Anyone have an opinion about the vaccine EO by DeSantis

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

The Vaccine Had to Be Used. He Used It. He Was Fired.

The Texas doctor had six hours. Now that a vial of COVID-19 vaccine had been opened on this late December night, he had to find 10 eligible people for its remaining doses before the precious medicine expired. In six hours.

Scrambling, the doctor made house calls and directed people to his home outside Houston. Some were acquaintances; others, strangers. A bed-bound nonagenarian. A woman in her 80s with dementia. A mother with a child who uses a ventilator.

After midnight, and with just minutes before the vaccine became unusable, the doctor, Hasan Gokal, gave the last dose to his wife, who has a pulmonary disease that leaves her short of breath.

Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times

For his actions, Gokal was fired from his government job and then charged with stealing 10 vaccine doses worth a total of $135 — a shun-worthy misdemeanor that sent his name and mug shot rocketing around the globe....

No, Harris County is Houston. Ethan Couch's murders were in Burleson, a suburb of Fort Worth in Tarrant County.

Fuck Texas.

Ah, yes, it's coming back to me now......Tarrant County should be re named "Errant County" just to be more honest.

Opinion about the vaccine EO by DeSantis

Unread post by Vrede too »

2nd Democrat calls for investigation of DeSantis's vaccine distribution

The sole Democrat elected to statewide office in Florida is calling on the U.S. House of Representatives coronavirus committee to investigate the state’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, for “alleged political favoritism” in coronavirus vaccine distribution.

That call comes in a letter that Florida’s agriculture commissioner, Nikki Fried, will send on Monday morning to Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., who heads the coronavirus committee, and Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, its ranking Republican member....

Fried, one of DeSantis's most unstinting critics, told Yahoo News that "Florida’s vaccine distribution has been chaotic and without a plan. It’s been inequitable, with Black and Hispanic residents left behind. And it’s been corrupt, with the Governor’s donors and political allies getting special access.”

“The message is clear,” she said. “If Ron DeSantis likes you, or if you give his campaign money, you can cut in line ahead of seniors, teachers, and essential workers. It’s despicable and it needs to stop.”

... DeSantis’s primary goal has been to vaccinate the state’s large population of seniors. Beatrice, the governor’s spokeswoman, noted that those efforts have included outreach to veterans of World War II and the Korean War, as well as Holocaust survivors. In prioritizing the elderly, however, DeSantis is going against federal guidelines that call for essential workers to be at or near the front of the vaccination line....
My opinion is that DeSantis sucks.

Not long after he was elected, I surprised myself with a few sorta complimentary words for DeSantis. I'd like those stricken from the record, please. He has no redeeming qualities whatsoever and is a total piece of shit so much so that his awfulness exceeds my ability to describe without assistance from neoplacebo.

:D neoplacebo is our scathing muse, we shall not want.

FTA:
... Although he enjoyed a surprising measure of bipartisan support in his first year in office, DeSantis has more recently faced harsh criticism from Democrats for his handling of the pandemic, which has mirrored that of Trump. The scramble for vaccines has only deepened such frustrations, renewing fears that DeSantis, like Trump, is interested only in catering to his most loyal supporters.

“He is treating Black people like an afterthought,” says state Rep. Omari Hardy, a Democrat who represents West Palm Beach. Hardy told Yahoo News he supported an investigation of DeSantis.

“We all deserve to know whether the governor is rewarding his donors and supporters by granting them privileged access to this life-preserving resource,” Rep. Hardy said, adding that if DeSantis has as much confidence in his vaccine plan as he appears to, he should “welcome” such an inquiry....

I would never vote for him, unless it was DeSantis vs trump and I really hope this vaccines for friends and donors takes him down. So far, I rate him a hair above Jeb and scott.
Jeb was even more crooked than scott and scott overbilled Medicare by 2 billion dollars.

And all 3 plan on running for President

Ok, I'll spin.......the fucker is so awful that for the past three months he's been buying little Cuban girls from a greasy relative operating out of Little Havana in Miami. As of now, he's stashed several of them in the basement of the governor's mansion in Tallahassee where he commits acts of sexual perversion so vile that animals refuse to participate. Ron is so awful that he was refused the position of accordian player at a leper colony. As a child, Ron would squish little kittens in the vise on the work table in his dad's garage when he didn't get his way. His entire life is a monument and testament to the seedy white underbelly and darkest aspects of The American Dream. Awful.

