaying the threat of COVID-19 -- must be investigated and held accountable.

$3 Billion 'Bailout' for Oil Producers Dropped From Economic Stimulus Package

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/busine ... 47471.html
Otoh:

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/busine ... 47471.html

Otoh:
... The less good: The bill includes a $500 billion business and government lending fund at the discretion of Trump’s Treasury Department.
On its face, it’s not inherently bad that the government is going to be supporting some businesses (especially small ones) that are being hard hit by this crisis – especially since Democrats in the House and Senate worked hard to include checks and balances.
But here’s the kicker: There’s a big risk it could become a corporate slush fund, ripe with opportunity for corruption. In fact, Trump is already attempting to circumvent the oversight built into this package. I know, I know, we’re not surprised either.
What does this mean for our work moving forward?
We’ve achieved important victories to ensure polluting industries don’t take advantage of the current situation. However, we must remain vigilant to ensure that these wins stick.
When it comes to Big Oil and the rest of the fossil fuel industry, that means working with our allies to make sure that the slush fund isn’t handed over to fossil fuel companies with little or no oversight.
And as for Carnival and other major cruise companies, it appears they aren’t even eligible for government loans and guarantees. Turns out incorporating your company and registering vessels in other countries to avoid U.S. labor laws and taxes can backfire on you when you want the U.S. government to bail you out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

... Since the looming climate emergency isn’t going anywhere, we have to do everything in our power to make sure that the next stimulus is a green one.
Congress’s near unanimous decision to unlock $2 trillion in just a few short days should tell us that when we face an emergency and act on it, we can get things done. And we have a huge opportunity in the coming months to push for an economic recovery that benefits impacted workers and that prioritizes green projects like mass public transit, renewable energy, electric vehicle infrastructure, and even high speed internet....
In solidarity,

Surprising no one:
Donald Trump Has Stake In Hydroxychloroquine Drugmaker: Report
President Donald Trump reportedly owns a stake in a company that produces hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug he has repeatedly touted as a coronavirus treatment even though his experts say there’s no strong evidence it works.
Trump “has a small personal financial interest” in Sanofi, the French drugmaker that makes Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine, The New York Times reported Monday.
In addition, Sanofi’s largest shareholders include a mutual fund company run by major Republican donor Ken Fisher, the paper said. Trump’s three family trusts, as of last year, each had investments in a mutual fund whose largest holding was Sanofi, according to the Times. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross also had ties to the drugmaker, the Times reported.
Trump’s “assertiveness” in promoting the drug contrary to the recommendation of top health experts “has raised questions about his motives,” the Times noted....
A chorus of Trump supporters with no medical expertise have backed the president’s urging of doctors to treat COVID-19 patients with the drug, including his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and Fox News host Sean Hannity.
In the face of warnings from top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci that the drug’s safety and effectiveness are uncertain in treating COVID-19, Trump has continued to laud its supposed benefits.
“What do you have to lose?” he asked at a press briefing this week urging those sick with the virus to take the drug.
Turns out plenty.
“There could be deaths,” American Medical Association President Dr. Patrice Harris said. “This is a new virus, and so we should not be promoting any medication or drug for any disease that has not been proven and approved by the FDA.” ...

One tax provision in the $2.2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package will overwhelmingly benefit wealthy Americans, according to a nonpartisan congressional analysis.
The measure allows taxpayers to use losses from certain businesses to reduce taxes owed on nonbusiness income, such as profits from investments.
Roughly 80% of the benefits of the provision will go to roughly 43,000 taxpayers who earn more than $1 million a year, according to the analysis conducted by the Joint Committee on Taxation, which was first reported by The Washington Post....
"It's a really big deal for a really small group of wealthy people," Matt Gardner, a senior fellow at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, told ABC News.
While business owners in various industries could benefit from the tax provision, real estate investors -- including President Donald Trump -- could be some of the biggest potential beneficiaries, Gardner said....

Well, he is indeed an idiot, but not because of this. He's got three Midwestern states there that he barely won in 2016, and where he's - as of now - not so likely to win this year. If he can do something to increase the dissatisfaction with the (Dem) state government, and appeal to the short-sighted fools in those states, maybe he'll pick up enough to get him a win or so up there. He knows he's not going to lose any hard core cultists, and he knows those who hate him will keep hating. But he's trying to keep those few that made a difference in 2016 - those that might have voted Dem before, but for whatever reason voted for him. But Shirley you don't believe the "protests" are spontaneous or grass-roots, do you?

Stop big banks from taking your stimulus checks!
Petition to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and to members of Congress:
It is totally unacceptable for banks to take stimulus checks and apply them to private debts and garnishments. These checks are designed to help people pay rent and other bills, and keep our economy from collapse. Congress and the Treasury Department must order banks and debt collectors to stop taking people's stimulus checks in this way.

Backlash:Trump pledges financial aid to oil industry
Oil dropped to record low prices because of the coronavirus pandemic.
President Donald Trump promised to bail out U.S. oil companies that have been hard hit by a recent historic dive in crude oil prices — but some in the industry fear that may spark a backlash against the sector long known as a power player in Washington, D.C….
While the March oil futures contract that expired Tuesday on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange staged a rebound to end in positive territory after settling at -$37 a barrel on Monday, the June futures contract shed $9 to trade near $11 a barrel, near the previous record lows from 1986….
But two energy company officials warned that focusing aid on an industry more typically known for its deep pockets and political power could cause voters set off a political backlash during an election year.
“The optics are not politically smart,” said one lobbyist who was not authorized to talk to the media. “A handout to the oil industry will likely not play well among white, college-educated suburban moms stuck inside their homes home-schooling their kids.”
And industry critics said the oil sector was already on its heels before the sharp downturn in prices, and no intervention was warranted.
“It’s not going to change the price of oil, it’s not going to bring back workers,” Tyson Slocum, director of the energy program at watchdog group Public Citizen said. “All you’re doing is providing a bailout for shareholders and owners. The oil sector has the same bad fundamentals. A bailout is not going to fix that.”
Idk if Big Oil subsidies are in the bill PINO signed today or if he's floating ideas for the next bill.No bailout for the oil companies!
Petition to Congress and the Federal Reserve:
We oppose any bailout for the fossil fuel companies. Instead we need to use our fiscal and monetary policy to support a Green New Deal, supporting jobs and the economy in ways that reduce carbon emissions rather than create more of them.