Who else do you know who would donate a million dollars toward the development of a vaccine and then wait her normal eligibility to get it?

I don't know anything about Gates' kids except for Jennifer, who was eligible for a shot as a medical worker. As a medical student I guess she actually does work in a hospital.

Yes, medical students see patients. Plus, many have been specially recruited early into the CV-19 fight. Idk if this is the case with Jenn.

There are lots of hateful conspiracy theories out there about Gates. Are you sure this isn't one of them? I found this:
Bill Gates' daughter jokes about vaccine conspiracy involving her dad
Jennifer Gates, a medical student, notes that "sadly the vaccine did NOT implant my genius father into my brain."

It’s been over a year since the SarsCOV2 variant emerged, and we now have more solutions, including immunizations, to help protect individuals and communities. 🙏
I am beyond privileged to receive my first dose of mRNA to teach my cells to amount a protective immune response to this virus. As a medical student and aspiring physician, I am grateful it will give me protection and safety for my future practice. I’d urge everyone to read more and strongly consider it for yourself and your families when you are provided the option. The more people who get immunized, the safer our communities are for everyone.
Saying thank you doesn’t begin to describe my gratitude for the physicians, scientists, public health experts, pharmacists and so many others who made this achievement in modern medicine possible. Our healthcare workers have been working tirelessly to save as many lives as possible, and this vaccine will only increase their ability to succeed.
PS I’ll still be wearing my mask (or two!) after receiving my second dose- hope that’s self explanatory, and if it’s not lmk if I can provide resources
PPS sadly the vaccine did NOT implant my genius father into my brain - if only mRNA had that power.....! 😜

Jenn
Gates' father, the Microsoft co-founder, has worked to research and promote vaccines worldwide for years through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He has also become the subject of many truly weird and utterly baseless conspiracy theories, including one that falsely claims he's pushing COVID-19 vaccinations in order to inject people with a microchip that will track them....

Jennifer, 24, is the oldest of Bill and Melinda Gates' three children.

Bill Gates received his first shot of the coronavirus vaccine last month, qualifying for it because he turned 65 in October. Like daughter, like father: He also shared a photo of the happy moment and wrote, "I feel great."
I can't find info one way or the other about his other kids getting vaccinated. Do you have a source?

I guess I'm mostly more and more against the pick and choose system for most things.
We picked poor and black kids to send to Vietnam. Cheney/bush picked only enough doses of bird flu medication to cover politicians, law enforcement, hospital workers and the military. Done deal, no one else.
And here we are again picking and choosing.
I have never seen a cop in my county wear a mask - not once, but they are 1st on the List, but not teachers. The cop interacts with other cops and other than food service, many cops don't interact with 10 people per day, but the 54 year old 10th grade teacher (DeSantis has now graciously extended the vaccine to teachers 55 and older) interacts with over a hundred.

More and more, I see the lottery as preferable. Imagine how much better things would be if we had picked our politicians by lottery in 2016.

We've set up too large of a group as "essential". Not only does that say, fuck you, to the non-essentials, the group is so large that it might as well be everybody. And not everybody with a cell phone, or a computer, or the ability to sit at the phone all day, just something simple and efficient that works for everyone.

I think the problem has been, because of insufficient supply, they tried to create too many categories and also left too much flexibility for states and counties. I've got no problem with nursing homes, healthcare workers, old people and medically vulnerable people as categories, but past that it does get too fuzzy to ever administer consistently or fairly. I know everybody wanted to get the vaccine rolled out as quickly as possible, but it seems it would almost have been better to have stockpiled a bunch of vaccines first. I would certainly have moved teachers up if I wanted to open the schools, though. Talk about "clear and present danger."

Florida us mandating in person classrooms and all schools open, but teachers under 55 won't be vaccinated but the school resource officer will and so will the two cops sitting alone in their cars nearby.
